That the reality but I won't say it not worth studying it though..if one really want to eventually focus on any field in engineering.... He /she will have to get his/her hands really dirty outside studies.. And should most likely connect to well experienced and educated engineers for guardians..
Schools don't teach more than 40% of what makes one an engineer

Nawa o.. meaning Engineering in our university is wack o..

I pushed my bro to change course from Mechanical Engr to Architectural Engr in his jamb, he is admitted now, I just hope I made the best decision for him.

Hello Fellow NLs,
I am a graduate of Electrical Engineering. I graduated three years ago. After my graduation, I worked in a company for a year as sales Engineer. They claimed they would train us hands-on but they didn't.
I am now in search of a company that would train me. I am currently unemployed so no money to go for certificate training. Kindly advise please

As an electrical Engineering graduate with 7yrs experience, I would advise you to start learning lucrative I.T skills

Electrical Engineering will not pay you in the long run

I can't believe you wrote that!

So you think he can raise money sufficiently to even eat by following those electricians..many of them who leave in face me I slap u.
U think those electricians easily get contract to wire a house...dey don't earn more Dan 200k for a full house wiring which is once in months...the normal electrical maintenance fetch them peanuts..and getting contract is strictly.. I repeat strictly based on connections..

In short so u think they will pay him so much to open a full electrical shop...do u even know the cost an electrical shop...u even added opening electrical company...be there hallucinating...
Methuselah's Motivational speaker..

like I said earlier, the advice is not for kids and pessimist like you! You are more interested in the impossible hence you won't see any success there! My suggestions about following electricians is basically for experience like he solicited for! He may not raise money from there, he may also want to move it a step forward as an educated person by seeking for contract from people! He can source for funds in other places as someone who's educated...he can only succeed if he try. For your comments it's obvious that you will suggest for him to go look for a job that will pay him rit...in Nigeria where it's difficult getting a job and even if he succeeds in getting one, the money will still not be enough for him. You are a pessimist that have failed to advise the young man but finds fault in other people's suggestions...I know your type! They feed you at home, am I right?

Go to your church and join the technical department, and you'll learn both electrical and electronics without paying a dime.

This I have seen.

This question is very generic and shows you are actually confused...

Electrical Engineering is a very wide area of Engineering, of which someone needs to specialise in a specific area (Just like General Medicine);
I.e;
Controls systems
Power
Power Electronics
VLSI
Electronics
Telecommunications
I.T
Systems Reliability
Wiring and circuitry
Etc...

The mere fact you asked this question, means you are not even sure of what you want to do as an Electrical engineer...

So which area in Electrical Engineering basically highlights your competencies or piques your interest?

My advice to you, is pick an area and specialise... the rest will fall into place, basically you will automatically gravitate to the right direction, if you specialise.

Sticking to the generic fundamental level of Electrical Engineering limits you to the classroom solving equations.

I need same sort of help but I specialize on industrial power and motor Controls. Currently residing in Port Harcourt

Any way you could be of aid would be deeply appreciated.

I made that comment because am into electricals and it not as easy as u put it..
He is better off getting a job and saving...
It takes years of experience and strong referrals to be get sustainable contracts...it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he is educated....something a female who knows nothing about engineering wouldn't know...

look at this one, the advice is not for kids! If it's easy then everyone should have made it.... design what you want for yourself and pursuit vigorously! It's all God that blesses people's destiny! Sleep on your bed and expect it will be easy. Those electricians didn't go to school and it's not also easy for them....if you are looking for where it's easy then join yahoo
Which kain yahoo easy..e no easy o..nature don talk am, the greater ur brain usuage the better your earning.

Mobile phone repair falls under this category. Carlcare in Ikeja have a training program for smart phone repairs which is strictly hands-on.

Anywhere you are in Nigeria, walk up to Transmission Company of Nigeria. Try and get into Protection Control and Metering (PC&M) department as an intern, once you let them know it is knowledge you need and not money, na you go tire....I give you six months to one year, you will be proud you did Electrical Engineering. You will learn a lot about control drawings, modern relays and circuitry among others that will be useful for you in other industries as well as if you think of staying on your own later .
