truth about prostrating in Yoruba culture. 1. you bow your head lightly to someone a little older or honored as a sign of respect. 2. you bend your head with your hand touching your knee or the ground to an elderly. 3. you fall completely on the floor if you offend someone(s) or if you are requesting for something unwilling to give out. 4. pre-colonial: you fall on the floor rolling in complete humility if you offend an older and powerful individual. so prostrating during wedding shows that you are seriously demanding their daughter which they are unwilling to give out. it's a sign that you are begging with humility for someone you love. |
