Yes, these animals long existed in the times of yore before modern civilization made some go into extinction. Our forefathers only gave names to animals that they saw and encountered. Animals they never saw or knew have no Igbo names today such as whale, dolphin, bear etc. However, these animals can be given Igbo names of today.

Eneke is Swallow of the Hirundinidae family of birds and in some countries they are also called martins.

For the Anioma people Lion is Awolo although some would recognize Odum too.
