In other words, you're saying that the motive behind putting offering in the open is to embarrass those who don't have. I wonder the joy most of you derive in masturbating on threads that have anything to do with the church with your fallacious statements.

I don't mean to insult anyone but you xtians are not true to yourselves.. just some days back two my christian friends were discussing about some pastor and one of them said he fell down when the pastor touched him because he doesn't want to embarrass the pastor and not because he felt anything.. the logical conclusion here is that both the pastor and congregation are deceiving each other and it just baffles how you guyz don't see this or it could've occurred to many of you on this thread but you won't admit and learn.. some of your doctrines are just not 'reasonable'

I would like to address an issue that you raised first, before I answer your question whether "It's a sin to drop an empty envelope in an offering box?" It is definetly unethical to pretend as if you're fulfilling your religious requirement of tithing when you're not. To me, it is even worse to be pretentious than not having money to put in the envelope. Assuming arguendo, that it is a sin not to tithe, you would have committed just one sin for that act alone. Then to pretend like you're tithing when you're not is probably another sin. So now you have two SINS to contend with when you could have been dealing with just one. You're better off passing up on taking an envelope when you have nothing to give afterall, GOD knows all our inner thoughts, than pretending to give. Remember, GOD loves a cheerful giver and not a pretentious giver!

I have been puzzled for a while, I remember the time I refused to collect the envelope because I didnt have money but I ended up feeling embarrased because everyone kept staring, when it passed and I didnt put any money. So I wanna know is it a sin to collect the envelope and put it there empty to avoid public embarrassment. Because I don't genuinely have. I'll like thoughtful opinion on this.

With all due respect, I read some of ur posts why Christian threads are opened to all to comment while Islamic threads are closed, because of the insults muslims receive on their threads i agree wit u then but not now.
I woke up this morning to see a frontpage news of a pastor laying hands on the private part of a woman, which was a comic animation, ur people opened up the floor for rain of abuses to christianity. Nowadays a christian cannot open threads without atheists and muslims flooding the thread with insults, even wen the person is in dire need of biblical directions.
U can open at least 5 christian threads that made the front page and look at wat ur fellow atheists and muslims are doing there.
If nairaland is an anti christian forum, kindly and boldly put it in a write up , we would gladly stop complaining

No need to enlighten him! What will come on him will be great.

Nairaland will come and go the owner won't be known again.

Let him keep antagonizing d church. Remember the story of Saul in the Bible...

Hey Asshole/stupid! Conventionally there's no answer to a dumb question or post. However since you really insist on one, then here it is: It is not just only a sin but quite a very stupid lame move to drop an empty envelope in an offering box. Even a child wouldn't do that. Hope you are satisfied now! grin grin grin

WORLDPEACE:

In the congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses there is no offering time. There are contribution boxes where a person who wants to contribute money to the advancement of the work of the organization can drop his contribution. And that is never done during service. You can walk to drop your money before or after service. No body announces special time to do that. They are careful not to embarrass anyone into donating. Of course, there is no tithing and when anyone donates under no condition is it ever announced. In fact, if that were to happen it would attract punishment. And for the thirty years I was a member, I never saw it happen. Nigerian Pentecostals can't imagine this but this is done in many churches abroad. The commercialism in Pentecostalism is irritating. The people need to realise that they are blind and their pastors love them that way.

Yours and the guy that posted on the Lutheran revolution are the best posts so far.

Appreciate it.

How to get my countrymen to reason in blocks of logic evades me yet I feel it's a task that must be done.

At least for you to have asked this question, shows you have a conscience.

As most people already said, its better you don't drop anything or briefly excuse yourself when its being collected, than deceive people in the house of the Lord.
God sees your heart that you don't have, so don't be ashamed of it.

Everyone commenting on this thread has been broke before and will still be broke at some point in the future. Its normal and no one is immune to it.
