You need to understand the dynamics of what Christianity is all about. It is not a religion, but a relationship and the cornerstone of any relationship is communication. And the corneratone of communication is focus and fidelty.

If you are talking to me face to face and I am either not listening or not responding then it is obvious I am either disinterested or distracted. Whatever be the case the relationship is certainly not advancing.

To commumicate with God you need your mind focused, pointed in the direction where you expect signals to come from and dialed into His frequency.

Everything in this world definitely will not contribute to our spiritual growth. The food we eat will only aid growth physically, the school we attend will only help us intellectually, the gym we register for can only affect our physique and health. If these things do not help us grow spiritually does that make them bad or sinful ? The answer is no, if some few secular songs can awaken us to societal challenges and we take it upon ourselves to mitigate these challenges with well thought out frameworks and long term solutions; then I see no reason not to listen to more of these songs.

A major stumbling block that has been around for years is Africa’s spiritual approach to physical problems. A child doesn’t know mathematics, we take the child to church for prayers, like really Government is not performing, we pray about it but don’t act on it.

Listening to secular music affects my spiritual growth, so I deleted all and left only gospel music. How can I intercede for myself when I'm always listening to worldly sexual perverted music.

Although i know that there are music or movies especially that one should avoid but i opine that it is not enough to ride all secular music and movies off.

I don't too much like to enngage in argument, but I still want to put somethings clear to you. Songs are written with words and words are powerful. When you begin to say them, it is a confession you are making and whatever you say register in your spirit. The bible said , there are no idle words (Matthew 12:37) . Words also act as Prophecy. With thy words, thy shall be justified and by thy words thou shall be condemned. You also became a Christian through words confession, Romans 10:9-10. God created the whole world with words and the bible also said , the word became flesh and dwelt among us. Words are so powerful and can influence our lives greatly. Think about Dagrin songs and what happened to him . Jim Reeves, " this words is not my own..I am just passing by (he died in a plane crash , he was passing by when he died). I have not had light for about 4 months so I normally go to a barber shop to charge my gadgets. They always play so many worldly songs on radio (i hardly listen to radio especially at night because of some kind of music. Anyway, that's for me , am not saying don't listen) . Few weeks later i noticed some songs will just come out of my mouth unconsciously, and sometimes I begin to sing them in my mind. That was not normal for me. I didn't pay attention to those songs , all I was interested in was to power my gadget. But those songs have been registering in my spirit for long. You are what you eat. Some people that have body odour is because of the kind of food they eat. To curb that, they have to change their diet. A song is not a Christian song because it was composed by a Christian. We are called to show forth God's praise. Erroneously, some of you think Allah means God. Thank God we're on nairaland, and they have made it clear that Allah does not mean God. Before you comment on Muslims posts on nairaland, you will be told to renown God and Jesus , say that you belong to Allah. The Muslims faithful know that but the Christians fail to know this. Just try and comment on Muslims topics on nairaland. To help you understand the meaning of Allah(you erroneously believe that it an Arabic word for God), study : "who's this Allah" (download the book ). Lastly, the bible said we are like Christ. As he is , so are we. So ask yourself one question : would Jesus sing same songs to edify himself?

I think it depends more on the individual....they are people who their love for Christ is unshakable no matter what they see or hear....for me I stop watching movies except sports or listen to secular music not too long ago....because whenever I watch or listen to them,especially the erotic parts...it affect my work with Christ...I began to have all sort of erotic thought...

PS: it is impossible to listen or watch some secular music or movie without any erotic affiliations nowadays...
