Let us use a transporter for an illustration.
If a bridge shortens the distance from A to B, then it saves fuel and thus lower costs which means more profits. It also saves time enough for him to make more trips and earn more income. With more income over time he pays more taxes to the same Government that built the bridge! And when you aggregate a lot of transporters using the bridge then we see significant impact on GDP. You should get the drift now.

Shifting base is not a big deal as far as business is concerned, so, I am still wondering how that will lead to unemployment. If business leave a particular location and lose its current employees(who could not follow), it will employ another set wherever it relocate to.
