Wait a minute,  he had to be punish regardless,  why waste all those energy circling around him (hardening his heart and so on) when the original intension was to kill him anyway?
If God is omnipotent, all powerful and omni whatever, he/she would just send down thunder to kill that single person. To follow your logic, he created the same pharaoh that he later lost control over, then, he managed to get a backdoor into his heart to harding it in order to impress some bunch of inbreeds(see what omo alaro wrote above from the bible)?

That says a lot about your God's workmanship.

BTW, thanks for correcting me. Who created the devil?

lots of crazy 'argument premise' going on here. ok first off, pharoah does not believe in God, pharoah worships something else. ok we are created on earth to be a physical representative of what obtains in the spiritual realm (heaven). so you are not on earth to just eat, shyttt, fork and then die. you have a purpose here. your core purpose here is to be an ambassador of heaven on earth. this is your core purpose on earth. what are your duties as an ambassador of heaven on earth ?
1, to procreate so as to continue the specie
2, to communicate with the heavenly realm (always stay in contact) so as to stay in sync.
3, to spread love to your fellow man as this is what obtains in heaven (love)

well if you are not doing all 3, then your purpose on earth is wasted. now its one thing for you to waste your purpose on earth, it is another thing to violate purpose number 3 by enslaving people and bringing them misery and pain while at the same time breaking purpose number 2 by creating and worshipping your own gods. this is especially dangerous seeing as pharoah is in a position of power and can influence millions away from God. what better way to instill the fear of God in him by having moses and aaron go up to him and tell him that the real God says you need to do this or else. then make him refuse so that when he sees the results he can start to believe that he may just be worshipping the wrong god. seeing as he is in a position of authority he can let others around him know that look, i think this moses fela has the right God and we are worshipping the wrong one (which exactly is what happened). he starts telling people that we are getting all this plague because the God of moses is stronger than our God. So basically the lord is trying to restore that sync between the heavenly and wordly realm and what better way to kill 2 birds with one stone than by
1, letting the biggest and baddest wolf in town know that he is the creator
2, destroying the biggest baddest wolf in town
Re: How Many Here Have Read The Bible From Cover To Cover. by buzugee(m): 6:05pm On May 26, 2011
you guys have to remember that the lord does not take kindly to people who try to throw the heavenly and earthly world out of sync. there has to be constant communication between these 2 realms so as to be in sync with each other. all the wrath in the old testament was directed at people who did this by either
1, worshipping idols
2, being evil and not loving your neighbor.

this provokes the wrath of God. then he sees that he cannot continue to get angry at his creation, so he sent jesus to die for us. this way he does not have to punish us physically anymore. it does pain him to punish us just like it pains every parent to discipline their child but the heart of man is rotten to the core and i can understand his wrath. i mean enslaving and selling another human being ? if i was God i would have done worse to all these diabolical humans. well now he doesnt have to do all that physical punishment anymore because of jesus.

Religion is life, that is why we keep having religious crisis in Nigeria. I believe so much in peaceful co-existence. The old testament is what it is old testament, but when Jesus came he taught us forgiveness and that God is love. He hates sin, but he still love sinners. Even when he was crucified, he still ask God to forgive them for they know not what they are doing. This brings to mind the story of Saint Augustine  as concerns the three persons in One God. That is the mystery of God that is above human understanding. Do you believe in miracles, If yest what is the scientific explanations to that?

I like your view and understanding of the bible. I equally be;ieve that you read where Christ said that old things have passed away and all things become new. As in new creation

I know and i believe that God is Good all the time

The scientific explanation to miracles is call the placebo effect. You don't need "God" to feel it. Besides,  a lot of things most people consider miracles  can be explained with no effort. The same reason you don't see miracle of people growing new legs and stuff like that.

I know a lot of people performing "miracles". My sister in-law is one of them,  she's an optometrist or ophthalmologist (have no idea which one is correct- basically, she's an eye doctor ). According to her, she has treated over 500 cataract related blindness. To them, she is a miracle worker.

@buzugee, Satan will be bound for a thousand years not forever. . .I do know about the after life but I just wonder exactly what it is, feelings, do you miss your people that sorts etc etc. . .

The bible is  manmade dominated by men just like many religions in the World. . .A woman is usually just a piece of meat in the bible except for a couple.

And also where it says you have to FEAR God, I have been thinking about that how can you love someone you fear or truly show your love if you are meant to fear the person/being/deity?
Re: How Many Here Have Read The Bible From Cover To Cover. by wilsonjay: 10:09pm On May 26, 2011
I'm not an atheist, just non-religious.
You will be shocked that there can be so many contradictions in single book. Its ridiculous; from contradictions in the sequence of creation to contradictions about the events at Jesus resurrection (number of angels, where and when things happened) etc.
It is a lot like the Nigeria we are determined to rebuild, a stark lie. If you took it to court as evidence, you will be severely compromising your case.

My brother you don't need to get to the other side only to discover the truth too late.
FOR THE SAKE OF THE DAY YOU ARE BORN ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR.

Re: How Many Here Have Read The Bible From Cover To Cover. by kandiikane(m): 10:22pm On May 26, 2011
@wilson jay, did Jesus pray to himself? Did he accept himself as the lord and personal saviour? When he got baptised did he pray to himself?

This is very contradictory how can in Christianity Jesus prays to GOD as his lord and then in the same Christianity people pray to Jesus as their lord? Did he say to pray to him because that is what is being done. . .He was the son of God, he is God. . .I too I am the Daughter of my Father, I am my father(characteristics) does that make my father and I one? Jesus sits next to God, how does that make the two one being?

God isn’t religion; and I’ve read the Holy Bible (AV) from cover to cover, even continued research on it. What’s important is for his creation, of whom we are his own, to believe in him. Whether a universal creator is called God, Heavenly Father, Divine Consciousness, Divine Being, Elohim, Yahweh, and the list continues, it comes down to one crucial point…I am that I am.

CHRISTIANITY IS NOT A RELIGION, BUT A LIFE THAT REFLECT THE TRUE MIND OF GOD THROUGH CHRIST .YOU CANNOT DEFINE THE DEEP THINGS OF GOD BY MERE IN-DEPT OF YOUR THINKING FACULTY. AM NOT HERE TO DEFEND A RELIGION BUT A CONFIRMATION OF WHAT I EXPERIENCE WHEN I SURRENDER MY LIFE TO CHRIST. IF WE CONTINUE TO DELIBERATE ON SPIRITUAL THINGS USING OUR HUMAN FACULTY WE WILL NEVER GET TO ANYWHERE.

IF YOU CAN STILL FEEL YOUR HEARTBEAT EVERY TIME YOU WOULD ALWAYS FIND AN EXPLANATION FOR WHILE IT REMAIN SO . BUT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL STOP . BUT SOMEBODY DOES , AND THAT IS YOUR MAKER. PLS PRAY TO HIM TONIGTH . LET HIM REVEAL HIMSELF TO YOU.

I have read 90% of the Bible, most when I was younger. I've grown out of that crap jo

I still go to church, because it would break my parents heart to see me leave. They've done so much for me so I'll just pretend. Otherwise, it's just a facade. Religion is just a crutch.

I do not know what you mean by Christianity is not a Religion but I will give you the definition of religion:

Religion is a cultural system that creates powerful and long-lasting meaning by establishing symbols that relate humanity to beliefs and values.[1] Many religions have narratives, symbols, traditions and sacred histories that are intended to give meaning to life or to explain the origin of life or the universe. They tend to derive morality, ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human nature.

ekt_bear's point is the prove to you that the "odua" were exposed to Christianity before "your people", so the fact that "odua dey read Bible" should not be surprising to a historically educated person. Unfortunately, you're not.

Christianity may be a "foreign" religion, nevertheless, it's still a religion celebrated throughout Africa. Nobody is forcing Nigerians to become Christians in this modern time, they have the choice to turn back to any religion they choose to practice.

i am enjoying this thread grin,, i know the so called holy books are written by men with their different level of understanding at those time they were written. i believe that without the books lipsrsealed, human can live a comfortable life base on basic education undecided. many people have lost their commonsense and reasoning as a result of beliefs and faith about their religion cry. i remember a muslim guy trying to prove a point defending the holy Quran. says "there is no commonsense or you dont need commonsense in practising what is written in the HOly Quran, just obey the written words in the book from cover to cover without questioning grin grin grin." i laughed when i read the guy's post.
Especially in this country, people have been brain washed and fed with many nonsensical things, Religion is one of diseases this country has to cure before we progress from this backwardness we are in.

Actually, he is!

First, he created man, then, created the devil to chase him all his life, when the devil succeeds, he punishes the man for that allowing the devil to succeed
First, he harden the heart of Pharaoh, then he asked him to let his "people" go knowing full well that the poor guy has no way of changing his mind even if he wanted.

Then comes the big bang, bang. All the first born are to die, how smart! smiley

And this is why it is apparent that they have created another God - 'the human God' that is 'human-like', petty, and contradictory.

Dear brother that said good bye to Bible after reading it. My message to you is that wether you like it or not, you will be judged by Christ at the last day. In your case, your portion is hell fire eternally for rejecting the word of the creator.

When looking at the bible with a necked eye, it does seem to have contraditions. But when God begans to reveal to your heart and mind through studying the so-called contradictions are laid to rest. It's more to understanding the bible than just reading it. Words must be traced to it's original language, passages must be taken into context, and God will reveal his reasoning behind His acts (i.e. Hardening of Pharoah's heart). Too, this is a faith walk. We are not going to know EVERY SINGLE thing while on earth. Sometimes God doesn't make sense but rest assured that His wisdom is infinite and much higher than ours.

If we had the ability to know God in His fullness and reason on His level, we'd be God. For instance, even considering how great and intelligent computers are, they can't outsmart humans because they only do what we tell them or create them to do.

The nature man, or human beings can understand the things of God, for they are spiritually discerned. The main points we do know
1. Thru Adam and Evil every human developed a sin nature and is separated from God. God said all souls that sin must die.
2. Jesus suceeded where Adam and Eve failed and choose not to sin against God
3. Jesus died for us based on #1. He paid the price, taking away the wrath of God----if we accept Him into our lives as payment for our sins
4. We now have hope, victory over the power of sin and death.
5. Those who accept this will live with God eternally; those who do not will have to die for their own sins and be eternally separated from God

My prayer is that God will enlighten your hearts of understanding that you may see the glory of God thru Jesus Christ
Re: How Many Here Have Read The Bible From Cover To Cover. by MsSophista(f): 1:11pm On May 27, 2011
God is not intimidated over sin and that is why He did not hide any unrighteous acts. Bringing sin and darkness to light is a great method to ridding it.
We ALL have a free choice and God will not infringe upon anybody's right to know Him and to sin. He is not into forced servitude or slavery.

As we read the passages and see scandals and grievous things, lies, betrayal, fornication, adultery, mistreating our fellow man, compromise, haters of God and good, pride, arrogance, prejudice, murder--and these is just a few----we should prayfully consider ourselves and what's in our own hearts. How would we know what sin is if we didn't have example?

The Good News is that it is a book of hope for all of us who confess that we have to somehow missed God's perfect way, even if it's a negative thought that we've embraced. The point is that God loves and will forgive us all when we turn to Him; but the problem is that not everyone accepts or loves God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

It is not bad to have questions but don't runaway from those questions or close down your heart to God. The best way is to pray and search for the answer and God will surely reveal Himself to a pure, open heart! I'm willing to bet my life on that. And that fact, that He is an awesome, supreme God who loves us with an everlasting love
