OK, let me go slightly further.

Any Igbo man reading this should be seated, lest you break your computer screen or kick your shoes at your TV screen.

There is a place called IPONRI, in Lagos.
For those who understand modern Yoruba writings IPO in Yoruba will be pronounced as IKPO in Igbo.

Igbos at times go by the title ONO NA IKPO AKU, which means SEATED ON A HEAP OF WEALTH. Basically IKPO means HEAP in English.

Now getting back to my tale, in IPONRI, there is a shrine there till today, which is maintained, exactly the same way the Umu Nris maintain shrines.

What this means, is that Nris (Igbos) made it to Lagos in ancient times. With this in mind, IPONRI now assumes a different meaning as it would have meant NRI JOINT or NRI SETTLEMENT or NRI HEAP.

It was an Oba in Agukwu that informed me of this in Dec 2019, and I had in mind to visit the place and look for this shrine, unfortunately Coronavirus had other plans for the nation

What I am trying to say is that Igbos made it way past Ife. Igbos are extremely ancient people

Just simple interest and intense research into the past can unveil monuments, antiques, ways of life and even entire new cities that no one would have though was there/ existed.

Nobody is arguing where ikwerre is from,....it is absolutely plausible that ikwerre is from Bini, they may be descendants of NRI priests and emissaries that left Bini

Onitsha people and the Anioma of delta fall into this category too.

Their typical characteristics is that they know they came from Bini but they posses Igbo culture and language which they can't explain

Truth be told, they are all Igbo (most probably Nri people) who were on religious/cultural assignment to Benin, and then went elsewhere to settle.

They all had very strong Igbo identity, until of recent that some of them allowed themselves to be veiled by lies coming from Benin.
Even Ikwerre ancestors named one of their settlements UmuIgbo/RumuIgbo which was a clear statement as to their ancestry, but the 419 nature of Nigeria has confused them totally, that they now lack knowledge of self.

The Ikwerre situation is akin to a father, prostrating before his son and declaring that his son is his father. It should be Benin prostrating to these people, and not the other way round.

As an Nri man, if I visit the Oba of Benin's palace, I will not bow. That is an Nri-Igbo privilege. Even if I am accompanied by the highest ranking Benin titled man, he will have to bow before the oba, but I will not bow.
We now have an odd situation, where very possibly Nri descendants, have allowed their history to be so twisted, to the extent that they now have to bow to a monarch, who they shouldn't bow to. ABOMINATION!!!!!!

Thanks Obalatule for reeling out those most Igbo of practices that Benin got from the Igbos (Umu-Nri). I'm already aware of most of them except the EGHO.

Let me just expand a little bit on ODUDUWA.
English = Them
Anambra Igbo = Fa
Imo/Abia = Ha
Anioma = Wa

Bear in mind that these activities were happening across the Niger i.e just beyond ANIOMA. So WA becomes the pronoun.
ONYE ODUDU WA = Their leader

BINI itself was coined from the Igbo phrase ILO OBI INU, which basically means THE ROAD/WAY OF (BITTER HEARTS)/ANGER.

The first Oba of Benin was Oba IWEKA, an Nri titled man. OBA is a title in Nri and it doesn't mean KING. Now the IWEKA appendage will usually be an alias.
So obviously he took on an alias that described the inhabitants of Benin (Ilo Obi Inu).
Every Igbo man knows the meaning of IWEKA (IWE means ANGER). For some reason the name has been corrupted to EWEKA.
The SW almajiris have also muscled into the argument by claiming that Bini is the short form for Ile-Ibunu. All these twisting of history has come about because Nri in its heyday, was a pacifist cultural society.

In the past, every Oba of Benin or Attah of Igala must be made an Ozo by Nri priests, as princes before they mount their respective royal stools.

I have heard the Isu, Igwekala, Kamalu e.t.c tales in the past by a prof. from Imo state, but I have never heard my people (The Nris) talk about it, and the deep traditionalists in my clan have never mentioned them, so because of that, and the fact the it is hard to prove, I normally do not bring up that issue, as I will not be able to back the tales up with proofs. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. It simply means I cannot back them up with existing evidence.

Haaaa!!

Pls let me see ur authority

This your new twist Lol! I'll give this one a benefit of the doubt. What needs done in this country is massive archeological findings. All the ones done in time past we're carried out by the British. From Nok, to Igboukwu, Benin and Ife. Is it not a shame to this country that after those years, no historian has taken it upon themselves to seek foreign grants to do more.

Your presido doesn't even have a WAEC certificate and you expect he will know the meaning of grant. You want him to send his namas to your compound

Binis where actually an offshoot of an ancient Igbo group which also included the"Isu" group of Igbos and the ARO,...The ISU and idu(Bini) and Aro along with two other relatives which included the igala ancestors, that's why Igbos,Bini and igala use the word "isee" to seal prayers signifying the original five branches.

Bini are a branch of the Igbo race. They left Nri under the leadership of Igodo to found Igodomigodo due to nso - ani. Hence Bini language and culture is similar to Igbo.

The Bini Igue Festival is borrowed from Nri Iguaro festival.

The Bini 4 days of the week - Eken, Afon, Orien, Nkwon were borrowed from Nri.

The Bini succession by primogeniture is an adaptation of the Okpalabisi Igbo system that grants total rights of succession to the first son.

The customary Bini breaking of Kolanut is also derived from Nri. 'Onye wetere oji wetere ndu'.

The New Yam festival is a carry over from Nri. It is still celebrated with pomp and pageantry in Benin.

The Ogiso dynasty of Igodo migodo is Igbo. Ogie - so means leader who must be followed.

Till date Nri Priests are important in the coronation functions of the Obas of Benin.

The word OKORO which is the finest specimen of the male species amongst Igbos, also means Prince in Bini.

Most people don't know that even Bini counting is very similar to Igbo counting.

Do you know that the Bini still use the Igbo word EGO, EGHO for money.

Many Bini towns still bear their Igbo names till date eg ISIUWA, IGUOBAZUWA.

The Benin Prince called Oduduwa /Izoduwa /Imaduwa who left to Ife just 900 years ago bears his Igbo name and its meanings on leadership is clear to every Igbo.

Wow.. Stop lieing wit such comfidence

money is called Igho in benin

Igbos have started with lies again ooo

Thank God for the early Portuguese explorers. Please read and weep

Joao de Barros in his accounts wrote of a possible pre-Christian influence in ancient Benin Kingdom:- “Among the many things which the king D. Jodo learnt from the ambassador of the king of Benin and also from Joao Afonso d Aveiro of what they had been told by the inhabitants of these regions was that to the east of Benin Kingdom at twenty moons journey which according to their account and the short journeys they made would be about two hundred and fifty of our leagues (5.556km or 3.456 is a league) there lived the most powerful monarch of these parts who was called “Ogane”. Among the pagan chiefs of the territories of Benin, Ogane was held in as great veneration as is the supreme Pontif with us.

“In accordance with a very ancient custom, the King of Benin, on ascending the throne, sends ambassadors to Ogane with rich gifts to announce that by the decease of his predecessor, he has succeeded to the Kingdom of Benin and request confirmation.

To signify his assent, the Prince Ogane sends the King a staff and a head piece of shining brass fashioned like a Spanish helment in place of a crown and scepter. He also sends a cross, likewise of brass to be worn round the neck, a holy and religious emblem similar to that worn by the KNIGHTS of the order of Saint JOHN.
Without these emblems the people do not recognize the King as lawful ruler, nor can he call himself truly king.”

“All the time this ambassador is at the court of Ogane, he never sees the Prince, but only the curtains of silk behind which he sits, for he is regarded as sacred. When the ambassador is leaving, he is shown a foot below the curtains as a sign that the Prince is within and agrees to the matters that he has raised; this foot they reverence as thought it were a sacred relic”

“As a kind of reward for the hardships of such a journey, the ambassador receives a small CROSS, similar to that sent to the King, which is thrown around his neck to signify that he is free and exempt from all servitudes and privileged in his native country as the KNIGHTS are with us.

Nah! Ikwerre has nothing with Benin/Nri. Ikwerre origin is of Aro making. Sorry to say this but the Ikwerre themselves are hiding their true history, same as the Okrikans. For the Ikwerre, they have a slavery past. The Aros used what used to be part Etcheland/Ekpeye/Owerri to build a slave camp where captured hinterland slaves were kept to be shipped to the Americas. However, the end of slavery made the Aros to form a people of both Diali(freeborns) and Osu into a large kindred (Ikwerre). Okpo Wagidi of Isiokpo with the aid of other migrant hinterlanders merged the Ikwerre into one Chiefdom. This is why Isiokpo is the traditional head of all Ikwerreland. If you observe Aro Confederate communities in Igboland, you'll notice a trend of how they were formed.
1. AroNdizuogu (Imo) - Formed by Izuogu (who forcefully grabbed lands belonging to other communities to form a community of both (Diali) and (Osu) everyone became freeborn Aros.

2. AroNdikelionwu (Anambra) - Formed by Ikelionwu who did similar tact as Izuogu.

3. Ajali (Anambra) - Did same stunt as Izuogu

4. Ikwerre (Rivers)- Formed by Okpo Wagidi of Isiokpo. Everyone too became freeborn Aros.

5. Eshiet (Cross River)- Formed by an Aro in Calabar

6. Okrika (Rivers) - Formed by Aros as done in Ikwerre. Later Kalabari’s and other Igbo freeborn clans joined.

And so many Aro distant communities.

What you posess online and in text has no matching foundation in real terms. In other words, there is disconnect between who you purport to be and who you really are.
