It seems this is another topic that will start a fight.

You can be proud of your tribe and not insult others.

This is New.  Never knew Yoruba people protects others. Where does that happen, i don't think it's in Nigeria.

Where in Nigeria is this happening? I could have sworn alot of people in Lagos that aren't Yoruba are sometimes harrashed in that part?
I need to talk to my aunts about this.  Nigeria must have changed since last time i've visited.

P.S: I don't think Yoruba's are the friendliest.
According to the comments written by them in this website; friendliest is out of the question.

@alloy emeka
that is not the point, its not about yorubas paying house rent or not,its about answering a specific assertion you made based on my experiences from landlords i know in lagos, doesnt that first paragraph of yours smack of tribalism?so its ibos who r the best tenants based on your flawed thesis??yet you r quick to call people tribalists, the age has a lot to do with it because older men/women own most of the houses and are less disposed to legal wranglings and stress resulting from tenants e.t.c
yoruba tenants epecially younger tenants will not be prone to taking their yoruba landlords to court as opposed to a ibo/hausa tenant,so because i live abroad now i dont know wats going on in lagos? grin

2.i dont know how many times egesu and bakassi have harrased ppl but i know for a fact there were several cases of bakassi boys hounding innocent people and meting out jungle justice based on personal grievances which has nothing to do with their objectives, part of the reasons their popularity and appeal has gone wayyy down

3.yes its got nothing to do with them being ibos, its their shop's proximity to where the alayees congregate, how many alayes are disturbing traders in alaba?or the spare parts market in ladipo e.t.c thank GOD you admitted a yoruba oba in a yoruba town sorted everything out.

4.that is not the issue here, the question u asked in your comments was,"where has the yorubas ever stuck their neck out" and i gave you several instances finish!nobody is doing an ibo/yoruba comparison neither do i want to be drawn into that at all

5.yea right, so the fact that obama is a president, condoleeza rice, colin powell mean theres no racism in america?or the fact that we have david lammy, boateng e.t.c in uk mean theres no racism?? you mentioned only two one part yoruba/part ibo and the other yoruba, mention ten yorubas who are big in nollywood?

6.here we go again,so the ibos are not far flung and wer never taken as slaves?first you gys claim most afican americans descended from igbo stock next you r claiming its because yorubas are takn into slavery do you realise how pathetic that sounds?going by this cooment i guess when nigerians were taken abroad as slaves, they seperated them on the basis of tribe/ethnicity grin grin

i dont know why the poster started the thread and not necessarily interested, all im doing is correcting a flawed asumption

btw, sango the epic is a yoruba production and no movie has outsold it ever since in nigeria,
most professional movie directors,movie professionals
in nigeria right now are of yoruba and other ethnicities e.g eddie ugboma, tunde kelani of mainframe, obafemi lasode who made sango i could go on and on and besides they are internationally recognised apart from amaka igwe but oblidge me by mentioning them
Re: Which Is The Most Friendly Tribe In Nigeria? by KarmaMod(f): 4:06pm On Nov 09, 2008
But if you use your common sense at all you may ask yourself why 90% yoruba movies are consumed by only yorubas if language is not a barrier in movie business?

Only for ignorant retards like you, that it's a barrier. Should the Brazilians start making their movies in English because "people" like you are too slow for subtitles? Other countries continue to make movies in their languages and that hasnt stopped them from winning awards, so what is Nollywood's excuse? I'm beginning to think Aloy Emeka is the infamous DonzMan, this is the same pathetic argument he used to use.
As for "pin hole camera"(your ignorance is amusing) hahaha, that didnt stop Tunde Kelani's movies to be shown at INTERNATIONAL film festivals. Please name one of yours that achieved such a feat.
Even that garbage known as Amazing Grace that the Amatas went to get all the white people around to star in it, didnt get anywhere  tongue

Berra go back to selling your language movies again and stop making it just available for a certain area, maybe then you'll get some respect because Ghanaian movies are already defeating you and your redundant Hollywood.

No one has a problem with your supposed "sweetie". I just find it HILARIOUS that someone who has such nasty garbage to say about Yorubas, would even bother marrying one. Why bother since we're wicked people who discriminate, kidnap and all sorts of nonsense abi? How can her family like you when they can see RIGHT through YOUR BS. Bloody Pretender.

Re: Which Is The Most Friendly Tribe In Nigeria? by okunoba(m): 1:38am On Nov 10, 2008
which is the most friendly tribe in Nigeria thread tells u alot about Nigerians, it gives one an insight into one of the major problems facing this potentially great country. First I would like to refrain from using the word tribe to describe the different groups but rather use the more appropriate word "ethnic "
The Q`s is pathetic and divisive but on the other hand it shows how divided and ethnically bias we are as a nation. If we were to take this issue seriously, one would have to ask, what yard stick do we use to measure friendliest and who should adjudicate? One would have thought that with the Obama victory in America, we as a people would be working towards a common goal of making Nigeria and indeed the world a better place for ourselves and the next generation instead of being stuck in that old destructive tradition of hate and division. We as a people can achieve so much if only we learn to work together for the common good of our country. We do not need to put another ethnic group down to feel good about ourselves. Together we stand divided we fall.

Yep; Some moved to Ogun state because the then gov gave them a free land to build their mkt and others moved to Nnewi. I don't know any that moved to onitsha en masse. Onitsha is filled to the brim now thats why most people are moving to Asaba.
Re: Which Is The Most Friendly Tribe In Nigeria? by AloyEmeka9: 8:14am On Nov 10, 2008
oooh shut up Undecided. A landlord has a right to rent to whomever he/she wishes, that is why they call them landlords. If I am one in lagos, i will never ever rent to hausas and it's my wish so don't ask me why Undecided. It's not as if they have money to rent a flat anywayz.
The more reason why you may not be able to build a house of your own in your lifetime. I wonder how you will feel if your son calls you one day in 2025 to complain that the landlord discriminated against him because he is either Yoruba or black. You need serious counseling. Nkita ara.

You gave some nonsensical reason why yoruba landlords discriminate against non yoruba tenants and I asked you why that theory is not applicable by other tribes. Can you agree with me that the landlord discrimination practice is evil, uncalled for and should be condemned?. Mind you that there are millions of igbo landlords in lagos, I am yet to get a complain of one that discriminated against a potential tenant because he or she is yoruba.

yoruba tenants epecially younger tenants will not be prone to taking their yoruba landlords to court as opposed to a ibo/hausa tenant,so because i live abroad now i don't know wats going on in lagos? Grin
How did you conclude this?. taking legal action against somebody usually stems from perceived injustice and i don't think the yorubas shy away from the judiciary that much.

2.i don't know how many times egesu and bakassi have harrased people but i know for a fact there were several cases of bakassi boys hounding innocent people and meting out jungle justice based on personal grievances which has nothing to do with their objectives, part of the reasons their popularity and appeal has gone wayyy down

Where? Bakassi once embarked on cleansing the streets and ripping it of heinous criminals. There has never been any form of tribal warfare that involves bakassi or egbesu.

May be you are right.

4.that is not the issue here, the question u asked in your comments was,"where has the yorubas ever stuck their neck out" and i gave you several instances finish!nobody is doing an ibo/yoruba comparison neither do i want to be drawn into that at all
They still do it till this day just like others from gazillion tribes in Nigeria do. It is not a trade mark that should qualify someone for being best like Fumi claimed.

10? mention 10 igbos that are big in Nollywood?. How did this Nollywood issue come into this discussion by the way?

6.here we go again,so the ibos are not far flung and wer never taken as slaves?first you gys claim most afican americans descended from igbo stock next you r claiming its because yorubas are takn into slavery do you realise how pathetic that sounds?going by this cooment i guess when nigerians were taken abroad as slaves, they seperated them on the basis of tribe/ethnicity Grin Grin

Most slaves taken to the Americas were Yorubas because the slave merchants invaded the west through dahomey. They were different from North American slave merchants. It's not only by slavery like I said, emigration too played a part.

i don't know why the poster started the thread and not necessarily interested, all I'm doing is correcting a flawed asumption
You don't know? She started it because she wants Hausa pinned to the wall by every possible means. She is now rolling her eyes like the ugly Nigerian actor, Rahman, as if she is confused.

Have you sold movies before? How did you conclude that sango outsold Living in bondage without facts?. Because something is happening in your part of town doesn't mean it's happening everywhere. Most of your folks just don't get it. I have never seen sango before and have only heard of it from Yoruba people. There is an igbo movie called ikuku that sold in the east like no other, have you heard anyone here claim that it outsold sango b/c it was a household name in igboland?. I do not dwell in the past like most of you Nigerians that will be quick to reason with Awolowo,Zik etc, I am no republican. The world is moving fast, so a guy like you should look towards the future and not people that made it happen in the 90's. The movie directors you mentioned above have had a fair share of a good career but that was in the past. My best now are Izu Ojukwu, Emem Isong and Teco Benson. Don't sleep yet because better ones are coming ahead.
Make I go find money jare. Enjoy your day and remember to bless someone today.

I am slowly getting tired of a gang of tribalists here. You no be one of them sha. Do come to www.Naijarea.com and read something refreshing about Nigeria and it's people.

This is like those Logic and Law thingy they taught us in Secondary school. For instance. . .

All Alaayes are Yoruba but All Yoruba are not Alaayes.

The only way your Alaaayes show how horrible Yorubas are theory can make sense, is if The Igbo traders had moved to Onitsha, Owerri, Aba, Anambra. . . any Igbo state and not Ogun State.
