I bought Afterburn from Afterworks september last year. I havent had the
chance to give it to anyone yet so I am the only one who has used the license.
I got the max 7, 8 and 9 versions and I also got dreamscape with it. Soooo,

how about I get Vray for max 9 from you for Afterburn? Men that will save me
about 1,200 dollars or so.

Nice renders, with the way u use mental ray , i'll say u dont need vray, u seem 2 have mastered mental ray quite well.

As to getting vray for free, there are ways to download it online.
It's not exactly legal to use pirate software but it works around here. Let me know if ure still interested

The situation is, I love the feel vray produces. I have seen professinal renders, I have seen
amateur outputs as well. It seems to me vray offers what I need to achieve believable reaslism for my movie effects
and production. I still THINK it is better than Mental ray. My opinion anyway. I want your help eremie, I want that Vray
by every means necessary. I really dont like pirated softs but I may have to break that policy for vray. Pls I am expecting
your earliest post. Thanks

i have all the Afterburn versions and vray versions , And i got them from the internet for free , U just have to be a good googler, cos everything on the internet is free.

@cg king. yep its absolutely true that u cud get jus about everything on the internet for free. just hav to know where to look. you shud b able to download vray provided u hav a decent connection and a torrent download manager like flashget(tswat i use) go to thepiratebay.org and type in vray in the search bar look for the suitable version and yes do try to check the comments below the torrent on this site jus before u download because a lot of these torrents are just armada's of viruses and trojans in disguise and the comments let u know if it works or its just a malicious ploy. if you dont get it at pirate bay jus google "vray torrent" and it shud give u a site with the torrent. however not all torrent sites are free so u kinda hav ta find your way round. till u get wha u want.

Nice spirit, am into music videos at the moment but am on a little hold, the next ones gonna be big. Am not aiming 4 the usually"overloaded-with-graphics" music video but more hollywood style effects. Good 2 know there are others on the same wave length.

We would do some big things together no doubt about that and that is not far into the future. I have been watching you all silently for sometime before i joined nairaland, and I must say am amazed that such talents and passion exist in Nigeria. I am thrilled you are all within reach. From previous plans, we thought we would have to resort to India to build a CG production team so you can imagine the relief.

Anyways, dont like raising xpectations before time, let us get our acts completely together over here. Till then, keeping sharpening your skills

Two different things. If you are using 3d max,

Turbo smooth will help you smoothen those chairs, from the looks of it, you may have used
standard smooth modifier or smoothing group effect of poly objects. Turbo smooth is like meshsmooth but more powerful.

Ambient Occlusion is a wonderful way to simulate Global Illumination. After calculating your GI, you can
improve your design by adding Ambient Occ to it. It adds sdds sweet, realistic contact shadows to your
design, making it stronger and more realistic. Now, I am not too sure but I think Ambient Occ works only
with mental ray. I really havent used any other render engine so I can say for sure. By end of this week,
I should be a v ray user, thanks to someone I met on Nairaland.

This is an Occlusion pass from an animation project i did a while ago. See the nice shadows the balls
cast on the windy road. Or the shadows at the side curves of the road? Only AO can give you effects this neat.

x-wit> my own defination of ambient occlusion is quite similar to cgkings.AO is a more realistic shadow that is added to a scene to compliment its GI. a scene cast it Ao shadow irrespective of its normal shadow casted by d light direction. i will advice the use of AO only in the case of final render.make sure ur light shadows are turned of to avoide to much shadows in d scene.

Thanks for the prop and great t' meet you too.
I like the renders of cinema 4d, i have a copy but
have never used it. I just wanna settle for only two 3d programs cos
3d is not all i am into. After max, i planned to specialize in Maya but now
i find myself creeping towards Softimage XSI. The product has pleased me
in recent times.

And for what it is worth, XSI is now an Autodesk product. I dont know whether
that makes choosing a 3d program better or more confusing.
