The churches have hypnotized their members to the extent that they cannot think properly and apply Bible principles. Poor gullible members!

I wonder what Christianity is turning to this day. Some Pastors have turned this into their personal business when it is supposed to be for God

Everybody is just against Pastors forgetting that they are not the originators of the first fruits
The first fruits started in the bible days, even now and not even in the days of Jesus

Ex 23:19 The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.
Le 2:14 And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the LORD, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears.
Le 23:17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
Pr 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

God gave specifications through his prophets, that's to show you the importance of the first fruit and he specifically stated that it should be given to the prophet, so, which one is your own about giving to the pastor or the pastor asking for it. If the pastor can talk about any other subject, how much more about the firstfruits.
I'm not aware he forces anybody to give, it is a thing of choice in as much as God demands for it.
Any bible believing church should preach firstfruits
I give my firstfruits, it is not the first or second and neither will it be the last
It is my money remember
At this point i have read it in the bible with my two eyes so it is not whether pastor says so or not, i just give it
abi the bible na lie!

[size=15pt]
FALSE PROPHETS!

I THOUGHT JESUS HAD COME TO FULFILL THE OLD LAWS YOU ARE QUOTING, EHN?

DONT LISTEN TO FALSE PEOPLE. THEY ARE HYPROCRITES AND APOSTATES. GOD DOES NOT, I REPEAT NEVER AND NEVER WILL NEED YOUR MONEY

for those whose believe that redemption lies in giving, giving churches the money they earn they only fool theirselves. in the dispensation of grace, there is nothing like first fruit. i challenge all the so called supporters of first fruit to point to any part of the new testament that talks about first fruit?

I can't see any cash in your quotation above, only agricultural products.
Please take my advice:  Anyone who asks for your money quoting  the bible and promising some 'blessing' in the future is by definition committing advance fee fraud!!

Maybe some pastors holy books states 'first salary' and not first fruit. Fruit is harvested from the farms and orchads. People should be encouraged to embrace agriculture so that there will be abundant firsts fruits for all the pastors like first mango, first orange, first cashew, first yam, first cocoa yam, first cassava, first garden egg and even first gworo grin grin grin

Look I do give offerings at Church and I do sow seeds but I dont adhere to the do this at gun point attitude!

Look for a youtube video of the $1000 seed by Todd Coontz or Mike Murdock

What bugs me is that he would preach in a way that only those who sow a seed of $1000 are entitle to such blessing? Then when you think of the lady in the bible who gave 2 items (I cant remember what) and she got the Blessing of the load!!!!

Deuteronomy 18:20-22 (New International Version, ©2010)

20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.

21 You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.

REGARDING ALL TYPES OF GIVING (FIRST FRUIT, TITHE, SEED, BROTHERLY HELP, ALMS, ETC)

JESUS SAID:
Luke 6:38
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

PAUL SAID:
2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

GIVE AS YOU FEEL YOU SHOULD. OR DO NOT GIVE AS YOU FEEL YOU SHOULD NOT.
IT SHOULD NOT BE BY FORCE.

I once said on this blog that our people are being led to believing that the more money you give to the church, the better your path to heaven, especially so when you are contributing to the well-being of the Pastor of Preacher man. What is more terrifying is the inability of these men or women of God to properly account for these funds. Judging from my experience, questioning church leaders on anything that has to do with finances is like questioning God's representative who is believed to be beyond reproached. At the moment, we are experiencing this kind of situation in the religious community of Liberia. Pastors or Preachers are getting wealthier while their members living conditions are getting bad.

Churches in Nigeria play on people’s ignorance, poverty and general despair. They extort money from their members with the promise of prosperity, good health, good life and general wellbeing. This is anchored on the generosity of the believer by sowing seeds (money) that is expected to germinate and leads to prosperity. However, this prosperity is only experienced by the church owners while the congregations wallow in poverty. In Nigeria, a church member embezzled over N40m which he donated to the church, when arrested, the pastor claimed he never sent him to embezzle. My mother - in - law is always a victim of these extortion, even on her sick bed pastors were requesting her monthly contributions.

This is not a concession I ever thought I'd make, having always argued that our problems are caused by atrocious political leadership, but I'm now convinced that this is not the whole picture. For our gullibility (and our willingness to ignore the obvious) is almost unmatched elsewhere. Take the emergence of so-called "churches". These, to any rational observer, are clearly criminal enterprises run by snake-oil salesmen, who care as much about the teachings of Christ as an Innuit does about Tutankhamen's nappies. Yet, although many of their followers are dirt-poor, they don't mind "challenging God" with huge, regular "tithes." And not even the obscenely palatial mansions and private jets acquired with their "tithes" are enough to raise any scintilla of doubt the true purposes of these "tithes."

The same attitude applies to political leadership. Try telling our people that that brand new (if only half-completed) airport or stadium in the regional governor's village serves no useful economic purpose and should never have been built, and you're labelled an enemy of "progress." Or that the selfish machinations of a local political "godfather" are unlikely to result in meaningful employment for young people or a half-decent education for our kids. Alas, duplicity and cunning are considered heroic virtues by our people. And we wonder why we remain mired in misery so long after independence.

The issue of soliciting money in the name of Jesus is not unique to Africa, rather it is a world wide practise. Look at all the Christian non-profit oragnizations present in Africa. What do they do? They solicit money and their founders and CEO earn six figures. The form of Christianity presently practised in Africa has nothing to do with the local cultures but a Western form of Christianity which is heavily loaded with entrepreneurism. The Vatican City was built out of soliciting money from the poor. Mega churches are built by borrowing money from the bank and making the poor souls pay that morgage. The only trur and authentic church is one described in the Acts of The Apostles, meaning that everything was held in common to help the most poor of the community. Church is about business and manupulation. Read Christian books on how to fundraise and you will see that 100% of the church meetings are about raising money and not visiting the sick or caring for the orphans.

Then the concept of contributing towards all sorts of things, including pastors' trips overseas!!! First collection is ordinary offertory , second for building the church or reverend's house, , third for Charity (caritas) , fourth is tithe , by that time you are so upset you wanna get the blessing and leave!!!

I can afford to go to church simply because I give tithe when I feel like it and certainly won't be coerced into giving. When I go to church, it is to pray in peace not to be a member, or to hear any preaching that they don't practice or get a blessing from any human being. It is interesting to see how we Africans get unhappy with our politicians but refuse to see the evil done in the name of god. In which case, the blame lies entirely on the congregation as they provide the platform for these so called men of god to bully and abuse those who put their trust into them. The question is, do people really have to go to such churches to prove their Christianity, does god need a middle man to be reached. In my view, the answer is no in both cases.

I marvel when I hear Pentecostal Pastors ask their congregation for Tithe. Tithe is an Old Testament Law, and Numbers 18; 21 says that it is meant for the upkeep of Priests and Levites and work in the Tabernacle. These new churches do not believe in the work done in the Tabernacle and yet they pull Tithing out of the hat! Church members need to wisen up and "test all things" as the Bible tells us to. When we start doing that, things will change, and our churches will probably start doing more of the transformative job we expect of them.

Hmm, this is quite interesting and although I do not like debating or arguing about God, Religion, Church and other believes, I have to contribute to this . I remember quite clear at the age of 9 before moving with my family from Kenya to Germany that our pastor was someone you looked up to. That is almost 16 years ago. He was a great man who cared about the society, the needy ones and always counted himself and his family last. Maybe it's due to my age that I misunderstood this or he was really real back in the days. However, after I came back for a visit 5 years later obviously a lot of things had changed, especially the pastor who just returned from the united states with his family(later found out they travel every three months). The small church that used to be quite decent, turned to be a big hall full with fancy new things. I saw him and his wife and kids. They stood out of the crowd with their fashionable clothes and jewelery, and not to forget the two silver and black Mercedes that were parked outside the church. One for him and the other one for his wife, because on that day they had visitors from the states. The fact that even the old house they used to live in, which was quite beautiful, became to small was another reason for me to start doubting. All in all, I just realized after having a few conversation with some people who have been going to church ever since, that the pastor became rich through preaching. This may sound offending, but remembering how my aunt used to expect us to give even the last shilling in our pocket to the collection, made me really angry. From that day I started doubting going to church(though other incidents contributed to that as well, but that's another topic) and told myself I can read the bible and I can preach myself. I can help myself. God gave me the ability and I will use it! I did a gap year in Ghana and sad enough, it was even worse over there. The same market women who struggle from Monday to Saturday with only a few Cedis in their pocket would go and give all that money to the collection, in the believe God will double that amount. Not knowing God has nothing to do with this and it's the pastor who is benefiting. I believe that keeps most of the people going though, thinking their money is used wisely,

i totally agree with comments from richardk, Julu Swen, Akpan and Johnsky2010. I wish there was a way to make the people realise that 90 percent of the pastors in Africa are in these positions to make themselves rich.

They have copied so much from the western prosperity pastors and have taken advantage of their own people. As africans, we are born already believing in something and the poverty and lack of proper medical access causes people to easily believe the false teachings the pastors preach.

Every Pastor claims to heal and claims every person will be rich but we must all saw a seed and that means MONEY! Money!. when healing or success does not come, the person´s faith is blamed as the reason why the healing and or success did not come. Often the people are told the blessing will come "soon" and until that "soon" comes, more and more money must be given. The pastors benefit from such teachings and they all know, they will never be held accountable for their misleading practices.

my own father claimed to heal and claimed he had the power to prophesy in the life of people. He failed to heal my brother that died of cancer. We lived in the biggest house ever and we drove the best cars. We went to foreign schools whilst our housekeepers earned the worst pay, they tithed in his church, giving almost all they earned to have a better future for their children. His ministry grew to a mega church. I hope I can one day write and expose his practises, but if only I had the talent to write.

I hope him and all pastors like my father will be punished for their crime.

I hope that the next HAVE YOUR SAY will feature ways in which to stop these propserity theologians from stealing the little that is left from people with little to no hope. and Yes it is expensive to go to church.

My experience with Nigeria churches in the last 15 years has been that there are two broad categories of churches; the pentacostal (or 'the end of days', as I prefer to call them), and the conservative orthodox churches (these are the ones founded/established in the early 1900's)

I have worshiped in the two over the years and recorgnize two fundamental differences when it comes to financial matters. 'End of days' churches are usually run by central strong figure (sometimes assisted by family members or a select few assistants)The drive for financial contributions from members is fierce and innovative. The usual maxim is, the more you bring the more your blessings. Accountability is almost non existent. ordinary members have little or no idea how the money is spent, but give anyway as they seek the bountiful blessings from God. Handsome rewards await the generous giver, they would often repeat

The orthodox churches are run pretty much the same way the Europeans taught our fathers and their fathers before them. They are more democratic, with leaders chosen through elections and local churches run majorly through periodically elected non clergy (or elders). Financial records are, in the churches I have attended, open for scrutiny and debated at least once a year. Offerings are sometimes requested for specific projects and committees run them.

You may think that the orthodox churches will have the most number of followers due to the relatively transparent ways they are being run. No. Attendance are declining because usually little or no sermons on prosperity is given. People are not promised 'handsome returns' for their money. And like the stock market boom and bust in Nigeria teaches us, people are more likely to rush to equities (churches) with the most prospect of spiritual returns with no questions asked.

Any other contribution in the Church , is voluntary. There should be no pressure about wether you give or do not give once you pay your thites and offerings accordingly. Your Thite is 10 percent of any income you make. Your offering is any amount you think you want to give to God for the operation of the church among other things. Good reading. Thanks

if we complain about the things we see, that are patently wrong, you people will say we should not talk, or talk to the pastor like he didnt know what he was doing beforehand

even better you say we should leave the church and go elsewhere.

if we stay at home jeje, alone looking for no one's trouble, you will come knocking on the door, shouting in buses, at the rooftops, accusing us and imploring us to come to these same churches and pastors.

Tell me where he give a seed to Preacher?

God is the author of all wealth and abundance. Everything He created has a built-in, preprogrammed
potential to manifest abundance. For man, God did the programming in the
book of Genesis:
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth
and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over
every living thing that moves on the earth.” Gen. 1:28

Just like God spoke to everything else when He brought them into existence, He spoke the
ability to manifest abundance into the man He created so that he can continue to
propagate abundance in the universe.

Look around you. There’s abundance everywhere. There’s no shortage of air to breathe.
It’s more than enough for everyone. There’s no shortage of water in most parts of the
world, though we’re doing our best to pollute and render it unusable. Do you know how
many blood vessels you have in your body? Enough to circle the world 3 times if placed
one after the other! Abundance; Sheer abundance!

Here’s the interesting part. The abundance is mostly hidden from the common view. You
don’t find wealth lying around and asking to be taken. Most of the wealth you see were
once buried deep in the earth—gold, oil, silver, diamond. And this is just the physical
side of wealth.

Wealth itself is a spiritual concept. It can be gained spiritually and it can also be lost
spiritually. There are spiritual laws governing all wealth. Understanding these laws and
working them can give you a head start and an advantage over others who are just
running around carnally seeking wealth to consume upon their lusts.

It is possible to become wealthy by worldly means but such wealth would become a
destroyer and diminish over time. It is also possible to acquire wealth by godly means
and such wealth tends to increase and generate even more abundance.
Let’s look at a few Scriptures:

Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will
increase. Prov. 13:11

As many of u critics criticising 2 get unnecessary attentions 4 ur selves,i wan2 tell u all 2 watch ur mouths,or face the spiritual consequences,
No matter how smart a microscopic few of u are,u can never be smarter and wiser than the over 2billion christians worldwide who practice Biblical beliefs,
my Bible makes me understand dat the power of life and death is in the tongue, and Jesus also speaking in Matthew, said that "by your words ye are justified and by your words ye are condemned".
my advice 2 every single one of you who think the best way to display intellectualism is to com 2 NL and make all sorts of attrocious comments about anointed men of God who are simply carrying out Biblical instructions and principles,is to keep mum and watch,or face the terrible consequence of blaspheming the Holy Spirit of  God,4 u are in no capacity to judge them.
I am not saying there are no false pastors(ev[/b][/b][/b]en Jesus warned us of them)u just mind ur business, nobody will force money outta ur pocket.and leave judgement and punishment 2 God.[/b]

Really, there is not a single reason to argue over this thread. Firstfruit is scriptural and not a pastor's mind working wrongly.
Also, firstfruit is not just your January allowance. It could be from salary increase, income from a new business, the best and it could even be given in the month of June or December depending on the individual
In as much as it is scriptural, no body will force you to give it, you are only encouraged to do so because God says so but if you decide not to fine, it's your problem and not your pastors'
I've given my firstfruit not once not twice. i've given of my allowance, of my increase and the best as well

@alaper, your advice is far from needed. You don't get it, nobody is advising me to do it. I don't need such an advice
I have experienced the miraculous because of my firstfruits, its a principle that works

Alas, duplicity and cunning are considered heroic virtues by our people.

Jesus said at the end of the age, the volume of prophecy that we
prophesied, or the amount of preaching that we preached would not reward us. It will
simply be:

“when I was hungry you gave me to eat, when I was naked, you gave me clothes to wear,
when I was sick you visited (ministered to) me and so on and so forth.

If that’s the case,  I wonder what the Lord will tell the lady who donated £1.3bn to Salvation Army (not a church) on that day! And I also wonder what He will tell some Christians who are too afraid to manifest abundance, not knowing that it hinders their fruitfulness in the kingdom of God. It will be really
interesting on that day!

Therefore, for those who are unwilling or unable to update their thinking about true wealth to fit the biblical position, we would humbly suggest that they at least allow some Christians who are brave enough to learn to acquire wealth using godly principles under God, the author of all wealth and abundance.

God wants to be actively involved in re-distributing the wealth of the earth in these end
times. And He’s going to do that through the Church. The Church is going to become,
once again, the major distribution point of God’s wealth on the earth. That’s because the
end time purposes of God will need tons of money to accomplish, and the wealth is His
anyway.

Here’s the LORD’s strategy:

I will go before you
And make the crooked places straight;
I will break in pieces the gates of brass
And cut the bars of iron
I will give you the treasures of darkness
And hidden riches of secret places,
That you may know that I, the LORD,
Who call you by your name,
Am the God of Israel Isa.45:2-3

I want you to especially notice that word ‘gates’ in the passage above, for it is the end
time key into the realm of abundance that has never been experienced by the Church
before!

All that you’ve seen so far is child’s play, a drop in the bucket!
Before you can enter into this dimension that the LORD is talking about, there are some
gates that need to be destroyed. To some folks, it might not mean anything that the richest
man on the planet for several years now goes by that same name. Sometimes, God uses
physical things to teach us spiritual lessons. If you’d just learn how to pray the kind of
prayers that target spiritual gates, you’d be amazed to find yourself in a realm of
abundance that you never dared dream of!

It is simply a Biblical teaching and it only works with faith not under compulsion, threat  or blackmail. The truth of the matter is that a lot of Christians  do not study the Bible to understand the principles and doctrines governing the universe and so fail to act according to proper instructions. They are swayed by all kinds of stuff and yet go ahead to make complaints and cry wolf when there's none.

Job was the first millionaire in the Bible. He was also a righteous man. He fell on hard
times, lost everything but his faith and trust in God. A time came for God to restore him
and we read this strange prescription:

And so it was, after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, that the LORD said to
Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is excited against you and your two friends, for you
have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.
Now therefore, take for yourself seven bull and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and
offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I
will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken
of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.” Job 42:7-8

What happened when Job prayed?

And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave
Job twice as much as he had before Job 42:10

A certain king was ignorantly trying to take Abraham’s wife, Sarah, from him. But the
Lord was not happy about this and He began to punish the king’s household with
barrenness. Then He appeared to the king in a dream and instructed him to restore
Abraham’s wife.
Here’s the instruction:
Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and
you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all
who are yours Gen 20:7

That king was wise. He did more than just restore Abraham’s wife. Here’s what he did:
Then Abimelech took sheep, oxen, and male and female servants, and gave them to
Abraham; and he restored Sarah his wife to him. Gen.20: 14

He also gave Abraham money, lots of it. These two millionaires
prayed and received abundance in return, though nothing could be further from their
mind at that point in time!
These two example prayers were just to show you that wealth could be released through
specific prayers. In these particular cases, the type of prayer they prayed was for someone
else, and intercessory in nature. Not all of them are like this.
The thing to take away from here, however, is that praying for others is like casting your
bread upon the waters, and you can’t always tell in what form it’d come back. This
“casting your bread” principle is also the foundation of all wealth and abundance.
Let’s see some phenomenal demonstrations by two masters of the game.

Why all the church hate on NL? I mean I understand that some churches are just money mills, but seriously, its getting out of hand here. Every little thing, on front page.

Ridiculous.
