From my limited knowledge about Starlink (as I haven't acquired one yet), I don't think there's a need for you to bypass the Starlink modem since you still intend having access to it upstairs in and around your bedroom. I'm of the opinion this might be useful for people who use the mesh system with multiple nodes scattered around the house. Meanwhile, if you have to use the Starlink adapter connected to the modem, the connected LAN cable will go into the port marked blue. The other four (4) ports are there for you to make a direct LAN connection between that router and a device e.g. your TV, laptop, etc., thereby bypassing the Wi-Fi connection from that router.

Thanks Cavendish

I go try again when I reach house tonight and provide feedback

You have to use the adapter. And like he said, plug in the blue port. It’s usually marked WAN.

Thanks a lot Cavendish and Seunpayne.. Aim now achieved

CavendishPlex called on phone and we did it together... I owe that guy two bottles of Heineken and Nwkwobi anywhere I jam am
grin

I have achieved exactly what I have been trying to since

Powerful speed down and upstairs.

Before this connection, I was getting 43/45Mbps downstairs, but now it has increased and network is strong as well

Re: Starlink Unboxing & Speedtest In Nigeria by CavendishPlex: 10:50pm On Apr 18, 2023
Lol. I'll take you up on the Nkwobi soon. It's always a pleasure to help however I can.

With that speed, now you're giving me all the reasons to work harder so I can afford Starlink especially now FiberOne has stepped on the gas pedal by frustrating their customers.

do you get starlink 5ghz band on the new router? If yes, do all your devices detect the starlink 5ghz band of the new router

Amazing. So I’ve never been hung up on speed tests. Starlink is fast! The only thing available that is faster is my office wifi and MTN 5G. One is only for work and the other hardly ever works. Everything I’ve thrown at starlink, it has handled effortlessly. Still waiting for heavy rain to see what the experience is like but so far…great buy for me

This Elon musk guy has finally broken the data cap barrier from other service providers with his cheap and quality services, but it still baffles me that the acceptability is still very low, could it be that people are scared? I just finished installing one for my office, mehn.. the speed is something else. Another interesting thing is the fact that the speed you are getting from starlink with its price cannot be compared with a fibre optic monthly subscription. Guys can we give this guy a publicity.

Anyways I based in Abuja if anyone has a connect

Not that the acceptability is low.. It's the price for the starter kit that is the problem.. Imagine if the starter kit is around 100/150K.. E go don flood naija like pure water

But don't get it twisted ooo.. Plenty people don onboard starlink..

Personally, the stuff dey give me joy cos i don too waste money on top yeye ISPs. Now I am happy and satisfied with my Starlink

Hi Snart303, I see this gentleman has helped you answer all your questions. I'll add some clarifications.

1. To get your accurate service address, go to your Google map on your phone with location turned on. Make sure you at the place you want the starlink installed. Find the place on the map and click on the spot. You'll see details about the place. You scroll up and you'll see the PLUS CODE of that location. That's what you'll put in the service address.

2. By AC current and consumes like 20-50w. There are technical ways of running it on DC current but don't think you'll need all that wahala. If not YouTube is your friend.

3. It's completely unlimited in Nigeria.

6. When you buy it comes with residential plan. With this it can only work on your one location. Outside it, it won't work. If you travel, you can be lucky enough to change service address like chairman said, but it's not guaranteed and will take time for starlink to recognise the change. And even if you succeed, when you return to where you were, you may not be able to change back the address to where you were before. Residential isn't for moving around.

If you want to move around easily, you can while being in residential plan sub for portability feature which is extra $10. With that you can move around all Nigeria and in future all continent of Africa without wahala.
Portability is being removed in the USA and may also be removed here too.
So you are left with the next choice which is to change your plan to Roam plan. Here you pay $53 per month (that's what I'm using) and can move anywhere coz roam plan has no service address input. And you can pause for plan any month you don't want to use it. You can do that in residential, coz you must pay every month except you cancel starlink completely.

Attached is example of plus code

Thanks for the explanation as regards the subscription am I also gonna be paying in black market rate?

So this roaming you talking about will I have to add it to my plans upon ordering/buying the router ? Or it’s a plan I can just include in my subscription monthly if I wish to ?

another reason it's not popular in Nigeria aside the kit price is the whole you must pay in dollars thing and the need for 24 hours electricity. To some, buying starlink means they also have to buy an inverter plus battery and solar panels. We are able to buy it because we already own a means of getting 24 hours electricity. I am not complaining since more starlink users in Nigeria will lead to network congestion and slower speeds which will bring about the 1tb peak time monthly fair usage policy

Please is the other sides with white stuff standing only on the aluminium roofing sheet? I don't seen to see nail line to signify there is wood underneath there? I'm asking as my friend intends to do a roof mount too and we are having difficulty in the install.

Find where the wood is on your roof to nail down on.

I agree. The need for 24 hours electricity is a huge factor. No power means no internet. As I have posted here multiple times...until the power situation in the country is resolved, the country will continue to lag behind. Everything runs through electricity. Constant electricity is critical!

If you have 450K to spend on Internet, you also have money to get a powerbank that will keep it on.

Exact same experience here too. All my devices see it, but my Samsung Note 10 Plus usually doesn't. Sometimes I just see it pop up. Off and on

And majority do NOT have 450K to spend on internet. This clearly Buttresses my point. The price point of the device clearly eliminates most from being able to purchase. Hence, the reason it will not pickup in Nigeria. The few of you that can afford it...enjoy!

the fewer the starlink users in Nigeria, the better for us. I don't want slower speeds/network congestion or 1tb fair usage policy. I am sure no starlink user in Nigeria will want any of these

Mine went off when the rain went 'Gaga' and immediately came back when the rain subsided

I think heavy will affect it while it will work during mild/medium rain

Pretty much Accurate. Because I still see 60 Mbps while it was raining a few days ago. Spectranet never see that one even when all things bright and beautiful.
