So are you telling us that IPON means INNER and (O)RI means HEAD?

Brother this is the last time I will engage you on this issue and listen attentively.

Yoruba culture and theology is too vast for you to just come up and start parroting words and their meaning.

In Yoruba theology, Ori means a lot of things and one of it's many form is the Iponri

The ibori (sometimes ipori or iponri) symbolizes the ‘inner head’, that is the individual’s personal destiny (ori means head).

Like I said earlier, One's ori-inu (spiritual consciousness in the physical realm) must grow in order to consummate union with one's "Iponri" (Ori Orun, spiritual self).

That is why till today, the Ifa priests perform some ritual called "Ibori" and usually used to cleanse the Ori.

In the Iba’se (i.e. the prayer of praise), Iponri occured in that Ifa and occurred in other Odus of Ifa.
Iba Olodumare
Iba Ogege, Oba ti ngb’ aiye gun
Iba Onile
Iba Elawori
Iba’se ila Oorun
Iba’se iwo Oorun
Iba Ori
Iba Ori inu
Iba Iponri ti o wa l’Orun (Homage to the Spirit of the Higher Self who lives in the Invisible Realm of the Ancestors).
Iba Orunmila, Eleri ipin iku dudu atewo, oro to si gbogbo ona
etc.

The Yoruba culture is a living thing and not a product of fabrication. It is an authentic culture and you can't just come here as an uninitiated and think you will understand all word in literary terms.

Which is why the Oba's palace should come and learn real tradition from me.

Now getting back to the Portuguese explorers' reports, it is clear that Nri had
1. Political
2. Cultural
3. Spiritual
Overlordship over Benin

Political in the sense that the Eze Nri had the last say as to whether any Oba-ship aspirant was granted permission to mount the royal stool
Cultural, because even today, Benin still makes use of the 4 Nri market days e.t.c.
The spiritual angle is all encompassing as it meanders throughout the Benin cultural and political life.

Benin people even told the Portuguese that the Eze Nri was the greatest royal in the whole surroundings, so we know this is very authentic. This was when 419 was an unknown illness in Benin. WHen elders told the truth, and they told the visiting Portuguese the simple truth.

The funny thing was that the Benin chiefs did not mention anything about Ife or the Yorubas or any kingdom to the West to the Portuguese. I wonder why

Lol, you should speak about your own culture which is obviously non-existent or not that important for historians to take keen interest in it.

Again, you guys just see statements and think they should translate to the literary terms but most of those statements can only be understood by the initiated. That is why we have the concept of Awo and Ogberi.

You should rather devote your time to study your own culture devoid of false assertions and try to be original.

Banking on folktale when most of what I say is derived from the 16 Odu Ifa which you can compare to the bible and Quran of the foreign religions.

Just go online and read a little bit about the Odu-Ifas and see how intelligent our ancestors are in trying to create Ifa as a metaphysical mapping as a cognitive matrix. Each of the 16 Odus carry meaning and the culture of Yorubas are also embedded in them.

Have you wondered why the Yoruba culture and history are widely studied by historians with keen interest? Even among the African slaves transported across the Atlantic, the Yoruba culture is the strongest which explain why we have people with strong ties to their ancestors in the Americas. That culture is supreme and you don't need to do too much research before you can see it manifest in the Yoruba life daily.

I really feel sorry for you as an Igbo because even your kinsmen are dissociating themselves from their Igbo culture because they have nothing historical to be proud of about it. That is why you are struggling to lay the claim that all cultures are fabricated because your own culture is obviously Fabricated.

Igalas can be said to be Yoruba sub-group and that gives credence to my assertions that the Igbos most time derive their cultural/historical authenticity by attaching to the Yorubas.

You made mention that Igbos had Afa, just go now on google and look for where Afa originated from, it originated majorly from the Northern Igbos.

Even if you look at it, the Igalas conquered many Northern Igbo mini-states like Opi, Nsukka, Nsugbe, and etc.

Even if we are going to now link all these things back, It will still lead to the authentic one Ifa (Yoruba).

Or will you deny Afa originated mostly from Northern Igbo?

Afa divinition is found in all parts of igboland, my town is not in Northern igboland but The belief in AfA was used extensively in settling disputes, inquiring about lives and reincarnations and so on, yorubas just over blew the whole thing when it got to them.

Afa never originated from yoruba, yorubas got it from Igbos through igala
