I hope Nigeria will not waste resources on this
Re: Yar'adua Invites Britain To Reorganise Nigerian Police by BigB11(m): 5:58pm On Dec 11, 2007
waste resources?
How can a sick man waste his resources on getting cured from cancer?

In fact, I hope Nigeria spend more money on upgrading the standard of Nigerian Police force, instead of spending money renovating top government officials houses.

My point: There is no money wasted, when it comes to improve the back-bone of the nation (Nigerian police Force).
Let us just hope that the Federal Government follows the appropriate steps to make this project a successful one.

@babasin, why are you wasting your time education this illiterate boy from IBBs descendant called BIGB1.

Someone that hasn't worked a 9 to 5 or knows how to change a simple battery in a flash light is here running his halitosis about security.

BIGB1 it's easy for you to talk about security when your father IBB stole from Nigerian treasury and is able to hire private detectives from Israel to protect you and his families.

What was the outcome of British police comming to Nigeria to help solved the Murder of Funsho Williams?

Nigerian culture is totally different and we do not need this British police to come and tell us how to be professional. We need to address the root cause of unprofessionalism within the force. We need well educated police officers, equipments, modernize building and a better wealfare package.

Please tell me one country in the world that is immune to crime or corruption? Finland that is the best country security wise is still faced with corruption, and unethical behaviours among the force.

Are there not unsolved mystery cases in USA, British with all the intelligence and technology that they have?

I've said this before only Nigerians can solve the issue with the Nigerian police force.

@BigB1 How do you motivate illiterates that cant read? how do you motivate hungry people?
How do you motivate homeless people?

Please stop talking like you know what the police force is going through. Go to the village and talk to the common policemen on the highway. some of this so called police officers can't even read and you expect them to be professional.

WHo recruited all this people into the force in the 1st place? what are the requirements of recruitment into the force?

Will the British police go down to Sabon gari in Jos to train this peoplethat have no electricity, computer or basic weapon trainings?

Does the Nigerian police force has a strategic re training and certification programmes?

I also believe that bringing Britain to help reorganize Nigerian Police will further open more cans of deadly worms. In fact, this is one of the main reason why MAMAJAMA is absolutely against this bright strategy.

If all Yaradau can come up with is to invite 'british police' and you call it bright strategy:

No point discussing further with you.

this is a bad idea.
united states wanted to do the same in liberia but did not happen because we refused. and they paid us back when we asked for help during the last war. if nigerians are ready for a real change i think you guys can get this done on your own.

A pro-democracy group, Forward Nigeria (FN) has identified poor welfare package and inadequate equipment as the factors affecting the performance of the Nigeria Police Force.

The group which has been on the vanguard of improvement in the force charged the federal government to without further delay, take drastic actions of reviewing upward, the welfare package of officers and men of the force and providing the Police with modern equipment to enable them adequately face the challenges of present day policing.

In a statement signed by FN national president, Chief Chris McGil and secretary, Henry Nze, made available to Daily Champion in Kano, FN maintained that to pave way for the "New Nigeria" and in the spirit of the sustenance of the President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's reform agenda, "the federal government ought to take steps to reposition the Police Force because without it being reformed, the issue of insecurity will continue to stare us in the face," he noted.

The statement decried long years of neglect of the FN by successive governments and insisted that it is high time radical reforms took place in the Force, "by providing it with sufficient arms and ammunitions, communication gadgets and enough manpower."

FN noted further that, "in countries like the Britain and the USA, the Police there are adequately taken care of. They have attractive welfare package, they have enough equipment, they receive training and retraining from time to time; and that is why you see them do their job diligently."

may be this is what british police will train Nigeria Police:

The Court of Appeal in Abuja yesterday put to rest the controversy surrounding public procession over whether or not there is a need for police permit.
The court said it was no longer necessary to obtain permit before embarking on any assembly.
In its judgment, the appellate court presided over by Justice Danladi Mohammad held that such police approval infringed on the fundamental human rights provided for in the 1999 Constitution.
“The provision of the Act is unnecessary. We are in democracy and Nigeria has joined the league of civilised societies,'' Justice Olufunmilayo Adekeye who read the lead judgment said.
Justice Adekeye said it was wrong to continue to rely on the colonial method of suppressing people from exercising and enjoying their rights under the guise of Public Order Act.
The lead counsel to the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Mr. Femi Falana, had filed a suit on September 21, 2003, condemning the police for disrupting the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) rally at Kano with tear-gas.
The panel gave the judgment in an appeal by the Federal Government against the decision of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Justice Anwuri Chikere of the High Hourt had in 2005 nullified the Act on the ground that it was obsolete and a neo-colonialist rule
.
Dissatisfied with the decision of the lower court, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Nigerian Police Force had filed an appeal.
