HardMirror: I am a closet atheist for my safety. I have never been a serious christian. Have always being skeptical of religion since my teen. If my family and husband family know of my atheist stand, they will disown me. So I am still involve in religion activities for fun. I usually have a good laugh in church during sunday school and when the pastor is preaching. Your story is touching. How you were unable to heal the blind man and the dumb boy move me to tears. I wish it was possible. I congratulate you on your freedom from religion. I am really enjoying your story. Please dont stop. 17 Likes |

What happened when soldiers took over their territory? Even if odieshi was true... Don't you think there could have been a mystery behind it that you weren't opportuned to find out? So watin concern odieshi concern creator of the universe who selects to heal heal ache and stomach pain but cannot heal the blind? 11 Likes 1 Share |

rawgame:Sir don't be smart by half. I saw your post on odechi but decided it does not worth my time. IF odechi works, I assure you that it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for the British to Colonize Nigeria. Even Yorubas have "Ayeta". But the british came with their guns and defeated us and we surrendered. They plundered our lands and stole our heritage. We were no match for them. Let me ask you a question and be honest, would you prefer our government to spend on giving our soldiers Odeshi or on buying advanced military gadgets? So stop fooling yourself. 21 Likes 2 Shares |

Am glad I received a few positive feedbacks. I'd like to point something out, christians on this thread and it's first part are mainly filled with religion fanatics who argue only just for the sake of clarity. Might not be all of them, but reading some comments by christians and other religion followers on here attacking atheists and agnostic alike, and gently reinterpreting their undertones one would realize, they indeed need a push to abandon their believes they already on edge, they have already lost a chunk amount of their faiths that's why most are still hanging around. I'd use this medium to appeal to non-believers in here, we all know how long it took for us to shake our believes, for pete's sake, many believers were introduced to religion before they even started crawling about, it's a belief system they've trusted for decades, it's not going to be easy, it's the biggest form of brain wash in our world, and it took a lot of soul searching for most of us to realize this. I recall before I lost my faith and was searching for the truth, during my first degree, the first time I checked foreign religion blogs where atheists and likes converge, I didn't see a gathering of sane minds, it feels like those of devil reincarnates spreading the anti-christ gospel, heck it took a lot of chutzpah for me to realize I had been fed a whole bunch of colossal guano growing up. So we should be lenient, most believers here are searching for the truth, that's why they keep coming back, soon they'd know the truth, and hopefully not too late and it would set them free. Again thanks for relating your story to everyone @HardMirror, that takes chutzpah. Other contributors in here, johnydon22, urahara, frank317 to mention a few, your contributions have being rather compelling and most believers have seen reason because of you guys. Humanity would be set free soon. Salud! 15 Likes 3 Shares |

Coming out as an atheist is really a difficult thing. I have kept my believe from any of my family for close to a year now and it will remain such for a while to come. I have a friend who was just sent away from his home recently because he declared he's an atheist. Yet, we claim religion preaches tolerance. Hmmmm. The theatrics of TBJ combined with Chris Oyaks and Chris Okotie is enough to make me a full Ifa convert. But I believe there is God. it is sincerly disturbing how some people would believe so much in something to the extent that some of them would literarily die for it but when a REAL challenge comes up they foolishly dodge using lame excuses we have been hearing since the begining of time. Sometimes i just laugh it off, but some times its really annoying. For how long would people continue to deceive themselves. See how quick it is for some of them to bounce in here forming miracle worker but just as a real challenge is presented they run away as fast as the speed of light. The truth is as hardmirror has said they know it in their subconcious that its as likely as impossible. long stories short for all you miracle workers there is a challenge up you guys, no long story no excuses, just restore that litttle boys eyes.....im patiently waiting for those that are confident enough in the god they serve to take up the challenge 3 Likes 1 Share |

I have been following this thread with keen interest. I consciously refused to comment since because I know what the turn out will be like. But at this stage, I refuse to be an on looker but a contributor for the thread to flow. I know some people will be accusing HardMirror of being a satanist and blah blah blah. But I can tell you guys he is not one based on personal experiences of my own when I rejected religion. There was nothing I was not accused of.... Even My own mother accused me of being a cultist, kidnapper, diabolic agent and what have you all in an effort to throw me off balance. But I knew deep down me that I was none of these. I knew I was not a cultist coz I have not joined one before and will not join one. I knew I was not a kidnapper because I have not thought of not to talk of kidnapping someone. I knew I was not into diabolics because right from childhood, I have never believed in those stuffs. All in all, those accusations from her, priests and relatives were made to push me off balance. They wanted to attack my psyche which is partly how religion works. They will chain your senses (physically through lies/deception)and try to control you by words of mouth. If they succeed, they tell you that the holy spirit is in control but if they are unsuccessful, they say that satan is in control. The funny part is that if you compare your morality with that of those accusing you, you will find out that you are far off better than them! #Fact! Everything aside Hardmirror, though I am an "Atheist" in quote, I want to assure you and fellow "Atheists" that there is a Creator. This creator or source or nature as I usually call it, is far above what humans can ever understand! It is unknowable and can never be known. No science, religion, spirituality or whatever can explain it. All these gimmicks you see humans perform in the form of science, religion or whatever are just basic attempts to understand what confuses them. Humans are just trying to give themselves hope by inventing a whole lot of things like religion, science and metaphysics. But I do believe that there was an ORIGIN. I stand to be corrected though. 11 Likes |

In my former church (Catholic), they tell you that the so called mother of the so called saviour of the whole world appeared in Fatima, Lourdes, guadalupe and what have you. Thus you have our lady of Guadalupe, Our lady of Fatima and our lady of Lourdes. Ironically, no our lady of Enugu, No our lady of Kaduna, No our Lady of Rivers, No our lady of Onitsha or Aba, No Our lady of sokoto! Yet, she is the mother of the saviour of the whole world! Funny enough year to year, you see brain washed Africans trooping to these countries with the Forex we are lacking to experience miracles! Lols. Yet you cant see a white man visiting any place in Africa that will yield us Forex in the name of religion. Even if you try to claim that the virgin mary appeared in your backyard and should be propagated as their own was propagated, they will term ours a marine spirit!!! Lols. 1 Like |

johnydon22: Your analagy of perfection diluted the effect of your argument. First, whoever told you that worshiping God adds perfection to Him? How do you express your love to your mother, father, brothers and sisters, wife and children? What do you do to make them know how much you love them, appreciate them, and express your gratitude to them? Do you know what worship is btw? When I tell God I love Him I am worshiping Him. When I think about Him I am worshiping Him. Worship is not only about singing to God as you erroneously suppose. God does not need my worship to be God. However, my expression of worship is needed to show my love and gratitude to Him. And if I don't worship God, He still loves me with a deep love your human thinking cannot comprehend. But if your version of a perfect god requires these things then surely enough it cannot be perfect. In your words, perfection is a state of needing nothing, right? I want to go along with your thought here so your response is needed. And on the virtue of two contradicting characters 'Perfection & want' such a thing cannot exist. You're forgetting something. God is the Great Provider. If He needs anything He will not ask man to satisfy His needs because man is essentially in himself incapable of satisfying the needs of his Creator. Rather, the Creator is the One who satisfies the needs of His creation, man. If then your argument is grounded on the parallel existence of perfection and (not having) needs then you said it yourself, Jesus is God. Thus your argument falls flat on its face. 1 Like |

You waited too long in your own eyes to enter into Righteousness but when the door won't open you collapsed and died. No one says never to God. That principle exists only in your Mind. For right now, He is using you in your satanic camp. |

This is a fantastic thread, HardMirror. For all my adult life I was a strong dedicated humanistic Christian, and ended up an agnostic-atheist like you. I guess curiosity killed the cat. I have written down different versions of my story on NL including this long writeup about my journey into disbelief, this short post about my disillusionment with Christianity, this post about my views on prophecies and miracles, this response to a Nairalander on the revisionist history of Christianity, and this brief conclusion on the idea of god/gods. Writing out these posts was therapeutic and cathartic for me. 5 Likes 3 Shares |

@ hardmirror, dis is by far d most important/interesting thread i've come across on nairaland. I appreciate ur sincerity n guts, u've started fires in alot of religionists mind that can only keep burning all mythes/lies/fables they've bin fed with and accepted as truth. I share similar experience with u, tho to a lesser degree. In my sec. school days, i was a born again SU, sincerely/innocently seeking d face of god. I remember preaching in public bus on my way home after school. 1 thing i found confusing then (over 25yrs ago) was d concept/picture of a loving god sending his supposed children to a place of torment/hellfire, where they are to burn for eternity! That sounded like a wicked god whose anger endures for ever. This same god will accept a killer/rapist/armed Robber/corrupt politician into paradise just for saying d words: 'I ACCEPT JESUS INTO MY LIFE'. So d victim of d killer/corrupt politician goes to hellfire for telling 1 small lie and d killer goes to heaven for accepting jesus just b4 dying! Never made sense to me, but all xtians i come across belives dat is justice, 'cos d buy bull says so'. During my days on campus in ife, i wasn't religous, just d regular sunday church goer but was passively researching scriptures, trying to understand/clear d contradictions in it with d 'help of d holy spirit'. i still couldn't bring myself to studying outside scriptures, limited mydelf to scriptures and xtian literatures. There's dis church in america dat sends books n their magazines free, on request; Philadephia church of god (pcog), came across their magazine in my dept. mail box, n i tot, yes, dis is it! I thought god has finally led me to d 1 n only true church, i requested for almost all the books they had in their library and digested dem, yet d hunger n thirst never totally left. After my nysc, i relocated to lagos n stopped attending church for a while, tried keeping d sabbath n d old testament laws like d church preached. I remember writing to d church to set up a branch in Nigeria, dey replied, assuring me a pastor will come over soon. He arrived few months later, lodged in Airport hotel, ikeja. we discussed over some questions disturbing me, he seem a little uncomfortable and asked if i've not read so n so books frm their library, told him i have but they didn't do justice to d burning issues i had n his answers didn't satisfy me. He nicely promised to ask his superior n get back to me, he never did. To cut a long story short; didnt hear from him for a long time, unlike b4, he wasn't replying my emails n calls. Then he surprisingly replied me, forwarding a letter of suspension he was issued by d church. He told me he was suspended n finally excommunicated from d church for 'asking certain questions'. He later forwarded a link to me of a site formed by people excommunicated by d church. It was there he found out all d attrocities going on in d church n any member questioning any of d many beliefs of d church is expelled n all members, including ur family is banned frm speaking to u, else they will b polluted n got o hell with u. I was disappointed but forged ahead, describing myself as a truth seeker, wasn't scared of where it led me to as far as it was d truth. Then i came across a thread on nairaland; JESUS NEVER CAME AND IS NOT COMING BACK!- Former American pastor- Dr Ray Hagins (u can google dat name). Straight to youtube n google i went, i was blown away by wat i found. dis guy dissected n totally exposed d lies in d bible and what d 2 biggest religions in d world is all about- CONTROL, Using d tools of FEAR & FAITH. d Scales fell off my eyes immediately. Dr Ray Hagins is not an atheist, he's into ATR. To be continued, hand dey pain me 6 Likes 2 Shares |
