see what he says about DFU? i know the dude is on to something right form the 2.0beta days. now i know your opinion of him, tezz, but check it, he was first with some code zingers in the 2.0 firmware that pointed to a lot of things.

he correctly predicted the renaming of .Mac to something else (MobileMe), and the Sgold 3g/gps code. i don't know, but i have some faith in this dude.

afterall he made it a little easier for us all to free our phones (him and fredrik grevstad of ziphone GUI fame).

heres hoping he lays off that iphonesimfree baseband patch method of unlock and embrace the devteams bootloader hijacking method. i want unlocks to be permanent and not broken by updates, such as pwntool gives with the beta.

speaking of which, i hope pwnage works with 2.0. crossing my fingers because winpwn is rubbish and wrecked one iphone already.

u probably used the beta release of winpwn before the 1.0 release. The latest release is pretty decent and stable. & yeah, 2.0 has already been jailbroken and unlocked (the day after the firmware beta was leaked) but the guys are not releasing it just yet.

Let's see what Zibri et al can come up with. As for me, i'll believe zibri's genius when i see it in action.


i hope they crack this stuff as soon as possible. I've ordered for a $100 itunes gift card, so i should be able to at least buy Super Monkey Ball and Crash Bandicoot for now. naturally, i'll pig out on all the free apps that are any good.

no, i tried with version 1 which is more stable than the alpha but still not quite stable enough. the trouble is when building custom .ipsw, it crashes midway. thought it was vista so i tried on xp. still the same.

pwnage works well for me though. and the beta that was cracked in march will have been patched by now.

i have used the latest 1.0 release to create @ least 4 different custom ipsw files. I believe there have been 3 minor releases for version 1.0 so you may want to get the latest (which is probably 1.0.3 or something). The very first 1.0 release was indeed quite buggy but the bugs were quickly fixed. I only had a problem in version .99 which of course was beta.

ok, got itunes 7.7 last night, just installed and im browsing the App store now. not bad, but i still think installer has nothing much to fear-for now.

im holding off updating yet because i don't have an itunes store account- will remedy that by monday-and i don't want to lose installer. you need an itunes account to get even the free stuff, and so far im not blown away by what i see here.

still hanging on to 1.1.4 until monday.

UPDATE: couldnt wait until monday, so went ahead and got my itunes store account already. downloading the free apps now.

still holding off upgrading the iphone, i hear some are getting bricked already with no way to revert since ziphone wont downgrade BL

bible app is freebie. DRM is one of the easiest things to strip off, so keep your fingers crossed and wait a couple more weeks. we can thank nokia's yeye "symbian signed" for influencing apple to drm their apps.

by the way, ipod games bought on an itunes account are easily synced to other ipods, besides your purchases are linked to your account, not the particular ituines you used to buy stuff. at least thats what i think.

you can bet tomorrows sunshine the App store will fall to piracy. since when have DRM'd music being strip bare of their copy protection? since before DVD Jon. sometimes its a good thing, some of these apps are overpriced (not as expensive as ngage games though, honest) and the free stuff are mostly dog turd.

goodbye BSD Subsystem (simport, appflow and other gear are off too since they need BSD utilities which cydia replaces. but from my unix experience i feel cydia gives a better implementation of shell tools, just like the coders assert.)

i have succeeded in bricking 2 iphones already-all mine, thankfully, and im willing to sacrifice this 8gigs (my sister's, but she wont mind too much. she loves LG prada and is wrapped u now having fun) and see what cydia has to offer.

its the same phone im giving over to 2.0

the 16gigs will be 1.1.4 for now until zibri or the devteam liberate it.

The minor versions of course were for bug fixes.

you misunderstood me, logica, what i mean is the only upgrade from 0.99 to 1.0.x is still a Release Candidate irrespective of minor upgrade levels. 0.99 was alpha, RC1 qualifies as beta. so far no release is even gamma to qualify as RC2 yet talk more of a stable 1.0 release.

whereas pnwage is going 2.0, winpwn is still locked in a testing stage. we can blame cmw's decision to use qemu for that (even though we must give him credit for the daunting task.)

or maybe windows is the culprit. linux should have no problem as it shares the same root as os x.

in any case, im not comfortable enough yet with winpwn to give to my anorak buddies.

we can blame that on the fact that i left my brain in "Park".

lol, actually i used winpwn for the first bricking (some idiot's tut i followed).

second brick, after downgrading to 1.1.3 (poor signal reception after upgrading, thought it was baseband related) the phone only shows a white screen after the apple bootup logo. when i connect to itunes its not recognized.

you're actually the 1 making the proverbial mountain.

1st, the creator of winpwn was only being as upfront and academic as possible when he adds the RC1 suffix to the releases as he felt his product was not good enough to be called a full release (possibly he is a perfectionist). his releases are no worse than many other software we have been using for the jb/unlock process. all of them are liable to bricking (as accurately pointed out by pete) but of course the bricking incidents are reduced to a minimum. like i pointed out, i only had a problem with the .99 beta and the very 1st 1.0 release. and again the point i made was i had said there were minor releases for 1.0 and u said there was only one 1.0 (basically saying there are no other releases either minor or major). next u said pwnage is going 2.0 and winpwn wasn't, and again u were wrong. there really shouldn't be a big deal though, since winpwn is simply supposed to be a windows port of pwnage.

and .99 must have had both alpha and beta, but of course the beta is the version released to the wider community for testing. alpha s/w as i'm sure u know is usually only released to a restricted community of testers. so u cannot say .99 was just alpha.

currently it jailbreaks, activates and unlocks 1st gen iphone with 2.0 firmware.


it does not unlock 3G iphones for now.

its for Mac only (lucky me!) so windows users will have to wait for cmw's winpwn-and the site is down now.

however if you have leopard 10.5.4 you will experience probs.


if you cant wait for winpwn and you dont have a mac but have good bandwidth, look for kalyway or iatkos 2.0 for OSx86: it allows you to run mac OS X leopard on normal windows intel computers.


on the pwnage link above are links to bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6. get them, but if u have used pwnage 1.1 then u probably already have them.

if you bootneuter you can always downgrade because bootloader sigchecks are unshackled from the baseband. if however you load up 2.0 from a pre-pwned ipsw to an un-pwned iphone you can't go back down, baseband will be stuck at 4_05_04G.

at least these are my thoughts. when i was on 2.0 beta i downgraded back to 1.1.4.

2.0 is okay, appstore tells me im in an unsupported country. some itunes-downloaded apps are not syncing. will post up some screenshots soon as i get some time.

super monkey ball is not working. i tried putting it in /Applications with ispazio pc suite but i needed to set permission to 775 i think following a tut om haklab.
