*DATE:* MONDAY, 20TH JUNE, 2022
*THEME:* LIVING WORTHY OF THE DIVINE CALLING

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4: 1-3

*BIBLE READING:* (KJV)

1. I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2. With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3. Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

*MESSAGE:*

Every calling as a soldier, banker, nurse, etc., demands codes of conduct that distinguished their members. Some of these codes are depicted by colours of uniforms, speech and work patterns. Similarly, we have a divine calling to become God’s children. 1 Peter 2:9 states that we are called to be a royal priesthood and a holy nation called into His marvelous light to show forth His praises.

Today’s passage enjoins us to live worthy of this great calling and outlines expected codes of conduct including humility, gentleness, lack of selfishness, patience, tolerance, love, eagerness to protect the unity of the body of Christ as well as functioning in accordance to the measure of God’s gift in our lives. It is unfortunate that some Christians do not adhere to these codes of conduct. In their families, kindred, workplace and church they display pride, selfishness, hatred, disunity, ethnicity as well as opposition to the word of God. As a result, the name of God is maligned and blasphemed among the Gentiles (Rom. 2:24). What a shame! God’s fiery judgment awaits such people. Jesus stated clearly that if you cause people to stumble, it would be better to have you drowned with a millstone round your neck (Matt.18:6 & Rom.14:12). Evaluate yourself today. Do you live such a life? Please repent and live worthy of your great calling before it is too late.

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, please help my life to be worthy of Your calling so that Your name will not be blasphemed. _*Amen*_

*QUOTE FOR THE DAY:*

_"When you walk through the fires of adversity, you will not be burned."_ _*Isaiah 43:2*_

*DATE:* TUESDAY, 21ST JUNE, 2022
*THEME:* UNITY OF BELIEVERS

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4: 4-6

*BIBLE READING:* (KJV)

4. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

*MESSAGE:*

Believers are people who have put their faith in Jesus Christ and have surrendered their lives to Him through repentance. Through this process, they become born again and form the church - the body of Christ. The church therefore is made up of people of different nationalities, cultures, languages and colour, with Jesus as the head.

Apostle Paul in today’s text drew the attention of the Ephesian Christians to the need to be united. This unity is based on the truth that they share one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and one father in common. By implication, every believer is a part of this body and cannot exist and function exclusively. Often times, believers allow minor differences in doctrines and their individualities to work against this unity. This ought not to be; rather we must work for unity by expressing true love, peace, patience as well as forgiveness.
How do you foster the unity of believers in your church or fellowship group? God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one and work in unity to achieve divine purpose. Let us therefore emulate our Father to also achieve this divine mandate.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, please use me to build Your Church in unity. _*Amen.*_

*DATE:* WEDNESDAY, 22ND JUNE, 2022
*THEME:* GRACE GIVEN TO EACH ONE OF US

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4: 7-11

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

7. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10. He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

*MESSAGE:*

In order to foster the unity and growth of the church, grace has been given to every believer. This grace is a special ability that enables every member to work for the strengthening of the church. When Christ ascended into heaven after His resurrection, He released these gifts and apportioned them by the Holy Spirit to his children (v.cool. In His wisdom, He called people into different offices to serve as:
*1. Apostles:* These people are sent to proclaim the gospel and also serve as church leaders
*2. Prophets:* Chosen to communicate God’s message to the church and sometimes unveil future events
*3. Evangelists:* This group proclaims the gospel and harvests ripe souls for God’s kingdom
*4. Pastors:* They are gifted to teach the word of God correctly, etc.

We must note that these gifts are not independent but inter-related; for example, when an evangelist wins souls, a pastor is needed to teach the word of God to disciple the souls. When an Apostle starts new churches, he can also disciple them as a pastor and even function as a prophet to communicate the mind of God as the Spirit wills. Today’s reading challenges us to use our God-given grace to build the church. We are saved to serve. Have you identified the grace given to you? How are you using it?

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, may I never use this grace in vain! _*Amen.*_

*DATE:* THURSDAY, 23RD JUNE, 2022
*THEME:* THE PURPOSE OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4: 12-16

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13. Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14. That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16. From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

*MESSAGE:*

In our reading yesterday, we saw the gifts Christ gave believers to exercise in His church. These gifts are not for individuals to personalise or make merchandise of; rather they are for common use in the body of Christ. Today’s text states clearly the purpose of the gifts which include:
1. To equip the church for service in order to fulfil the great commission, and
2. To edify the body of Christ and build it to maturity.

The operation of spiritual gifts in the church is a continuous process and will result in unity of faith. Members will also gradually attain to the full standard of Christ, become stable in faith, and not easily carried away by every wind of doctrine. Today false teachings and prophecies abound with their attendant deadly but cleverly invented stories and sugar-coated messages. Many have already fallen prey; this shall not be our portion. However, we must ask God to equip His saints with these gifts if they are not available in our groups and to also enable us to operate them (v.15). This will encourage us to speak the truth, and in love. How do you communicate: In love, in lies or harshly?

*PRAYER:*
Lord help us Lord to identify our gifts and exercise them in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

*DATE:* FRIDAY, 24TH JUNE, 2022
*THEME:* THE BIRTH AND MINISTRY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST

*TEXT:* LUKE 1:57-66, 80

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

57. Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
58. And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.
59. And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60. And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
61. And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
63. And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.
64. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.
65. And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
66. And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

80. And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

*MESSAGE:*

John the Baptist was a great prophet of God who heralded the coming of Jesus Christ and baptised Him. His birth and name came by angelic pronouncement to his father who doubted and became dumb as a punishment, for a season. His parents - Zacharias and Elizabeth - were barren but God’s word by Angel Gabriel came true. The word of God for your life in any area you have been waiting shall come true soon in Jesus’ name! At his naming ceremony, Zacharias’ relations wanted to name him after his father but his mother insisted that he would be called John - the name given by the angel. Zacharias confirmed this name by writing it down. Thereafter, he instantly received healing and could talk. The action of this couple to do God’s will is a challenge to many couples today. Do you always agree with your spouse on God’s instructions or are you swayed by culture, fear, status quo and unbelieving relatives and colleagues?

Note that the hand of God was upon John as he grew. He waited and prepared himself in the desert before his manifestation (vv. 66 & 80). It is important that we wait on God and prepare our lives before jumping out to manifest. He who called you knows when, how and where to announce you!

*PRAYER:*

Dear Father, the grace to wait on You I seek.

*THEME:* PUT OFF THE OLD MAN

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4:17-22

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

17. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18. Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19. Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20. But ye have not so learned Christ;
21. If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22. That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

*MESSAGE:*

The life of every believer is made up of the old and the new man. The old man refers to the sinful life and habits once lived in before repentance while the new life refers to the present life a believer lives in Christ after conversion. Both lives have their different characteristics and are in conflict with each other. Paul in his letter to the Ephesian Christians, urged them not to live again like other Gentiles who were blind in their hearts, without God and controlled by the passion to sin. He told them that their encounter with Jesus who is the truth has made them new and created a difference. However, the new man can only thrive and function when the old man of immorality, hatred, unforgiveness, lies, etc., is put off.

To every believer, putting off requires a personal decision on a daily basis (enabled by the Holy Spirit), to let the old man die. Then, the new man will take over as we grow in grace and in the knowledge of God. Is there any old sinful life/habit you have retained in your life? Put it off now. Jesus says in Matthew 9:17 that men pour new wine into new wineskins and both are preserved.

*PRAYER:*
Father, the grace to live daily in the newness of my life is my desire.

TOPIC: KNOWING THIS

✝️TEXT: Romans 6:3-11 (NKJV)

3. Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
4. Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be [in the likeness] of [His] resurrection,
6. knowing this, that our old man was crucified with [Him,] that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
7. For he who has died has been freed from sin.
8. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
9. knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
10. For [the death] that He died, He died to sin once for all; but [the life] that He lives, He lives to God.
11. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

✝️️STUDY: A popular secular adage says “knowledge is power.” Jesus in John 8:32, said “…you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Against this backdrop, Paul emphasised the need for every believer to know the truth about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and its effect over sin.

What are these truths? They are: 1. Our baptism in Christ shows that we died, got buried with Him and resurrected to a new life, just as Christ died, got buried and resurrected to life (vv. 3-4); 2. Our old sinful life was crucified with Him on the cross, therefore, we died to sin and are freed from the power of sin (vv. 6-7); 3. Christ was crucified, died once for all and resurrected to destroy the power of sin and enable us to live for God (vv. 9-10).

We must therefore know that the power of sin on the believer has been totally destroyed. Christ paid the ransom with His life to set us free. This knowledge must be absorbed into our blood stream to prevent us from going back to our old life of sin. The new life and sin are mutually exclusive. Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 and consider yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ!

✝️ PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank You for granting us victory over sin. Amen.

TOPIC: PUT ON THE NEW MAN

✝️TEXT: Ephesians 4:23-27 (NKJV)

23. and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24. and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
25. Therefore, putting away lying, ["Let] each one [of you] speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.
26. "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
27. nor give place to the devil.

✝️️STUDY: The instruction to put off the old man was stressed in our reading last Saturday. Today, another instruction to put on the new man is given to believers. If there is a “putting off”, then there must be a “putting on” for life abhors a vacuum. What then shall we put on? It is the new man created in God’s likeness of righteousness and holiness. In putting on the new man, we must do the following: 1. Stop lying and speak the truth to one another. It is very clear that lying destroys trust and breaks down relationships (v.25) 2. Control our anger by dealing with it immediately. It should not be bottled up to degenerate into bitterness.

Offences must come among Christians but we should handle them promptly (v. 26); 3. Refuse to give the devil any opportunity to operate. His mission remains to steal, kill and destroy (v.27).The characteristics of the new man are obvious: Love, goodness, kindness, gentleness, self-control, faithfulness, etc., and cannot be hidden. These days, we see people who profess Christ but express the old man. This is unfortunate and an error. Let people around you see the new man you are putting on and glorify God.

✝️ PRAYER: O! Lord, create a yearning in me to always put on the new man for your glory so that I can profess and express Christ to others. Amen.

*DATE:* TUESDAY, 28TH JUNE, 2022 *THEME:* STEAL NO MORE

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4: 28-29

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

28. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

*MESSAGE:*

Apostle Paul exhorted the Ephesian Christians on the proper conduct expected of them. According to him, a new man has an encounter with Christ and is expected to bear fruits that befit his new life. A strong charge highlighted in our text is to STOP STEALING. Stealing simply means to take another person’s property without his permission or legal right and without the intention to return it. It includes stealing of ideas, musical compositions, technological software, publications, skill, sermons or presentations, documents to implicate people, etc., without acknowledgement or reference to the original owner. Today, we see people steal such things from others, institutions, government and even the church. To the world, it is a game or being smart, but to a new man, it is sin. Have you been involved in any kind of stealing? Then you must repent, steal no more, but work with your hands. God will bless you, so that you can give generously to others.

Verse 29 charges us as believers to be mindful of our speech. On this note, no foul/corrupt language or gossip should proceed out of our mouths. We are therefore encouraged to speak that which can build and encourage one another. We must represent our Lord Jesus here on earth and influence the world positively by our conduct.

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, please let my light shine to influence the world for You. *Amen.*

*DATE:* WEDNESDAY, 29TH JUNE, 2022 *THEME:* ON THIS ROCK, I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH

*TEXT:* MATTHEW 16:13-19

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

13. When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14. And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16. And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

*MESSAGE:*

While on earth, Jesus Christ did not assume that His disciples knew who He is. Therefore, He asked them this question: “Who do men say the son of man is?” Their answers proved to Him that they did not know Him personally. Then came another question “Who do you say that I am?” Peter by divine revelation, answered correctly; “You are Christ, the son of the living God.” Who is Jesus to you? It is possible to be a follower and servant of Christ like the disciples and yet not know him.

In verse 18, Jesus said He would build His church on this Rock and the gates of hell shall not prevail. By implication, – no might can destroy the church of Christ. This Rock refers to JESUS while Peter is the small rock who would later provide church leadership. Though, there are other interpretations linking this rock to Peter but Peter in 1:7 spoke about Christ as the Chief Corner Stone. Secondly, Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:11 talked about no other foundation except the one already laid which is Jesus Christ. Are your life and services being built on this eternal rock? The keys to the kingdom released to Peter is the authority believers have and use to destroy wickedness and also restore lives back to God.

*DATE:* THURSDAY, 30TH JUNE, 2022 *THEME:* DO NOT GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 4:30-32

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

30. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

*MESSAGE:*

The Holy Spirit is the promise made to believers by Christ before His ascension to heaven. This was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when the disciples were baptized with the Holy Spirit and got empowered for service. In John 14:17, Jesus again spoke about Him saying “...The Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know Him for He dwells with you and will be in you.” The Holy Spirit lives inside the believer to teach, guide, inform, comfort, reveal hidden matters, convict, empower for service, etc. His role in the life of a child of God is unquantifiable.

No child of God can function acceptably without Him. He has emotions and operates in an environment of love, gentleness, peace, patience, compassion and forgiveness. If any life does not provide a conducive environment for Him, He becomes grieved and leaves. This was the case with Samson in Judges 16:20. Therefore, put off behaviors like anger, stubbornness, unbelief of any part of God’s word, bitterness, rage, immorality, greed, slander, malice and disobedience from your life, because they will definitely grieve Him. When you put these off, you will enjoy His presence and operations in your life.

*PRAYER:*

Father, may I never grieve Your Holy Spirit with my body, spirit and soul in Jesus’ name, *Amen.*

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

1. And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
2. And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3. And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
4. Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
5. And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
6. And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
7. And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?
8. And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
9. And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
10. And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
11. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
12. I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
13. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
14. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
15. And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
16. This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
17. And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
18. And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

*MESSAGE:*

To murmur is to complain or grumble about a particular unpleasant thing or situation of life. Today’s Bible reading is an account of a particular situation in the life of the Israelites during their journey in the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. While in the wilderness, they murmured and complained about their new situation of life. They remembered how they ate bread and meat in Egypt. Little did they realize that their grumbling was not against Moses and Aaron but against the Lord of hosts, who led them out of Egypt with a strong and outstretched arm (Ps. 136: 10 -12). The Lord heard their murmurings and proved to them that nothing was impossible for Him (Luke 1:37). In the wilderness, a place without hope of food, the Lord provided meat and bread for them to the point of satisfaction (vv. 11 – 15).

Brethren, we live in a world where nothing is permanent. Life and times change in line with the will of the Creator. There is time for everything (Eccl. 3:1). As Christians, we are expected to have faith in God no matter what we are going through. We must realise that tough times never last but tough people do. In all situations, let us cast our cares on Him because He cares for us (2 Pet. 5:7). Murmuring is an expression of unbelief and this will not reveal the supremacy of God over your life and situation. Instead of murmuring or complaining, take time to praise the Lord, count your blessings and name them one by one. You need not to murmur but trust in God from whom comes your help every day (Psalm 121:1ff).

*PRAYER:*
Lord, give me grace to praise You, even when life situations are tough. _*Amen.*_

TOPIC: THE DEPENDABLE GOD

✝️TEXT: Exodus 16: 19-36 (NKJV)

19. And Moses said, "Let no one leave any of it till morning."
20. Notwithstanding they did not heed Moses. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.
21. So they gathered it every morning, every man according to his need. And when the sun became hot, it melted.
22. And so it was, on the sixth day, [that] they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
23. Then he said to them, "This [is what] the LORD has said: 'Tomorrow [is] a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake [today,] and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.' "
24. So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it.
25. Then Moses said, "Eat that today, for today [is] a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field.
26. "Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, [which is] the Sabbath, there will be none."
27. Now it happened [that some] of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none.
28. And the LORD said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?
29. "See! For the LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day."
30. So the people rested on the seventh day.
31. And the house of Israel called its name Manna. And it [was] like white coriander seed, and the taste of it [was] like wafers [made] with honey.
32. Then Moses said, "This [is] the thing which the LORD has commanded: 'Fill an omer with it, to be kept for your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.' "
33. And Moses said to Aaron, "Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations."
34. As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
35. And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.
36. Now an omer [is] one-tenth of an ephah.

✝️️STUDY: In every aspect of life, God is awesome and could be depended upon. From today’s reading, we can deduce that when God instructed that nothing should be gathered till the following morning, the people gathered it in disobedience till the following morning and it bred worms and stank (vv. 19 -20). On the other hand, when God instructed that it should be gathered till the following morning because of Sabbath, the same manna remained fresh, it never bred worms nor became rotten (vv. 23-24). The manna that fell every day, at God’s instruction, stopped on the Sabbath day and continued the following morning (vv. 25-27).

Indeed, nothing is beyond God’s control, including your life. You can depend on Him for intervention and supplies at any point in time. No matter how hard things may be right now, God can handle them and give you reasons to rejoice. He can turn your situations around. All you need to do is to trust Him. If He could provide manna in the wilderness, He can meet your needs today. You will laugh and give testimony of His goodness as you trust in Him.

✝️ PRAYER: Almighty God, let all things work together for my good. Help me to depend on You the more, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

24. But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
29. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

*MESSAGE:*

The number of years spent in church service is not a factor for genuine relationship or sound knowledge of the King of kings. It is possible to be a Church worker or pastor for years, without a living relationship with or knowledge of Jesus as the Saviour of the world. Apostle Thomas had lived and worked with Christ for at least three years. He had listened to faith-based sermons and witnessed many miracles during the earthly ministry of Jesus. Yet he found the resurrection stories too ridiculous to believe. He asserted, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe” (v.25). Eight days after, Jesus appeared again and he confessed Him as “My Lord and my God” (v.28). Then Jesus rebuked him, “Do not be unbelieving but believing” (v.27).

Brethren, as we remember Apostle Thomas today, we must first of all commend his action which authenticates one of the post-resurrection appearances of Jesus Christ. However, let us beware and not fall into the same pit of unbelief like him. Familiarity, they say, breeds contempt. Many are born into Christian families, bear Christian names, are baptised and confirmed, yet they do not have any testimony of genuine salvation. They do not know the Lord as Saviour or have a relationship with Him. Check yourself; are you in the same category as Thomas? Confess your sins today, repent of them, and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour like Apostle Thomas (v.28 cf. John 1:12-13; Rev. 20:15). Give no place to doubt, Jesus will turn your life around.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. *Amen.*

*TEXT:* EXODUS 17:1-7

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

1. And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
2. Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?
3. And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
4. And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
5. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
6. Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7. And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

*MESSAGE:*

Todays’ passage brings before us the incidence of murmuring at the water of Massah and Meribah where the children of Israel angrily put God to test. They murmured against Moses the servant of God, not knowing that they had murmured against God who led them to that location. It was common for the children of Israel to complain and murmur against God and His servants at the slightest uncomfortable situation. This was because they magnified their problems and saw no solution coming from God - a display of unbelief! They were quick to forget that it was God who had been meeting their physical, spiritual and military needs since the commencement of the journey and God saw their murmuring as lack of faith in Him.

As a child of God, be careful not to murmur against God. If God could answer your prayers in the past, He can handle your situations today. Do not murmur but trust Him for the best. Pray about your situation and believe His word. Be careful, for when you think He is so far away; He might be testing your heart and faith in Him. Just trust that He can give you new songs; prayerfully seek His face and keep believing His Word. It shall be well with you.

*PRAYER:*
Lord God, help me to avoid murmuring but trust in You always, in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

8. Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9. And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12. But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14. And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15. And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
16. For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

*MESSAGE:*

Our text today reveals how Aaron and Hur supported the hands of Moses as he held up his rod on the hill while Joshua fought with the Amalekites. During the battle, each time Moses’ hands were up, victory came to Israel and vice versa. This informed the assistance Aaron and Hur rendered to stabilize Moses’ hands. Since it is established that raising and sustaining Moses’ hand gave strength and victory to the Israelite army, it then means both Aaron and Hur were also instrumental to the victory Joshua had over the enemy. They were supporters of Moses’ Ministry.

Some of the lessons learnt from this incident are that:

*(i)* We are expected to place great importance on helping the ministerial work of men of God just like Aaron and Hur helped in stabilizing Moses’ hands. _Doing this has eternal reward and draws God’s blessings_

*(ii)* Servants of God are called to be interdependent and not independent. _They are to assist one another just as Aaron, the priest, upheld the hands of Moses, the prophet of God._

*(iii)* Joshua and his army physically engaged the Amalekites while Moses was supported by Aaron and Hur to facilitate the victory. _This shows a collective responsibility and victory-for-all mentality._

Christians should learn to combine their forces against the enemy of their souls, the devil.

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, make me a blessing to the ministry of Your church, in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

*TEXT:* EXODUS 18: 1-27

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

1. When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
2. Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,
3. And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:
4. And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:
5. And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
6. And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
7. And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.
8. And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.
9. And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10. And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11. Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
12. And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.
13. And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
14. And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
15. And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:
16. When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.
17. And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
18. Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
19. Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
20. And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
21. Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
22. And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
23. If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
24. So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
25. And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
26. And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
27. And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

*MESSAGE:*

Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law came to Moses on a visit, bringing with him Zipporah and Moses’ two sons. Having spent some time with Moses, he observed how Moses had been leading the people of God strenuously, especially during cases that needed Moses’ judgement (v.16). Moses would attend to them from morning till evening each day. Jethro took time to advise him on how best to handle and judge the people in their matters. He counselled him to approach leadership by delegation of authority and division of labour (vv. 17-23), just as Jesus did with the Twelve and Paul with Timothy respectively (Lk 10:1; 2 Tim.2:2). Following this piece of advice actually made Moses live long and retain his strength and time for other profitable engagements.

The counsel of Jethro is applicable to everyone. Leaders should learn to delegate authority. A leader who wants to attend to everything himself will overwork his system and live in constant stress. As a Christian, you are a leader. It is good for you to learn how to delegate and take off the stress. You should learn how to groom and prepare your successors. Try to mentor others and build confidence and competence in subordinates who will be in positions of leadership in the nearest future. Furthermore, no one is too inexperienced to offer a piece of advice. Your ability to consider other people’s opinion is a show of humility and Christian maturity. Be humble enough to listen to good counsels and follow them.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, help me to be humble enough to listen when You speak to me through Your appointed agents, in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

1. Then the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

2. For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,

3. Behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain.

4. And the Lord shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel.

5. And the Lord appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the Lord shall do this thing in the land.

6. And the Lord did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

7. And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.

8. And the Lord said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh.

*MESSAGE:*
In our passage today, the Bible states why God wondrously and constantly showed grace and mercy to the children of Israel above other nations of the earth. He explained to them through Moses that He had miraculously delivered them from Egypt, the land of bondage. He also emphasized how He took good care of them in the wilderness on account of His love. In clear terms, God desired to have Israel abide by the provisions of His laws and covenant. This would make them a special treasure unto Him above all other nations; they would be His kingdom of priests leading other nations in His worship (vv. 5-6).

Today, we are made to realise that no matter the position we are occupying either in church or society, it is by God’s grace; it is not by our own making. We should note that any blessing we receive is purely through God’s mercy; it is because He has chosen to bless us and not because of our righteousness or qualifications (1 Cor.1:24-31). More so, as children of God, we are chosen by God to be His special treasure, a holy nation and a kingdom of priests to Him. We are to serve as light to the world. He chooses us, not by merit, but because of His everlasting love. We are therefore expected to be merciful to others, love unconditionally, avoid being judgmental; and strive to please God who has chosen us as His treasure.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, help me to live my life as a special treasure; bringing pleasure to You all the time in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

10. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,
11. And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
12. And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:
13. There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.
14. And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
15. And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.
16. And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.
17. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
18. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
19. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.
20. And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
21. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
22. And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.
23. And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.
24. And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.
25. So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

*MESSAGE:*

Today’s passage reveals what we need to do to enjoy God’s presence every day. God’s people were divinely instructed to be sanctified, with their clothes washed at least two days before the appearance of God to them (v.10). They were asked to set boundaries in relation to where they could go and what they could touch (vv. 12 & 13). People were thus sanctified and washed (vv. 14,15). This sanctification did not exempt the priests (v.22). Thereafter, God’s presence was made manifest (vv. 16-20). From the call of Moses in Exodus 3:1-6, God had emphasized consecration which had no alternatives. Both the leadership and followership in the Church are enjoined to be consecrated for divine service. We are called to be holy.

A lot has happened to the present-day Church as everyone wants to be involved in God’s work in one way or the other and painfully, without consecration. Holiness, despite its scarcity on our pulpits today, remains the major prerequisite for enjoying the presence of God (2 Chronicles 5:11-14). It is still the basis for continuous victory spiritually and physically (Joshua 7:1ff; Isa. 52:11; Matt. 5:48 & 1Pet. 1:15,16). Consecrate yourself unto the Lord and you can never regret it!

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, I consecrate my life to You today, help me to remain holy unto You all the days of my life. *Amen.*

*DATE:* MONDAY, 11TH JULY, 2022 *THEME:* STOP THAT FELLOWSHIP

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 5:11-12

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

11. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

*MESSAGE:*

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines fellowship as an organised group of people who share an interest, aim or belief. In the two verses in our text, Apostle Paul was emphatic in telling the Ephesian Church not to fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness. This was not the first time he would be addressing people on this matter. He also mentioned it to the Church at Corinth in his second letter that they should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers and their works (2Cor. 6:14-18).

Beloved, every Child of God is known by what he or she does or associates with (Matt. 7:17). Amos 3:3 says “Can two walk together unless they are agreed?” How will you say you are a child of God and you still keep company with cultists, rapists, bandits, fornicators, idolaters, backbiters, and the likes. Your life is not supposed to glorify the devil; it should but be a source of praise to the Shepherd of your soul. You have no reason to associate with wrong people. No situation should be considered strong enough to drive you into fellowship with Satan through wrong relationship. Sinners are bound to entice you but you should not consent. Keeping bad company will make you forfeit the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Allow Jesus Christ rule your life entirely even in your choice of friends. God bless you.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, help me not to associate myself with any work of darkness in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

TOPIC: YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

✝️TEXT: Ephesians 5: 13-17 (NKJV)

13. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
14. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."
15. See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,
16. redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord [is.]

✝️️STUDY: One major characteristic of light is that it exposes (v.13). In other words, it does not allow anything to hide from sight. Nothing is hidden where light is present. Jesus says in Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Believers in Christ are the light of the world. This is the background of Paul’s position in our passage today. As carriers of the light of God, Christians are enjoined to arise and shine in order to dispel darkness (v.14 cf. Isaiah 60:1). They are not to walk as fools but to display the wisdom of God in all things (vv. 15-17). It is quite unfortunate today that some of those who claim to be the light of the world are not projecting it. I hope you are not one of those who keep the light of the gospel without reflecting it? Unless you rise and shine as light in the darkness of the world, the devil will continue to take the centre stage in your environment, family and business.

Do not be deceived, you are not supposed to keep your light under the table. Let the world know you for the Christian you are. Do not allow situations and circumstances make you deny the power of God and His righteousness. You are to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour with your life and conduct. You are the light of the world; you are to live by the truth and for the truth. The good Lord will give you grace.

✝️ PRAYER: Lord, I know I am the light of the world, do not allow my light to be covered by the world of darkness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

18. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20. Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
21. Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

*MESSAGE:*

The Holy Spirit is the third Person in Trinity. He is the Promise and Gift of God to all believers in Christ. Jesus Christ told His disciples that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit had come upon them and they would be His witnesses in every part of the world (Acts1:cool. In our text today, Paul admonished the believers in Ephesus not to get drunk with wine but to be filled with the Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Holy Spirit means to experience the infilling of the power from on high which enables every child of God to be victorious in his or her Christian journey.

Beloved, being filled with Holy Spirit is the key to enjoying abundant life in Christ Jesus. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are bound to experience and express joy and peace. The Holy Spirit emboldens us to overcome oppression, depression and frustration. Whoever is filled with the Holy Spirit will be empowered to live a life pleasing in the sight of God. As a child of God, note that God is always willing to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him (Luke 11:13). Ask Jesus to fill you with His Spirit and empower you to live a victorious Christian life. You need the Holy Spirit!

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, fill my life with the Holy Spirit that I may live to honour and glorify Your name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. *Amen.*

24. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

*MESSAGE:*

Marriage is God’s own idea; it is a divine institution ordained to fulfil God’s definite purpose. God says in Genesis 2:18 “It is not good that man should be alone, I will make him a help suitable for him.’’ Unfortunately, marriage as an institution, is mostly battered and attacked by the devil. Some people see marriage as a means of pleasure and bearing children; it is even believed by some men and women that marriage is a great hindrance to personal freedom. They see it as a necessary evil that man needs to cope with. God ordained marriage for man and woman to enjoy. He equally provided guiding principles to ensure that nothing stops man from fulfilling His purpose in marriage. While husbands are to love their wives unconditionally, wives are to be subject to their own husbands in everything (v.22). The two are to submit to each other in the fear of God (v.21).

Beloved, marriage is an institution of both love and understanding. It is important that husbands and wives should be familiar with God’s expectations in their marriages. When marriage is handled the right way, it yields a heaven-on-earth experience. When a husband embraces the prescription of loving his wife not only when things are rosy and the wife submits completely to the husband, the result is phenomenal. This is the way of God. If your marriage is suffering in one way or the other, kindly take stock of your actions and check whether you are playing your own roles as stipulated in the scripture or not. You cannot truly follow the scripture and your marriage will experience retrogression.

*PRAYER:*

Lord, I thank you for the gift of marriage, give me the grace to abide by Your principles, in Jesus’ name. *Amen*

33. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

*MESSAGE:*

Yesterday we started looking at God’s expectation for a Christian home. We saw from the Scripture what Christian couples are expected to do in order to experience God’s presence and peace. Our passage today reveals the mandate of God to man in fulfilling eternal purpose in marriage. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for her (v.25). This simply shows the extent to which a man is expected to love his own wife. You will discover that the Bible requires that a man should love his wife to the point of death. This kind of agape love leaves no room for divorce or infidelity. It closes the door against any form of satanic suggestion that can break or destroy any Christian marriage. Every Christian man in marriage is expected to follow the love pattern of Jesus Christ for the Church. Jesus Christ emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death on the cross, all for the sake of the Church (Phil.2:6-cool.

What a perfect love! The Bible does not leave us in doubt as to how men should express genuine love to their wives. Christian husbands should endeavour to pray for more understanding of God’s mandate in their homes. When a man loves his wife as Christ loved His Church and gave Himself up for her, the wife is bound to reciprocate with total submission as commanded by God. Inability to abide by the word of God is the cause of all the problems associated with marriage. As a Christian husband, your wife is a gift from God and must be cherished and appreciated at all times. She is not a necessary evil, learn to love her unconditionally.

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, give me the grace to run my home according to Your principles, in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

*DATE:* SATURDAY, 16TH JULY, 2022 *THEME:* CHILDREN, OBEY YOUR PARENTS

*TEXT:* EPHESIANS 6: 1-4

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

*MESSAGE:*

Our passage today shows how Paul pointed out the responsibilities of children in the home - they are to obey their parents with unreserved respect. In other words, they must carry out the instructions of their parents without rebuffing. Quoting from the Old Testament, Paul emphasised that it is the first commandment with a promise of long life and prosperity (vv. 1-3; Exodus 20:12). That is, obedient children will live to fulfil their days on the land of the living and prosper in all they do.

In our present days, many parents are facing lots of troubles and challenges in raising their children in the way of the Lord. Many children have become thorns in the flesh of their parents and the society. Children who are supposed to be the heritage of the Lord now respond willingly to the devil in their acts and conducts. As a Christian child, you should be different and obedient to your parents. Some children are in the habit of talking back at their parents; they are stubborn and have become uncontrollable. You should not join such children whose ways of life are against the will of God. You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and a peculiar treasure of the living God (1Pet. 2:9). Learn to obey and honour your parents and it shall be well with you.

*PRAYER:*
Lord Jesus Christ, come into my life and give me the Spirit of obedience to Your commandment, in Jesus’ name. *Amen.*

TOPIC: TRANSFORMATION BY RENEWAL OF THE MIND

✝️TEXT: Romans 12:1-8 (NKJV)

1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service.
2. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
3. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
4. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function,
5. so we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
6. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, [let us use them:] if prophecy, [let us prophesy] in proportion to our faith;
7. or ministry, [let us use it] in [our] ministering; he who teaches, in teaching;
8. he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

✝️️STUDY: Our reading today confronts us with the charge of presenting our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto God. Sacrifice here refers to the conscious act of doing all that we do for Christ Jesus and to the glory of God. This is possible by a continuous renewal of our mind. In other words, we must get our minds refreshed and re-empowered. This exercise includes daily fellowship with the Lord in His word, prayers and obedience. Beloved, as we fellowship with God daily, we become more like Him.

Our constant fellowship draws us closer to Him and away from sin and pollutions of the world. In other words, the nearer we are to God, the farther we are from sin. We become transformed daily into his likeness from one level of glory to another. Any failure to fellowship with Him will not allow our minds to get renewed. When our minds are renewed, our worship will be acceptable unto the Lord. We must note that it is at the place of renewal of our minds that our spiritual weaknesses are turned to strength and our failures to successes.

✝️ PRAYER: Dear Lord, give me grace to constantly fellowship with you so that my mind will always be renewed, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

12. The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

13. Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

14. Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.

15. If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

16. Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

17. Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

18. Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

19. Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

20. Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

21. For thus saith the Lord God; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

22. Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

23. And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

*MESSAGE:*

God, in our passage today, makes it clear that there are four severe judgments He sends to any land that persists in unfaithfulness. These instruments of judgement are the sword _(that is, war, unrest, conflicts),_ famine _(scarcity of food),_ wild beasts _(devourers)_ and pestilence _(pandemics or plagues)._ All these He unleashes on nations who persist in their sins. However, while executing judgments upon such sinful lands, God is usually mindful of the fact that there are righteous men and women who live in the land. Men like Noah, Daniel and Job. God remembers them in such situations and singles them out for safety and eternal salvation because they are different. They have found grace to separate themselves from defilements and embrace uprightness. These are the basic features of the lives of Noah, Job and Daniel.

Dearly beloved, it is true that judgment is coming upon all lands in this world because of persistent unfaithfulness to God. The signals are already with us. The chaos and instability across the nations are indices. But like Noah, Daniel and Job stood for God in their generations, let us also stand in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Surely, God will not forget those who stand for His truth and righteousness. He will surely save you!

*PRAYER:*

Dear Lord, help me to stand continually in the righteousness that is of Christ Jesus in this unfaithful generation. *Amen.*

1. The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,
2. What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
3. As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
4. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
5. But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,
6. And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,
7. And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;
8. He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,
9. Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
10. If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,
11. And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,
12. Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,
13. Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
14. Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,
15. That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,
16. Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,
17. That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
18. As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
19. Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
20. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

*MESSAGE:*
In the passage for today, God points the attention of Jeremiah to a wrong notion among the people of Israel: That children bear the guilt and are punished for the offences of their parents. This is not true. God is not unjust to punish the good father for the offences of a sinful son or the righteous son for the wickedness of an evil father. He is particular about every soul. The reason is simple - All souls are His.

Beloved, we all belong to God and He desires our well-being. He delights in seeing us prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper. The prosperity of our souls lies in our right standing with God. There is no reason to doubt that God delights in the prosperity of His servants. Scripture affirms that it shall be well with the righteous (Isaiah 3:10). God is just, He will by no means absolve the guilty but He will save the righteous. God punishes successive generations of those who despise Him, yet He shows mercy on thousands of those who love, fear and keep His commandments (Ex. 20:4-6). God will have mercy on you and cause your soul to prosper as you make up your mind to hold on to His righteousness.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, I hold on to the righteousness in Jesus Christ. Have mercy on me. _*Amen.*_

23. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24. But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25. Yet ye say, The way of the LORD is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26. When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
28. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
29. Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the LORD is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
30. Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
31. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
32. For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

*MESSAGE:*

Yesterday, we saw that all souls belong to God. He is particularly interested in every individual and will by no means absolve the guilty but will save the souls of the righteous. Our passage today points out clearly that it is the desire of God to embrace any sinner that turns away from his wickedness (v.27). This is another scriptural proof that God loves sinners but hates sin. As soon as a sinner throws away his sin and comes to God, he will be welcomed. This is because God’s mercy is boundless and endures forever. It is also interesting to note that God is not going to spare anyone who had known His way but deliberately relapses into sin and fails to repent; his righteous deeds will no longer count (v.26). In other words, the righteous have to be on their toes always in their pursuit of the holiness of God. God is so just that when a sinner repents, he obtains forgiveness but when a righteous person backslides, he will be severely punished.

Beloved, God can cleanse you from your sins no matter how terrible they might be. The blood of Jesus Christ our Lord cleanses from all sins (1John 1:7). All you need to do is to surrender to the Lord and turn away completely from your sinful lifestyle; God is willing to forgive you. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and He will save you from your sins (Matt. 1:21) In the same vein, if you have been on the Lord’s side and you are beginning to sing the Lord’s songs in a strange land, it will be rewarding for you to turn to the Lord for forgiveness. Your unrighteous activities are enough to rob you of your eternal crown. Therefore, as a carrier of God’s saving grace, you are to remain steadfast to the very end. God has no pleasure in the death of a sinner but that he should repent and live.

*PRAYER:*
Dear Lord, I come to you today, save my soul and let me stand in the righteousness of Christ always. *Amen.*

*DATE:* THURSDAY, 21ST JULY, 2022 *THEME:* CONSEQUENCES OF REBELLION

*TEXT:* EZEKEIL 20: 21-38

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

21. Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
22. Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.
23. I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;
24. Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.
25. Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
26. And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
27. Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.
28. For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
29. Then I said unto them, What is the high place whereunto ye go? And the name whereof is called Bamah unto this day.
30. Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?
31. For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.
32. And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
33. As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:
34. And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.
35. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.
36. Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.
37. And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:
38. And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

*MESSAGE:*

God warned His people about the consequences of disobedience and rebellion in Deuteronomy 28:15ff. In our text today, God accused the children of Israel of rebelling against Him and through His Prophet, made them to know the consequences of their actions. He accused them of not walking in His statutes and not observing His judgment. (v.21a). The verdict of God on these rebellious children of Israel was that He would pour out His fury on them and fulfil His anger against them (v.21b).

Disobedience always attracts God’s punishment; God does not celebrate the rebellious but looks favourably at those who tremble at His word. There are devastating experiences for those who turn against the word of God. Whatever causes a man to turn away from the will of God is more or less an idol. Anything that takes over the place of God in your life, or your devotion and commitment to God is tantamount to idolatry and rebellion. There is virtually no gain in rebellion. As a matter of fact, it is compared with witchcraft (1Samuel 15:23). Rebellion is disobedience and it is the opposite of living right. You do not need to experience the consequences of disobedience before you devote yourself to righteous living. In case you are currently reaping the fruits of your rebellion, it is the desire of God that henceforth you amend your ways and be determined to obediently follow Him even when it is not convenient.

*PRAYER:*

The Kingdom of God is not for the anointed but for the obedient.

*DATE:* FRIDAY, 22ND JULY, 2022 *THEME:* MARY MAGDALENE: A GRATEFUL SERVANT

*TEXT:* LUKE 8: 1-3

*BIBLE READING* (KJV)

1. And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
2. And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
3. And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.

*MESSAGE:*

Mary Magdalene was one of the women that followed and supported Jesus’ ministry when He was here on earth. She was called Mary Magdalene to differentiate her from other Mary who also followed Jesus in His life time. She was from the City of Magdala hence the name, Mary Magdalene. She was one of the early followers of Jesus Christ and certainly deserves to be called a disciple. Mary Magdalene was the woman out of whom Jesus cast out seven demons (Mark 16:9). She was also the first person to discover the empty tomb and see Jesus after the Resurrection. Mary Magdalene used all resources in her possession to serve and support the ministry of Jesus Christ in appreciation of all that the Lord had done for her.

As Christians, we can borrow a leaf from the life and dispositions of Mary Magdalene who engaged everything at her disposal to serve the Lord. Jesus Christ wants us to use our lives, wealth and every material possession to propagate the Gospel and populate the kingdom of God. When we do this, we are only showing our appreciation for all He has done for us: Our salvation from sin, deliverance from the power of darkness and all His goodness over our lives. Mary Magdalene followed Jesus everywhere He went, so we must be available to follow Jesus everywhere He leads us.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, make me available for your service at all times, in Jesus’ name. *(Amen)*
