Every believer does not receive the gift of tongues.
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God. Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

Your observations are quite correct and the questions you raised should bother every genuine, Spirit filled Christian with a good knowledge of the word of God. The rule according to scriptures is if your speaking in tongues is not personal and private then you must interpret but that is not the case with those singing for the public and speaking in tongues. Some Christians just love to copy or imitate something that is trending without verifying if it is scriptural. This practice is definitely unscriptural and should be discouraged.

If their speaking in tongues didn't come with any interpretation like the scripture stated it clear it means it not of God, it's of the devil and the children of God shouldn't dance or get inspired by such social gospel song or the musician itself.

No, u are wrong.
The evidence of you having the holy spirit in u is speaking in tongues.

The Bible says these signs shall follow them that believe " they shall speak with new tongues".
It shows that u believe nd u are fill with the holy ghost.

“New tongues” means they spoke in language other than their native language.

Speaking in tongues have become so mainstream now that you can't go to any church and not hear people speaking in tongues.
What about Christian music, tongues everywhere, something that wasn't there 10 years ago.
My questions are as follow
It's a common saying that IF THE PURPOSE OF A THING IS NOT KNOWN ABUSE IS INEVITABLE
1) What is the purpose of tongues?
2) Is every Christian meant to speak in tongues?

Don't deceive urself.
U do not speak in tongues nd u don't believe in speaking in tongues.

If u could come out to talk against God's word this way, I think ur salvation is under maybe.

U can't be born again Christian nd speak against speaking in tongues. It's not possible for light to speak against light.

Check the Acts of apostle to see how the holy ghost came upon every born again Christian there nd those that believe without the holy ghost received it with ease .

Well, it is God that can decide if my salvation is real or not but I sincerely appreciate your response.

However, I expected that you answer my questions with biblical reference(s) rather than you questioning my salvation.

The truth is that most tongues being spoken in the churches these days are fake so nothing new there.

There might be some genuine tongues being spoken on some of those songs you spoke about if it was truly the Holy Spirit that gave the utterances but that rarely happens.

That's one area the church needs revival today.

God bless.

How do u know they are fake?
Where you standing with the d holy ghost when he gave them to know which is fake?
Just bcuz don't like or believe in something doesn't mean it's fake.
Remember, u choose wat u want to believe in the Bible.

The Bible clearly stated these signs shall follow them that believe " they shall speak in new tongues" ,but it's still by choice. It's a gift of the holy ghost, but u receive gift by choice.

The funny thing about it all is that after the song has been recorded with the tongues, when they are performing same songs on stage, they recite the exact tongues as the ones they initially used!! More like it’s a lyric that they wrote and practiced !! They go come close eyes de do like people way wan fall!!

New tongues means speaking in tongues.

Which can be interpreted into human language. They spoke in another language other than their native language just like in pentecost, when other people that weren’t filled with “holy spirit” was able to understand it in their native language

This questions, my advise you should have taken it to your pastor first or find a spiritual man that have understanding on the things of the spirit. Nairaland is not the best platform to answer you on this matter. This is not a spiritual or bible study platform so many social and carnal people that will end up given you there opinion or what they feel about it. I wish I can answer Your question but I am type that hate argument or take insult. But believe me I can contribute little on this if you want us to talk probably on WhatsApp. God bless you

Please, I beg you all in the Name of God, don't be like my past self insulting the Precious Holy Spirit and His precious gift of speaking in tongues.

He didn't insult, he only questioned the source of the strange languages which may not be a gift of the Holy spirit but rather some diabolic entities. You and I know that speaking in tongues is easy to fake as the op has emphasized. To quickly classify this as an insult is manipulative. The op was quite objective.

If you are conversant with the modern-day gospel music industry, you would have noticed a sudden surge of unknown tongues in many gospel songs from gospel artists of mostly black descent. This sudden development in my opinion is worthy of serious interrogation as the Bible says that we should test all spirits so as know which is of God [1 John 4:1].

The gospel songs I knew while growing up emphasized godly living using language(s) that can be understood. The hymns for example are written in plain language(s) and one can attest to the fact that those songs are divinely inspired and spirit-filled. Meanwhile, the present crops of gospel music raving the moment are mostly incorporated with unknown tongues and spiritual chants that can not be understood by anyone and yet we have not found a single interpreter to interpret the tongues in these popular songs. I believe that in itself negates the fundamental injunction stated by Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:27.

I have been to megachurches in several regions of Nigeria where I have heard worship leaders repeating the same tongues in these popular gospel records verbatim and I get confused each time. Damn! Something is wrong somewhere. It's almost impossible to hear a gospel record these days without hearing an unknown tongue in it. Could that be the latest marketing strategy to sell gospel records?

Yes! I believe in tongues but I also believe that not all spirit-filled Christians must speak in tongues. Some operate in other gifts like prophecy, Discernment, word of knowledge, words of wisdom, walking of miracles e.t.c [1 Corinthians 12:4-11]. it is the spirit that distributes these gifts but I wonder while the present church places much emphasis on tongues. Well, maybe that's because tongues are the easiest to fake. Maybe I said.

Now to my honest questions:

1. If speaking in tongues only edifies the one who speaks it and not the body of Christ as it is in 1 Corinthians 14:4, why will any gospel musician incorporate an unknown tongue in his or her song lyrics for the body of Christ?

2. Where exactly is it written in the Bible that Christians should sing in tongues? Is there anywhere in the Bible the Apostles did? I know pentecostal christians will mention 1 Corinthians 14:15 but is that what Apostle Paul was really saying in that passage?

3. Why were the ancient gospel songs not incorporated with unknown tongues as we have now? Could it be that modern Christian worship has been hijacked by strange spirits?

Above are my reservations about the sudden proliferation of unknown tongues in modern gospel music. I will appreciate answers with biblical reference(s) to my questions in the comment section.

Thanks!

You speak from a place of ignorance and lack of the spirit indwelling

My dear modern Christian worship has really been hijacked by strange spirits. You need to visit university campus fellowships so you can see how bad it has become. The university is now filled up with strange spirits luring students into their fellowship and teaching them that speaking in tongues is all there is to Christianity, any corner you turn to you see students speaking rubbish in the name of tongues. Students don’t pray again, they just say gibberish and most of them have never had an encounter with the Holy Spirit they’re always talking about. I’ve tried to join so many fellowships but they are all the same thing even ordinary class prayer if you’re not speaking rubbish like them they’ll keep telling you that you’re not yet filled with the Holy Spirit. The only thing they talk about is how you’re supposed to speak in tongue not even salvation, so many of them have tried to force me into speaking rubbish but I refused. It even got to the extent that they wrote them incorrigible words and told me to cram it so that when others are speaking in tongue I’ll be reciting the rubbish I crammed. That’s when I discovered that it’s the same thing these students keep on repeating in the name of prayer. I left the fellowship after telling them to open their mouth and tell God what they want in the language that they understand. These children have been brainwashed
You have said it all. They practically teach those mofos how to speak in tongue. WTH!!

You don't just open your mouth and be saying the rubbish you were taught and call it speaking in tongues without the direction of the Holy spirit. And who told you that every Christian must speak in tongues? What happened to the other gifts of the Holy spirit?

Songs are recorded in bits.

So they have to redo a particular line over and over again

So you can see how fake everything is.
