It would drop but that may be after about 5-6 months instead of the usual 3 months. But the market launch price would be cheaper than what MTN is offering.

I wasn't talking about the price actually. I meant I hope WP8 devices will come in budget sizes as well say about 20k - 40k range.

The phone is amazingly very tough........ The car drive over test, Barton smash and the over 60 ft elevation throw was easily handled by the 920

Yes! very tough. The phone reminds me of Nokia 3310. How I wish the Samsung GN2 I just got would be as tough as the lumia but...

Eventually... Yes.
Immediately... I don't think so.
I think currently Nokia is focused on using WP7.5 for cheaper devices but this should change with time.

That will be such a let down; not everyone can afford to pay 80k and above for a phone just to experience it's own brand of OS.

Thats really a monster phone especially after you compare it with the SGS3 and iphone 5 drop tests... You simply cant ask for anything more can you wink

Of course but from the look of things, it seems all flagships are above that.

Just to add that if you pre-order also get a wireless charging plate.
So all-in-all, you get the phone, 6 months data and a wireless charging plate.

^ I'm a little confused, is the wireless charging plate a separate accessory? Does it not come in the box when you buy the 920?

It's a totally separate accessory just like the bluetooth headphone or JBL speaker.
It's just that its a cool feature that Nokia want to make mainstream.

But this thread don try o.
8 pages without getting to frontpage. I can't remember any other thread achieving such.
Re: Nokia Lumia 920...finally A Smartphone From Nokia That Can Compete! by Bawss1(m): 12:11pm On Nov 23, 2012
Oh OK, I assumed that the charging plate was included upon purchase.

Sometimes its a good thing to avoid the front page, that way the thread stays clear of them riffraff trolls who are up to no good.

How much were you expecting the price to be?
This phone is similarly priced with other flagship devices especially if yo take into consideration the 6 month free data. The MTN SGS III with 3 months data was thesame price.

The only problem I've got is its exclusivity. After 3 months when it would be generally available, the price would still be high cos it would just be new to the market then. Almost like the problem with the current lumias.
But if MTN adequately advertise it, then it may be worth it.
I see. It's a nice strategy really because most people in nigeria outside the tech group don't even know of the lumia 800 720 etc.

You have a point here but I'm sick and tired of some folks who see nothing beyond their current device.

Well it's a Nokia phone and Nokia is still quite popular here.

I was checking up the price of a device at slot when I noticed that the price of the previous lumias has dropped significantly just one month after launch. Well it was expected.
For example lumia 800 is now 50k.
I can only imagine if they were released back in May.

This is another reason why the market release of 920 now would have further pushed those down. lumia 900 should be priced lower than 820 while 610 and the upcoming 510 should be below 30k
Re: Nokia Lumia 920...finally A Smartphone From Nokia That Can Compete! by samir101ng(m): 1:38pm On Feb 15, 2013
Isn't the price of this thing never coming down ? angry angry

Reminds of some old Nokia phones that simply refused to come down and ended up being obsolete at their same initial price e.g Nokia 660, N90 grin grin

Nokia Lumia 920 is still N105,000 in Slot and even as high as N113,000 on . The BB Z10 on pre-order is just N98,000 in Slot and N100,000 by carriers.

Thanks for your reply. I've been using BBs for a while now and I'm really bored of the phone. I want to get a new smartphone and I love the WP8 interface.

But I've gone to some Android threads and the way they glorify Android and condemn the WP scares me. They start with the lack of apps and games etc. I'd love you to kindly sell me the WP. Tell me about it in general and the things it can do.

Then to particular phone to get, I love the specs of the Lumia 620 you put here sadly there's no Gorilla glass and I've heard about the release of Lumia 520 soon which has a 4" scratch resistant screen which is a good catch but it lacks LED and NFC. The Huawei 4Afrika(Ascend W1) seem to pack every feature and would be cheaper, but I don't think Huawei build can come near the Nokia.

I've been saving a while for this phone, so I'd like it to be one is one i.e the best choice of the 3 which I could use for say a year or 2 without it being dated.

Thanks a lot, anticipating a kind reply.

One thing you should know is that most Android users on this site are ignorant fanboys. Most of them lack a basic understanding of what they claim to know. You shouldn't let their empty rantings fool you.

As regards WP8, its a unique, nice and smooth OS. Yes it's lacking in some areas, but it also has some nice positives.
Android is more featured but WP8 is slicker (especially on mid-low end phones). Don't get it wrong, WP8 fully covers your basic needs.

On the issue of apps and games, when next you hear them ranting, take time to ask them what those apps do. I've done that severally here and EACH TIME they end up empty. There have been alot of 'your favourite apps' threads which I've taken time to scout and I can tell you that over 95% of the apps I see there are well catered for on WP.

That does not mean some important apps are not missing, but most of them are not really useful to us in Nigeria e.g. Instagram and Pandora.
WP has 130,000 apps and most (if not all) the apps you would need are already there.
The issue with most people and WP8 is that I it has been hacked yet but that's not much of an excuse.

To the issue of games, yes there is a definite chasm especially as regards some popular titles but a good number have been announced as coming.
Moreover, it's not like WP store is devoid of good games. Here is quite an outdated list of xbox live games ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_on_Windows_Phone ). Also a good number of games do not have the xbox status and recent titles are not there.

As for the phone in particular. I sincerely don't know which one you should go for. They all have different features and are priced accordingly. But if you're getting a WP, I would advice you get a Nokia device as it has added incentives.

Thanks for your time mate. Was really informative. I've narrowed my options down to Lumia 620 and 520 but I think I'll favour the 520 cos of the 4" screen and scratch resistance. I can always live without the LED flash and the Secondary camera, it's not as if I use them on a normal day.

It might be released by the end of March or beginning of April. Would also be nice if we started a thread completely on Windows Phone, it'll help.

Thanks again, I'm grateful.

You're welcome.
Yes if you can deal without those two, the 520 should offer you pretty good value for money.

Thank you jor. It'll make a lot of sense. Current users, intending users and past users will be able to share their views and help one another with fixes and all.

But I haven't seen enough WP users to start a thread.

It will be nice to have one. U may be suprised at the number of people that would come onboard. Got one (an 820) but it's yet to arrive. Looking forward to where I can get good pointers. Thanks

Airtel works just fine but it's super slow. You were wrong about the lumia 620, it's got Gorilla glass. The phone's super cool and sleek i must say. Try visiting gsmarena.com to compare phone whenever you need infos.
