I'm just doing copy and paste from my diary o.lol

I hope it's making the thread colourful. wink

NAIRALAND

I know a land . . . .

So far away and yet so close within
A land of plenty troubles
A land of knowledge
A land of different people, race and colour
A land full of character assasination
A land of mind readers

An anonymous land

. . . a land where many run their mouth foul
Where many display gutter character
Where many are vulnerable . . . always a prey for the chauvinistic apes
Where many are innocent and defenseless
Where many are creative, ambitious and selfless

A land full of thoughtless and manner less people
A borderless land . . . found only on the World Wide Web

Do you know it is a small world?

No matter how you think you are anonymous on this land
There is someone on this land that knows you

Yorubas will say. . .
Eefin ni iwa . . . Character is like smoke

You may think you have escaped now . . . don’t be too certain
What you are today will certainly show up in your face tomorrow
Wherever you are, be it far away or near
Or be it on Nairaland

Please behave yourself.

My 2 cents

To answer your question, Love without love is simple and gratifying. Why can't we all shack and go our way? wink tongue

I will compare you to a spring night
You are more lovely and even merrier
Cool winds tingle April's precious floret
And spring's lease has too short for linger

Often times, the eyes of heaven shine too cool
And sometimes his complexion of silver beamed
And every ugly from fair sometimes pulls through
By chance, the changing of nature's course untrimmed

But you eternal spring, shall never fade
Or lose possession of that beauty you owe
Nor shall Death brag that you're insnared in his shade
When in eternal lines to time, you grow

So long as men can breathe and eyes see hue
So long gives this, and this gives life to you

This is for you. . . tongue

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date

Shakespeare had you in mind when he wrote this.

Is this not a variation of Sonnet 18?

Let fire flies fly.

Beside the tree of apples,

A damsel is born.

I stare at my hands.

They smile the smile of new love,

Damsel approaches.

I left my right hand.

Where hearts are about to FEEL,

The LOVE of a POET.

The sky is brand new.

They shine upon the white doves.

My damsel is here.

The lips part with care.

The heart enquires to know,

MORE of my damsel.

Let fire flies light.

Within the dance of beauty.

You will LOVE the rhymes.

Here is two times the price to pry open that grip
I want back the gem you found worthy to reap
I will not mind the wastes that you are making of it
I will liberate the wonders that are shrunken with it

Oh! Cursed be you Death for thinking you will win
For making me barren of joy and bleak within
For here on the edge of this blade there is peace
I will put back that rib that was ousted from me!

The black masquerade.

That comes out in afternoons.

Bald head dries in sun.

The bald masquerade.

That dances in pants of clowns.

Like a monkey's tail.

The fat masquerade.

Standing like amala paste.

A sight to behold!

Nice poems guys.
One secret in writing a good poetry is adding a twist
to it, whilst using simple and understandable structural language, so that it sounds
sweet, even to a lay man's hearing.

I love your poem breezy.

From my understanding of Cuddle's initial post. Any Nairalander can compete, all those names she listed was just to generate interest and give people some erm "potential targets" to set the competition rolling. So if you want to post, start posting.

Kpolli rhymes with Kuli-Kuli
So, are you posting out of jealousy?
'Tis totally unnecessary
'Cos for you out there is somebody
That will love and accept you gladly
