@all gurus in d house
what do u think about duplicating/cloning a working pay tv card and using d clone card on another receiver to watch encrypted channels. An example: "lets say my neighbor is a dstv subscriber and has a working card, then i duplicate his card using a smart card writer". Now d questn is, do u think d duplicated card will be able to open d encrypted channels on my own receiver without subscribing?

bros,if u ve the card cloner let me know immediately,i ve been looking for this break through since.contact me with my yahoo i.d and i ll let u know more on this clone stuff.plz dont post about it again cos its illegal.

@F_Marshal
Sonicview has auto detection it outputs both NTSC & PAL, but when patched because the software is programmed in / and designed for North America (USA/Canada) they just use NTSC which is the format used there. Almost all new TVs in Naija are multi-system , i use LG Flatron. The voltage is auto 90v~250v.
Thanks for the info. wink I'm familliar with Sonicview here in the US, but don't own one. I own a different brand. Maybe, my next trip to Naija, I will take a couple of them home to test. Did you have to patch it in Naija and which keys were you having problems entering before?

When installing your Dish, make sure the line of sight for the Satellite (LOS) you're trying to receive is "clear and unobstructed". See illustrations below.

@ F_marchal,
that was a nice tip from you, but let me remind you that, obstruction against beams affect more of c-band freqs compared to its ku-band freqs.
Come over to lagos especially lagos mainland, where you will so many DSTV/HITV dishes being faced against Storey buildings.
Many people residing in lagos can testify against that, they know what am talking about.

@ toxnaija,
everything seems to be going on well now, you can give it a try.

Hi everyone, I guess I am the newest member in this forum. Well, I have been reading some of the comments and have learnt certain things. Just I need to ask some specific questions: 1. Can I use my fstv decoder or dstv (dsd 910) decoder. 2. Do I have to change the positioning of my dishes? I mean to pick the various degrees( ie vertically). 3. I reside in Ikeja and would love to know what are the possibilities of me receiving channels from different satellites without having to move my dish. Thanks for this great forum. Cruxifx(Cross).

Many people residing in lagos can testify against that, they know what am talking about.

About that, beams which are intended for a particular area usually have higher signal strenght, so are more likely to fare better when there is an obstruction along the path of the beam, as long as there is enough signal coming through. dstv, mytv, hitv, e.t.c all have their beams focused on Nigeria, and usually have very high signal strenght, so trees and buildings which are along the beam path in a way that allows some of the signals to filter through (such as in the second picture by F_Marshal), will attenuate the signal strenght, but not so much that they do not allow anything through, but when the signal is weak, like Nilesat for example (a ku-band broadcast) you really need a really good line of sight to the bird, cos obstructions will cost you a lot of signal loss. let me give an analogy, a really bright torchlight will have its beam shine through a card board paper, much better than one whose light is not so bright.
i guess what i am trying to say is that what obstructions do to the reception of signals is a function of the signal strenght (ku band signals are generally meant to have higher signal strenghts to a particular area than C-band), and not broadcast frequency/wavelenght. Infact, i can guarantee you something, you cannot receive even dstv when there is total obstruction to the signal such as in your living room.

Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by Nobody: 11:05am On Oct 17, 2008
@ all,
Communication satellite can be likened to a big microwave repeater in the sky. It contains several transponders, each of which listens to some portion of the spectrum, amplifies the incoming signal, and then rebroadcasts it at another frequency to avoid interference with the incoming signal. The downward beams can be broad, covering a substantial of the earth's surface, or narrow, covering an area only hundreds of kilometers in diameter. This mode of operation is known as BENT PIPE.
According to kepler's law, the orbital period of a satellite varies as the radius of the orbit to the 3/2 power. The higher the satellite, the longer the period. Near the surface of the earth, the period is about 90 minutes. Consequently, low-orbit satellites pass out of view fairly quickly, so many of them are needed to provide continous coverage. At an altitude of about 35,800KM, the period is 24 hours. At an altitude of 384,000KM, the period is about one month, as anyone who has observed the moon regularly can testify, mostly astrologers and muhammedans.
A satellite at an altitude of 35,800km in a circular equatorial orbit appear to remain motionless in the sky, is totally false. It rotates round the earth as the earth also revolves along its axis, which results to its days and nights. And thats the reason, if 2 satellites dish facing 36E, is installed at various time in the year, like if one is installed in january, and the other installed around november of the same year.If one takes a closer look to the dish one will notice a slight angular difference.
With current technology, it is unwise to have geostationary satellites spaced much closer than 2 degrees in the 360-degree equatorial plane, to avoid interference. With a spacing of 2 degrees, there can only be 360/2 = 180 of these satellites in the sky at once. However each transponder can use multiple frequencies and polarizations to increase the available bandwidth.
Modern satellites can be quite large, weighing up to 4000kg and consuming several kilowatts of electric power produced by the solar panels. The effects of solar, lunar, and planetary gravity tend to move them away from their assigned orbit slots and orientations, an effect countered by on-board rocket motors. This fine-tuning is called STATION KEEPING. Howver when the fuel for the motors has been exhausted, typically in about 10 years, the satellite drifts and tumbles helplessly, so it has to be turned off. Eventually, the orbit decays and the satellite reenters the atmosphere and burns up or occasionally crashes to earth.
The highest band is the c-band, these bands are already overcrowded because they are used by the common carriers for terrestial microwave links. The L and S bands were added by international agreement in 2000. Howver, they are narrow and crowded. The next highest band available to commercial telecommunication carriers is the ku (K under) band. This band is not (yet) congested, and at these frequencies, satellites can be spaced as close as 1 degree(e.g nilesat 101, nilesat102/ atlantic bird 4) all at 7W, there are slight difference intheir angle, note that. However, water is an excellent absorber of these short microwaves signals. Fortunately, heavy storms are usually localized, so using several widely separated ground stations instead of just one circumvents the problem but at the price of extra antennaes, extra cables, and extra electronics to enable rapid switching between stations. Bandwidth has also been allocated in the ka (K above) band 20GHz-30GHz for commercial satellite traffic but the eauipment needed to use it is still much expensive. In addition to these commercial bands, many government and military bands also exist on all these satellites but they are kept highly confidential (top secret), thats why they cant be fund on lyngsat, but they exist. different equipment are needed to intercept these bands

Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by Enigma(m): 11:23am On Oct 17, 2008
With regard to dishes and obstructions, what F_Marshal posted is correct. Even if you are within the official footprint of a particular satellite and in a strong signal area, your dish and receiver will not receive good enough signal (if any at all) if there is an obstruction in the way such as a house or a tree.

The reason it seems that houses etc in Naija are not obstructing dishes is not simply because of the footprint or strength of incoming signal but rather the angle from which the dish is receiving the signal. For example a dish may seem to be pointing towards a house whereas it is receiving the signal from an angle which is over the house. This is particularly so because the relatively small dishes that we use are offset dishes rather than prime focus dishes. Offset dishes receive the signal at an angle on the face of the dish unlike prime focus dishes.

See an example in the following link:

Sathob,

whatever you do, do not try to load a patch for strong onto your decoder. i also searched the net for info on your decoder, but could not get any site where the patch for it was listed. there are other options though, does the decoder have a USB port, you could try loading a softcam from the net unto, they usually contain the necessary keys for sabc/etv. if it doesn't, well, we'll keep checking for you.

It seems that the Radix DT 100 is not all that popular; also, it seems that what to do is to convert it to another receiver (e.g. Skycom). If sathob has time , he should google 'radix to skycom' or just the two main words or 'convert radix dt' or something like that.

WRT Radix generally, the best link I found so far is: http://www.sat-television.com/forumdisplay.php?f=660
