I agree that most Nigerian songs are nonsense. Its the producer that give these songs life with beats.
Actually, the songs are not what baffles me but the title "Superstar" that these artist give to themselves.Someone whose lyrics are nonesense calls himself a star soon they will start receiving national honours.See what it took MJ and other foreign artist to become superstar but our own is different. With any stupid song they start walking on the red carpet.

LONGFELLOW02: All 9ja songs are useless&Meaningles.

Only 2baba&banky sing nice song.

What is Skelewu
2baba?
Dont make me laugh jare, I can only pick Dare,Banky W,Timi Dokolo,Dagrin,Sunny Nneji, Mode9,Asa.
Few tracks from Flavour are also doing well especially Chinny and Ada.
Songs done by other Nigerian artists are all wack especially those recorded by Wizkid,Inyanya,Kcee,May D,Chidinma.
Chidinma was a class act at the MTN project fame and I thought she was going to be our next soul queen but she has since gone astray, Iyanya and Kcee are just plain annoying, listening to Kcee's Pullover is like committing suicide.

Take banana by D Prince, Uku by Timaya (I nor know whether na hit for your side o but for Warri here, almost everybody is saying uku!!!) and some other songs which I can't remember right now. I wonder how these songs became hits.
Re: Nigerian Songs You Can't Understand How They Became Hit Songs by Etianwanokon: 8:02am On Nov 23, 2013
I believe its because they are using our local beats.
Boy you need to see me dancing Skelewu. You will laugh your heart out.
Both male and female musicians are trying.
Lets give it up for them.

It has to be 'kukere' for me. Till date i still have totally no idea whatsoever what the guy is saying!

I think what they do is, flood d airwaves with d song. Once people latch on to d beat, viral effect does the rest. I mean look at Duncan Mighty - i don't give a shot! It still beats d Jesus outta me how d very first person paid for that track.

Rayvene: Virtually all Naija 'hit' songs.
But I'm just gonna name a few that really baffle me with their utter lack of meaning sad

Davido - Skelewu undecided

All Terry G songs sad

All Timaya's songs(especially Ukwu grin)

Kcee - Pullover(Seriously,I still can't believe he ACTUALLY went into a studio and recorded that shiit)

D'Banj - Scapegoat. And as if the main song wasn't bad enough,he had to go ahead and disgrace Naija, doing the remix with Kanye and all that embarassed

Oh,and let's not forget Stupiid Love and Durosoke by that noisemaking Lil-Wayne wannabe undecided

Ok those are the worst of the lot to me cheesy

sheunpompey1: Naija artiste are bunch of funny peeps... They promote absurd things yet Nigerians love it... Bad language, nude pic, odd videos... Name it. The world is running to a close...
The things you mentioned are exclusive to Naija artistes alone? It seems we see more ill in what our people does than that of others openly full of ills. 50 cent, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj et al do those things more than all Nigerian artistes combined yet these are the same people that everyone likes to hear their songs.

oluamid: I remember the first time I heard Ifana Ibaga by 2face back in the early 2000s and I was like 'what kinda trash is this?'. Fast-forward 6 months later and it was a heavy hit. Same thing happened when I first heard Olamide's Eni Duro, I was like 'where's this Naija Lil Wayne from'? Look at where that song has put him.
noo...i hated rap music( stil hate rap music) but eni duro, even b4 it became hit...i went online to search 4 d lyrics...it had a 'street something' in it...as in it had no dull lyric, tyt 4rm beginin to end

A lot of Nigerian songs fall into the category of "good beats, no verbal content" and we tend to like them as they are. But one song that really surprised me when it became a hit is "Ma Bebe - Skye B". It was thrash even by our standards...

I also think that "Alingo - P Square" was crap until the video was released...

Whatever came out from Kennis music. How many of you have heard 'TO MY UNBORN CHILD' by Banky W ft. Lynxx? That song is deep, but y'all be on meaningless songs all day. Lynxx did 'ICE CREAM FACTORY' I still can't beleive that song wasn't a hit, it sounded like something from Tu Pac, instead, Fine fine lady was the hit. Only P-square, Tu face and Banky release non-club bangers that sell. Songs like omoge mi, Ifunanya, More than a friend, Say your love, Rain drops, African queen, Only me, true love, yes/no and strong tin sold despite being more RnB than pop.
