anonymous6: AkaraAre you an expert! Congratulations. I knew the Akara in Bahia (Brazil). Women slaves desccendientes Akara sell the street ... fried in palm oil and shrimp stuffed with spicy ... It is a delight ... I think, the great difficulty of preparation, is to grind the beans ... but possibly today the procedure has been simplified with the help of a machine, or buying ready-made meal LOL! I really congratulate you! A friendly greeting! |

Ptolomeus: You welcome based on how you described the cooking in Brazil, it is very similar to Nigeria's Akara but in Nigeria they don't in shrimp, but it sounds tasty, I would like to try the Brazilian version. Also you are right cleaning, blending and etc the beans is the hardest part |
Re: What Are The Top 5 Black Cultural Foods/Cuisines To You? by Ptolomeus(m): 4:45pm On Sep 07, 2012 |
anonymous6: The Brazilian akara made from a type of bean, called (feijao fradinho). Should be peeled and then crushed. With that dough is prepared the "mass", which is fry in palm oil. When served, the Akara is cut longitudinally, and at its center are added some vegetables and shrimp. You can also add hot sauce containing Allspice (pimienta malagueta). Actually, the bare stage of the beans does not seduce women today (lol), so I've only seen preparing for old Bahian ("Bahian of acarajé) dressed in their costumes, or in restaurants. Thank you very much for your kindness and affection, which is mutual! 1 Like |

MsDarkSkin: if you could describe fufu's taste...what is it like? fufu plantain can be sweet, we blend the plantain with a bit of cassava (the plantain should not be too ripe, if it is the fufu would look bad) So it has somewhat the taste of plantain well later i ll find better video but this give u a glimpse on how we pound it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgIxTDx9czQ 1 Like |
