haibe: your reasoning is extremely low. What kind of culture is it that restricts movements of innocent individuals or pose a threat to kill or use them as sacrifice? in this 21st century? Shouldn't we be wiser than all this now? It's people like you that will never make positive changes when in authority even though it's clear some pratices should be scrapped

It is the Yoruba culture, if you don't like it go back to ur culture-less village

Your number 4 reason got me laughing hysterically.
Note: if this festival was so good, the former oba would not have banned it. You are not more traditional than he is.

Stop being stupiid and fooliish..Your christian religion that you carry on your head is being dumped by the white men that sold it to you in the first place..Are you more of a better christian than they were? Ode!!!

As oro started giving people food...

Yes! Don't go out and make money.
Stay home and honour the king.
If you don't like that leave his territory and return to ur village

This is a call to the christian community, more work needs to be done. Evangelism has not reach everywhere o so no resting. God will help us
The Gospel of Jesus Christ has reach there but the people have rejected the word of God!!!

chulla12: I am actually non-religious. A faithless world where life is valued imo is much better than glorified superstition which has engineered the killings of innocent millions over years (I'm talking about Islam, Christianity in past days, crude paganism).

The fact that adherents in these various beliefs (yourself included) are okay with this sort of thing because it typifies a "spiritual lifestyle" shows that human beings have a long way to go. It's no different from the marauding Christian crusaders in medieval times and radical islamism prevalent in many countries.

Reading this thread reminded me of a conversation I witnessed between my driver (from a minority tribe) and his Yoruba friend. They were discussing the unfortunate spate of ritual killings that occur during an Oba's burial...where fresh human heads were buried with the king to signify his transition to the spiritual world with his servants. Disturbed, my driver asked his friend why this practice was still held among the Yoruba. His friend proudly shrugged him off by saying "it is our tradition."

On that note, I will humor you by saying it is none of my business as you have justified it to be tradition in defence.

Have a good day.

bro human sacrifices when oba dies was practiced during ancient time for example, in bini they no longer do that.

You mean this wood and clay :

It is not just Westernization. The Japs, the INdians, etc., all contributed to modern technology.

Nowhere is computers mentioned in the bible. Most of these scientitst were not even religious or christians to begin with.

Traditional Religion has contributed to my daily spiritual needs which is what a religion is supposed to do>. Not make ipads or bomb people.

Do you wash your A$$ with a comb? Seriously jorr get a life! Everything has its own function. Why are you comparing two different unrelated things

And btw Africa had its own Indigenous "clinics" and medicine to combat ailments before oyinbo came. so stop this nonsense that christianity brought modern medicine. Most of today smedicine anyways has its roots in Ancient Pagan Greek-Egyptian-Hindu methods. Surgical methods were already practiced before christianity and anaesthesia too.

You are no authority on so-called masquerades. Just go and try to stop Oro. come back and tell us your tale.

of course I will give ceasar wat belongs to him because this myopic practice hasn't been scrapped. The president is the head of Nigeria, and therefore has the power to make positive changes. Practices like this poses a threat to the life of citizens that reside in this areas and therefore should be made a criminal offence since everyone has a right to life. This is where the boko haram bombings is different since its obviously criminal offence but this oro bulshit is seen as normal.

Why should the death of one man restrict the movement of thousands of people who have important things to do? why should it lead to the death of people or cause unnecessary fear? Nigeria shouldn't be this backward in this 21st century; rituals of this nature should be made a criminal offence. If they want to appoint another oba, they will do the same practice of oro again and use the lives of innocent people as sacrifice, why should things like this be supported? What if it happens that one of our relatives are killed for the sake of an oba? or because boko haram is killing, it then justifies killings by other sects?

Well let everyone practice what they believe but without interfering with the law of the nation by taking lives or causing unnecessary restrictions to citizens. Do you know how many people would lose their jobs because they reside in ikorodu? Argh! !!

The ikorodu people aren't complaining. It's their right to practice their culture.
If you don't like it pls pls pls return to ur village

Comments like this only highlights the sheer ignorance and inability of most Nigerians to engage in a grown up discussion without bringing meaningless comparison into it. So because bokoharam are causing chaos in our country, you silly tw@t think it's okay for other religions yo put restrictions on our lives, and you wonder why Africa is in its sorry state. Other continents are sending men to the moon, coming up with new technological innovations that amazes everyone, my own people are dancing around in masquerades and threatening their fellow citizens.

Maybe if you spend this much time attacking churches and mosques for wasting our time you could be taken seriously.

Japan with all it's home grown technological advancement is very much attached to it's ancestral cultures so is China.
So you have no case

They should do their religion in the way that doesn't affect others right.

This is the land of the indigenes before the foreigners came.

So they have every right to practice their age-old customs.

It doesnt take palce everyday. just once in a while. so newcomers must learn to put up with it.

In my opinion, the day should be granted a state holiday.

amodu: There will be restriction of movement in Ikorodu tomorrow(7, Aug
2014) in respect of the late Ayangburen of Ikorodu.

The famous Eluku Idol will be on parade for the first time after over 10 years an embargo was placed on it by the late king; A non-indigene is permitted to witness it, so stay clear by staying indoor. Also, there will be Oroo to which doesn't involve the female sex.

The announcement was made late this night by the popular vigilante group known as 'Onyabo' led by the leader Chief Bomabata. Indigene alike who are not man enough should also stay clear.

Although, it's not all over Ikorodu Division,
but some major areas in Ikorodu Central are the
focus areas... Areas like (Itunmaja, Ota-Ona, Ejina,
Aga, Obun-Ale, Ita-elewa, Ladega, Lowa, Ojogbe, Ojubode, Garage Round-About and co...

From 8am-12pm... Someone can move around from
12pm-6pm BUT one should just make sure He/She is
back in his/her home at exactly 6pm... MY ADVICE:
If you don't have any important mission tomorrow,
STAY AT HOME... Ikorodu o ni baje o!

Front page pls
na wa ooo...
