Who knows what locusts are called in Igbo?

And that proverbially beautiful rodent-like animal called ogini - anyone know it's English name?

Locust is Ig(w)ube or Ig(w)urube depending on your dialect

Goat is ewu.

It's the pronunciation that differs. Frog is pronounced 'ehwoo'

You probably mean Toad instead of Frog. In my dialect, toad is called "awo (centralized igbo) or ewo/ehwo" while frog is called "mbara"

Really? This would be the first time I'm hearing that. I always knew the tiger to be an Asian species?

But how did the lion and the cheetah and the leopard and the other Big Cats srurvive our ancestors' killing skills, while the (arguably) bigger and more ferocious tiger got wiped off the entire continent? It's puzzling.

Tigers never roamed the wild of Africa. They are purely an asian species of the feline (cat) family. Tigers found in Africa today were imported from Asia.

No they are two different types of amphibians: Frog is edible while Toad isn't. The bigger Frog that's almost the size of Toads is called "Odo" with dots on both "O" when pronouncing it

Igbouzo actually, anglicized wrongly as 'Ibusa'.

They speak Enuani Igbo. I have a very good friend from there.

Yes. And I was taught that:

Edi/edi abali was the African civet.

Agu was the leopard

Odum was the lion.

No local name for the tiger, except you want to coin one.

No. Agu is leopard and Lion is Odum. Ever heard of the statement, 'Odum Ebo Judea'? Translated in English as 'Lion of the tribe of Judea'? Or going by your translation, 'Tiger of the tribe of Judea'??

Tigers never existed in Africa but mainly in Asia (China, India etc.) and thus our ancestors never saw them to give them a name and were only recently imported to Africa.

You sure? There's an old proverb in ukwuani which says 'the tiger and the lion never meet'

Tiger and leopard are similar physically, I guess it is why you might be mistranslating 'leopard' as 'tiger'. Tigers never existed in ancient africa. The proper translation should be 'the leopard and the lion never meet'.
