Is this move by Yar'Adua a good strategy or a bad one?

Any genuine effort to restructre the nigerian police is a good one to me!

The Brits have one of the most effiecient police force in the world, i welcome this move just hope we will not destroy it with out Nigerian factor.

Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by BigB11(m): 6:58pm On Nov 27, 2007
I think the move is a bright strategy, but I'm not sure if it will be effective.

Why:
Infrastructure issues (poor power supply and no or inaccurate street addresses)
Corruption issues
Incompetent leaders
Defective 911 operation
Our state of mind
Lack of necessary machineries and many many more.

Don't let us deceive ourselves and open another opportunity for corruption episode; in order for this invitation to be effective and efficient, certain things or issues must be properly dealt with or addressed; or else Britain will get frustrated and leave without accomplishing anything. Which means at the end of the day money will be wasted and many will get richer from the incomplete project.

Therefore, before we start jubilating and hoping for miracle; our government must address all these minor issues and setup a friendlier or favourable ground for the Britain to be successful.

I do not mean to sound pessimistic, but something tells me that our stupid leaders will not follow these steps; it will be short cuts as usual (Mckren's style).

I disagree with your view of British police, from first hand experience I can tell you they are rubbish and inefficient.

Call them when a crime is in progress and they turn up 3 hours later, if you want a quick response tell them a life is at risk.

Yar'adua has the right idea but it seems he is looking in the wrong place.

I think the same applies to nearly all police forces, they will get to the scene after the crime has been committed to write report and collect evidence .

I think we should be canvassing for a holistic approach to tackle the problems of the Nigerian police force.

The fact that their 'force' is more effective make their invitation commendable, or where do you suggest the president start from?

The British Police is no longer effective, they are target driven they now have to give account of crimes solved e.t.c , they have a lot of paperwork to complete and so they do not want to attend to every crime reported, for example just last week a group of youths were mugged and had phones taken off them, the police were called but they never turned up, the person who reported the crime called againg and was told they had several other things they were attending to so they could not come, they nearest ploice station is less than 5 miles away. They would rather cruise around in patrol cars and arrest people for vey minor offences because they will have less paperwork to do, when it comes to serious crimes you are on you own unless of course someone dies. Another thing you need to be aware of is that the British police have lowered their recruitment standards so as to allow more ethnic represenation in the force time will tell if this is a good move.

I do not see how the British police system will resolve the Nigerian Police problem, not all british policemen are armed how will they be able to relate to the Nigerian situation where robbers roam about with weapons ? or is the goverement just looking at the administrative side of things ?

Personally I believe help should be sought from a Police force that has experience of dealing with situations such as we have in Nigeria maybe from the US for instance ?

LOL

Mckren must be so popular in your heart (He love's me)

The Strategy to me is welcomed, our police is so unprofessional. However reforming the police has wider issues, Some police officers engage in bribery and other nefarious activities not by choice but cause its a means to survival in our society.

Hence while we celebrate the new move we must understand that changes will not be radical cause even the British police will fail in a society where poverty, corruption thrives.

I disagree with you, the British Police is great.

Your casestudy for criticising the British Police is Youth Anti Social behaviour, that is not fair at all. Want to know what it means to have a police?

Think of the Murder enquiry on Alexander Litvinienko and how Polonium 210 was traced
Think of the depth of investigation on murder enquiries arround the shores of Britain
Think of the fact that a police man arrives at a scene and treats everyone in a civil and modest manner while appreciating the very essence of not provoking local people in carrying out their duties.

Those are why the British police is great.

However this topic is not about the efficiency of British Police, but on credibility of President Yaradua's move. I think the move is great and little by little we are getting there.
Nigeria recently launched Biometric passports through the Immigration service, someday we will all have National identities. Hence their is need to upgrade our police to the digital age and build a force who realise that they should by every sense of the word be "the public's best friend"

Accurate!
(Mckren must be a born again or something).

It is definitely not about British police, but about our state of mind and state of things in general.

Are we truly ready for this move? If not, we must get ourselves ready before implementing the move. And this is the only way this move will be productive or constructive in our retarded environment.

My message for Yar'Adua is: It is very difficult and almost impossible to assist or train someone how to swim without swimming pool or river. It is very important to study and follow certain steps in order for this strategy to be a successful one.

If we want this to work in Nigeria, we must setup a favourable ground for the Britain.
There is absolutely no short cuts to this success.

It doesn't matter, Yar'Adua can go ahead and invite the combination of Britain and United States all together, it will not work if certain issues are not initially and properly addressed.

It is that simple.
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by Mamajama(m): 10:28pm On Nov 27, 2007
This idea to me is stupid.  the last inspector general tried this move and was publicly criticise in the press.

I do not see anything that the British police can do to help the Nigerian police.  You cant fix your broken house from the outside.  What we need is well equipped police men, Better housing, better salary and benefit package.

You can invite astronaut from Spain.  the result will be the same as long as we don't tackle the basic needs of the policemens.  How many police men are willing to take a bullet for their poor salary?

The restructuring has to start with the congress, we need better legislation to provide ammunition, housing and even GARI for our police officers.
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by Mamajama(m): 10:32pm On Nov 27, 2007
Can you do a credible investigation with no light and computers? we do not have the correct diagnostics equipments to solve crime. No centralized database. can you Blvd we are still using file to record criminal offenses in this nation?

How can you trace a murderer or a child abuser with no unique identification system? Britain is different from Nigeria and our leaders need to understand we have different culture.
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by BigB11(m): 10:33pm On Nov 27, 2007
I'm just glad that Ehindero(aka Police business man) is no longer here to turn this new project into a daily pepper soup.
A man that thought changing police uniform was the same as changing police image.

Leadership is not for everybody!
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by BigB11(m): 10:37pm On Nov 27, 2007
My concern is: one of the British police getting injured or killed during this process.

It will not be pretty!
These are the things our leaders should address before making this move.
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by Mamajama(m): 10:39pm On Nov 27, 2007
here we go with your sentimental talk again, dude what kind of concoction did your parents give you as a child?

you can;t for once have a reasonable conversation without personally attacking people that can careless what you think of them.

Were you not the same full condemning this act of inviting the BRITICOS to come to Nigeria and help solve a murder case?

I will pray for you cause it seems your brain has been shallow with all the money your father stole.

don't they get protection? this is why i always called you a NOVICE. when was the last time a delegate has been killed in NIGERIA? NEVER

well foreigners train Nigerian air force esp when they get new aircraft and I think British army trained the army in sierra Leone especially new recruits and some serving military personnel, i don't see anything there

or better still why cant he ask Brown to send a britico to be executive president so they can help us repair nigeria.

or I forget:

what about the road; call germans

what about agriculture: call Zimbabwe white farmer

what about electricity: call France

what about telephony: call south africa

what about school: call Finland

The strategy is bright and can definitely be a fruitful one as long as the preparation is profoundly implemented.
The duration of the process should be at least between 4 to 10 years.

No more short cuts, let's take our time and get it right the first time.

(even Mckren is now staying far away from short cuts)

It amazes me the way we and our leaders subject ourselves to this people that pay lip services to our problem. Nobody can sort out our problem unless we do. We have efficient police force but we do not have motivated and equiped police force. Motivate them and equip them. Then remove corruption from above you will see them perform wonders. Most of the murder mysteries in OBJ's rejimes were solved but because the orders were from above, they were never made public. Let them stop deceiving the poor masses. God will deliver us.

Is it not the same police force that were recommneded by the UN for the work they did in Sierra Leone that we are looking for british police, this racist infested force to come and reorganise.

We always have the feeling that we cannot do it right. Tooo bbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by BigB11(m): 3:41pm On Nov 28, 2007
Our country will remain stationary (retarded) for a very long time if we continue to flex our fake depleted muscle. There is nothing bad in seeking for assistance when there is need for it; this is part of life and growth.

This move (Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police) has nothing to do with ego or pride.

We all know that Nigerians are bunch of brilliant people and there is absolutely no way this move in any way will jeopardize the pridefulness of our nation.

An effective way to solve a problem:
Identify the problem
Accept the responsibility
Identify solutions
Select the best solution.
Execute the solution.
Evaluate the progress/ outcome.

If Nigerian government thinks inviting Britain is a perfect solution to this problem, I say go for it. But we must be proactive by implementing favourable ground for the project before initiating it.

Let's face the fact, Nigerian Police has been retarded for more than 40 years (Nigeria is only 47years old); at this point, I think we should embrace anything that will uplift the value and pride of this department. It makes absolutely no sense to continue like this.
The security of any nation is a primary factor when it comes to rebuilding or restructuring process (without the implementation of reliable security for the citizens), we will never progress in any way if the security for the citizens, investors and establishments is weak and defective.

Many Nigerians today refuse to return back to Nigeria not because of poverty or poor infrastructure, but because of poor security structure. Nobody is willing to trade his or her precious life to relocate back to Nigeria; therefore, Nigeria is indirectly missing out on potential leaders and bright professionals who refuse to return home.
I predict that very soon the governor of Lagos will be an Indian Nigerian, if nothing is done to entice real Nigerians to return back home (there isn't nothing enticing to this folks than implementing solid security for the citizens).

As long as greedy pigs (Ehindero, OBJ etc) are not involved, I think this bright strategy will be fruitful; it may take sometime, but we will thank Yar'Adua for this move at the end of the day.

We have absolutely nothing to lose!
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by Jen33(m): 5:33pm On Nov 28, 2007
I think it's an absolute disgrace that we see fit to call the British to come and ''train'' our police force. Are we really this shameless? Someone said ''we tried on our own and it didn't work''. Nonsense. We've NOT tried anything on our own beyond lip service by avaricious overlords. What we need is sincerity and self-belief by those who call themselves our leaders, failing which they should vacate their positions for those better qualified and able.

It was the same Britain that created this Nigerian police force, whose main negative characteristic is the occupier mentality it retains from its colonial past, and evidenced by the often contemptuous, brutal treatment meted out to the citizenry.

It therefore smacks of foolishness and naivety of the most extreme kind to invite the same British to return and ''train'' the Nigerian police - again.

I see nothing but bad coming of it. Until we start to regard the British and Americans as our ENEMIES (which they are) we will never know peace.
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by BigB11(m): 6:08pm On Nov 28, 2007
I think it's an absolute disgrace that we see fit to call the British to come and ''train'' our police force.

No need to get things twisted, Let us take this as part of growth.

It isn't different from sending our military personels oversea for training.
It is also the same as sending leaders to Harvard University for training.

If it is OK to send our children to UK or US for schooling, it should be OK to bring training home to Nigerian Police.

The only difference is instead of sending these folks (Nigerian Police) to UK for training like other Nigerian citizens, we are bringing home the training to them.

We need to stop crying and accept anything that will improve our retarded ways of life.

You guys remind me of a very hungry poor man that has the audacity to complain that the soup has no maggi cube.

Abeg eat the damn food already!

In a daring operation carried out in broad daylight in Lagos, dare-devil armed robbers gunned down four policemen and snatched the salary of staff of a company located at 13, Fatai Atere Road, Matori, Isolo.

The slain policemen attached to Mushin Police Station, Olosan were said to be escorting a van carrying the salary of staff of FCML to the company on Monday when they were attacked
