Every Nigerian Website I paid a visit to, there is always a high probability that I will encounter the "I" word.

Some bloggers dedicate unreasonable amount of space in their blog, spewing out stories and theories about a certain new age secret cult called Illuminati.

According to some, their aim is to control and dominate the world.

While some believe that by getting initiated, members will automatically became rich and famous. They even went as far as listing out many popular names in Nigerian entertainment industry and Diaspora.

So the ongoing trend is thus;Whenever a musician or actor has a career breakthrough, and became suddenly famous, then he or she must have joined Illuminati.

The beauty of their respective singles or acting, that in a rational point of view may have given them that extra push in the right direction, doesn't come into play anymore.

Before, the Nigerian Population have always been divided in terms of popular beliefs, urban myths, etc. There were the rationales(those that doesn't believe outrageous stories/theories without proof) and the Erratic(those that believe in alien abduction and such theories)

Sadly, it's not so any longer. At the moment, almost everyone is presently a conspiracy theorist, foretelling the end of the world.

Rationalism seems to to have taken the back seat compared to the current fore-runner;illuminati saga.

I did some research and discovered a sad truth; Illuminati theories are fueled by religion.

Almost every religious persons believe in the Illuminati stories compared to atheist non believers.

My question is simple; Where do you stand? Does your faith or lack of faith play a huge part in your decision making?

No it doesn't. It would be close-minded if after being presented with valid objective evidence (or logic in some cases) one still refuses to change his views. Or at least admit he might be wrong and would have to research/reflect on the issue. If someone claims he's from FEMA yet provides no evidence for this but says you should follow him to camp for whatever reason, especially when no disaster has taken place, you should be critical.

My dad told me Illuminati has been in existence for a long while (Angels and Demons kinda refined the idea). He said they used to be a group of scientists whose theories as at the time were beginning to make people regard the church less, hence the Roman Catholic church chose to teach them a leson by marking them.

the word illuminati means to illuminate i.e, bring to light, and they aimed to 'expose' the 'deceit' of the church by disproving every theory the church ever held sacred, like niflheim said, they went into hiding when their members were being persecuted and killed. I don't know the rest of the story, but there's this tale that they sought assistance from the devil and exchanged their souls for this, hence the recent illuminati theory.

I watched this interview of a man who was telling the story of the illuminati, and he laughed at the rumours that artistes were members of the said cult, saying Illuminati dealt with business moguls and scientists, and not musicians.

I personally feel that the likes of Jay-Z and co are just feeding on the Illuminati craze, cos the more they do things related to the cult, the more people are intrigued and interested, and every artiste wants to keep his/her act interesting. You've gotta give it the Gagarious Gaga though, she's really putting her all into it
