What is this one even saying?

Like how dumb is this post. So what will you say about Airtel (owned by India) and MTN (owned by South Africa) that have been here for ages?

We need to use our brains before posting
I'm sorry if this would be rude, you don't know much about Intl politics. The guy is correct. This move from Orange is all about monitoring. I don't expect us to be dumb

I am not offended at all. You care to explain better for those of us not politically and sociologically inclined?

It is very easy. They can decide to start from the middle by buying up an existing firm. Say, take over 9mobile or Mtel and pump in a lot of money, other big telcos will feel it wella.
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by Ajsmart(m): 2:31am On Jun 16, 2020
Orange will hit the jackpot because the Nigerian market is bigger than that of the top 3 European market combined though Nigerians themselves can’t see rhis, smh. The 2nd colonisation of Nigeria has been set in motion and it’s citizens won’t benefit from it, smh!!

Look beyond your nose. No such thing as a saturated market. They have been in the game for long time. Hence, they will bring new innovation
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by JBRichard(m): 6:12am On Jun 16, 2020
What do you mean by they do not have any competition? undecided or u never see MTN, GLO, Airtel and 9mobile?
I see no sense here?
Nbote:

Wat is saturated about d Nigerian market for example? These networks know dey do not really have any competition dats y dey can afford to run their customer base anyhow.. The only problem dey will have to contend with is d frustration from the govt
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by JBRichard(m): 6:20am On Jun 16, 2020
Many of you are just saying that if they come
1. There'll be superb internet speed
2. Very cheap data plans
3. Theyll frustrate MTN
My broda, they won't just come now and network will be all over Nigeria. It'll take up to 10 years before the network will circulate. I'll advise you to keep the network provider you are using.
By the way, do you really think MTN will sit and allow some foreign mobile network provider to come and take over their African business. This is where you'll see GLO (especially) data proves become so cheap. Believe me, the way GLO dashes data for such an insane cheap price...... Anyways, Mark my words!!!
SavageMaster:

The market is not saturated.

If they offer better and maybe cheaper calls, plus superb internet at reasonable price, then many people will port to their side.

The market is far from being saturated.

COMPAQ:

Won't they make profit? Are they here to dash you cheap data? The same issue the other networks suffer will hamper them as well. Poor electricity, vandalism, difficulty in accessing right of way, etc.

And besides telecoms services in Nigeria is actually cheap. One of the cheapest telecoms services I have found in Yankee is Mint Mobile.

https://www.mintmobile.com/plans/

$15 for 3Gb.while call and sms is free within US, we all know that data is what really matters now. $15 is N6000k. In all networks in Nigeria, Lagos N5k gets me like 10 Gb to 20Gb.

On EE in UK £15 gets you 5Gb. So don't know where this misconception of cheap everything abroad for unlimited data keeps coming from?

https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only/pay-monthly-data?CTTag=CT_Sal_PAYMDataPlans_PAYMSIMO_Q1_2019

While speeds in Nigeria are not the best, I have also found speeds in many areas of Houston to be inconsistent. High in some areas and like Naija speeds in others. And the issue in Nigeria is beyond the networks. Its partly due to poor operating environment.

you are not going to see the real picture if you just start comparing prices. better still, a better way would be to see how large the percentage of these data price is to the average income earned by that region just like some article on nairaland some days ago discussed. affordability is what's being discussed not just outright pricing

Saturated market?

You don't seem to know about the global telecommunication industry.

There isn't no saturation with telecommunication....innovation and pricing are what makes it thick.

Telecommunication options are still very few here yet.

Seriously but what do I know
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by bigiyaro(m): 8:39am On Jun 16, 2020
edoairways:

One reason why orange may not progress far is the power of the market leader MTN. Yes they may offer mouth watering freebies to attract more customers however that may change should MTN come up with better offer. Customers benefit on the short run but on the long run Orange may loose out. The base stations in Nigeria are few, if orange offer unlimited calls, their network may crash. Infact there will be poor network delivery from all the service providers
I don't think that's gonna happen, check the price of data and calls in India, its far more better and cheaper, its not as if mtn will not make profit with cheaper calls and data, greed plays a big part in their game, i trust that orange as a world class company can compete or take on mtn anytime, anywhere.

Unlimited data plan with few base stations? We are still struggling with poor internet service from the current service providers

Don't forget, Nigeria (and Africa in general) are markets with millions of people with very low purchasing power.

With good pricing strategy and unique products, like what Glo did with per second billing, new entrant telecommunication firms could give already established ones a run for their money.

For instance, imagine a new telecommunication company making refunds on dropped calls; topnotch voice quality; efficient data service; automatically rolls back unused data to customers (i.e. removing duration to purchased data) etc.

Government officials would be more appropriate.

The official Nigerian system and constitution isn't very difficult.

The difficulty in the country is the people in charge of interpreting and executing the constitution. They are greedy, self-centered and have virtually no public interest at heart.

Irrespective of their religion or tribe, a typical Nigerian in government work doesn't know the difference between his salary and public funds.

Exactly... Everyone in public office finds a way to monetize their positions

I get what you are saying. But my point is that a product cannot be cheaper than it's cost. The real issue is the low purchasing power of Nigerians.

Having said that, my driver spends more time on the phone than me. I find it very surprising that drivers, house helps etc tend to spend a lot of time on the phone. I often wonder where all the credit is coming from.
