Thanks, sometimes though it's not an easy process going through every post 1 by 1 and filtering them out. In essence, there is no way to essentially delete a thread unless if the first post of said thread is hidden (as we had seen with the thread you created). Sometimes, there are good posts within a thread that I would prefer not to delete and going through all the posts in their entirety can take an "X" amount of time which I often don't have.

I do appreciate your advice though and I will constantly keep it in mind.

I am really confused. In the Romance section threads that incite hate are deleted, I repeat the word deleted, deleted, so why can't YOU DELETE such threads. No need to read through post by post. Does this section need these threads? Why close when you could just delete it? My insults derailed the thread so why are my comments still there? Why is a thread full of insults still live?

Is it that you don't have the means or power to delete threads.
Re: The Culture Lounge by Nobody: 7:56pm On Apr 23, 2016
Fulaman198:

Most insulting posts were removed. If people do not want to behave civil in a thread, then it should be closed as:

2. Don't abuse, bully, deliberately insult/provoke, fight, or wish harm to Nairaland members OR THEIR TRIBES.
3. Don't threaten, support or DEFEND violent acts against any person, tribe, race, animals, or group (e.g. rape).

were both violated.

why 'closed' and not 'deleted'?

As aforementioned, when the first post of a thread is hidden, that thread officially becomes "deleted". However, if one takes the time to go through a thread, they will realise that not all posts are bad posts, so often deleting hiding the first post effectively "deletes" an entire thread. So let me say for instance, I create a thread with good intention that has 10 good posts, but 40 bad ones. If I hide the first post I'm effectively deleting an entire thread (albeit in an extremely lazy fashion). That is why I iterate the fact it's best to go through an entire thread and weed out the bad posts (or for people to simply use the report function to help us moderators weed out the horrendous posts).

I hope that you reconsider not leaving. Ajuran hasn't actually posted in a while as any other alter ego. Please don't make him feel more important than he really is. If we give him attention, he will feed off of the attention.

He already won. And I am a fan now because even without him the hate continues....

We could effectively hide the first post and "delete" the thread, however if a thread is closed it may as well be "deleted" because no one effectively post in that thread anymore.

The only difference between a closed and "deleted" thread is that the "deleted" thread is hidden from the general populace except from moderators that can still effectively see it (with a line crossed out). A closed thread is still visible to everyone including normal NL members.

I prefer to filter as opposed to delete because I find just hiding the first post of a thread kind of lazy. Often what I find in a thread is a combination of good posts and bad ones. Wouldn't it just be better to filter out the bad ones and keep the good ones? Or ask for the original poster to alter the way they write the first post?

I don't think he has won. To me winning is effectively making everyone bow down to you and accepting defeat. No one has accepted defeat to Ajuran. In fact, quite the contrary. Now, there are some people who imitate his actions (that are just as immature and repulsive as he is). Some of these people are young Somalis and young Nigerians bickering it out. I don't believe that two wrongs equals a right, and unfortunately I can't keep up with the amount of Ajuran wannabes (be it Nigerian or Somali) that keep creating accounts doing the same thing he does.

It is my hope that eventually hopefully these trolls will get tired of posting rubbish. From my experience, often if you ban people they keep coming back under different monikers. They love the attention they are getting from moderators and those who are not moderators. They feed off of the attention. When you ban them, they create hundreds of new accounts and continue the same thing because they feel as if they are being heard and noticed.

My brother you frustrate me because you just don't get it/me so i go in peace. Do as you may... I hear you loud and clear, this is just business as usual and I look forward to the return of Arjun. Enjoy your week ahead and you won't hear or see me on this section.

I'm sorry that you feel that way. I personally think that NL is an overall success and I actually praise Seun for his fine work as a fellow programmer and developer. I wish I could have thought of something as effective as NL. NL has so much in so many sections that deserve to be checked out. From the programming section, to the computing section and other technology sections. So many things are covered on NL.

I think that the culture section (though not as good as it used to be) since some posters have left like that Jamaican girl who used to have some great posts on here is an overall success. The bad threads do not undermine or overpower the good ones. Sure, there are bad threads in every section, but the amounts of people on NL (thousands) is enough to make Seun quit his day job and just do this full time and live off of the revenue of this amazing site.

So it's ok if we agree to disagree. This NL generates a lot of traffic and revenue (for Seun). I wish I was actually the one who could have thought of the idea of creating something like NL, but thankfully it was another fellow Programmer/Computer Scientist.

It's always sad when one member leaves NL. I hope that you rethink rejoining us and try to ignore immature posters. Personally for me, I could never understand Immature posters even when I was younger (by younger I mean late teens 17 - 19). I think that there is so much to learn from NL that these trolls are just so meaningless in comparison to the wealth of information that one can find on here.

I don't know how long Ajuran has been here, but I don't think it has been longer than 5 years. I could be wrong though as I have only been here since 2010.

With that said, and I hope that you will listen to me. If we give people more attention than they truly deserve, of course they will keep coming back.

Now, in regards to creating a new screen name, that requires that you also create a new e-mail account. To do so, requires a surplus amount of time on one's hands. As I mentioned earlier, the reason why he kept creating different accounts is because I have banned him on numerous occasions. He even accused me of "Desert Justice" and practising "Sharia Law".

I think the newer trolls here though should be ignored for the most part. If people give them attention, they will believe that they are winning and believe that whatever they are doing here is actually affecting the self-esteem of the people that they are attempting to demean. Often if people ignore someone else, eventually they will believe that whatever they are doing is falling on deaf ears.

With that said, I personally don't want to see you leave.

You say 5, like that isn't significant and half a decade of abuse, but he's been here much, much longer than that. I've been here for almost three years myself, and Aj is not merely two years before my time. Absolutely not. You can ascertain the truth of that for yourself, if you care to. I've discovered quite a few of his older works through the thread links at the bottom of the page whilst viewing fresher threads of his.

Every time this issue is revisted, it's the exact same arguments from you, and yet the troll remains. Listen, (1) he is given attention, (2) he does keep coming back, and in fact he's active on a few accounts right now, (3) he isn't falling on deaf ears, he's changing perceptions and affecting how people see themselves, their self-esteem, as well as how they see others, (4) you've had numerous users complain of his prevalence on here on multiple occasions, often coming to a culmination after one of his particularly acerbic rants.

I know you're a decent individual, but on this, on modding, you are just maddeningly clueless.

Yes, he has. Yes, he is. And, yes, we do. It's like you're experiencing an alternate reality from the one at hand. I really wished you'd pull the wool from your eyes.

I want for you to be happy :-) and of course to not be upset with me cheesy. Your happiness means a lot to me.

I want you to be happy, too. But, even more than that, I wanted you to see the truth, a possibility I've slowly given up on. It can't always be so, tho.

In seeing his comments on google, complete with photos of people (well, two) known and dear to me, and setting out to oppose him, I didn't fathom that you might want him here. That was an unexpected twist, for sure. One I'm finally beginning to accept, and one that gives me no reason to remain, tho, at this rate, I'm certain he'll be around for many more years to come.

Take care, Fula.

Hun > Barbarian > Barbar > Badass

Hun: a term of endearment for badass people. Not to be confused with the softer, gooeyer, "hon" short for "honey" used for babies, boring folk and romantic soft spots.

Ex. So is life, hun. [Stoic]

Ex. I'll take that one, and you take that other one, hun. [Operational]

Ex.
A: Hun, I ...
B: Uh-Oh...*Braces oneself for discourse* [Serious]

Not to be confused with the, often domestic, filler "Hon":

Ex. Pass me the salt, hon.

Ex. Aw, that's so sweet of you. I do love you, hon.

Ex. Hon, where did I put the...? Please, please, please, tell me you've seen it. Goddamit, I'm going to be late!
