Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Dejsam(m): 5:31pm On Oct 07, 2009
Dejsam:

@lovala,

its the same as the null modem cable.(both ends  must be female)but the issue is that most of the ones u get from computer shops are straight cables,meaning that they are not crossed so u have to do the crossing manually.so all u need to do is get a multimeter used in measuring electrical values then the null modem cable will be cut in to two equal halves from the middle then u now cross both sides like this:

pin1---------------------------------pin5

pin2---------------------------------pin3

pin3---------------------------------pin2

neutral-----------------------------neutral(naked wires)

with this crossing method u can use it with any receiver or loader.either strong or echolink or starsat,etc

i hope this helps u out.

this is just a correction as i didn't include the neutral as posted earlier.

@ fasone,
no.its pin1-------------------------------5

thats what i use up till tommorrow.and it works with all receiver.100% sure of what i am saying.u may give it a trial to confirm what i am saying.

Honorable members in the house, am confused with this RS 323 of a thing.

My questions
*why must i cut the cable at the middle and reconncet it inline with the posted diagram.
*Why cant i use it the way i bought it. i.e without cutting it.
*What importance does the one i cut has over the uncut ones

Let ur answers be explanatory enogh.

Cheers.

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 9:08am On Oct 08, 2009
@jayron,
The original null modem is already crossed for you and you don't need do any manual crossing of your own. But just in case it isn't that's why dejsam suggested you cross it by yourself. I bought mine directly from a satellite equipment dealer and I've been using it like that without manually crossing the wires. I think you can go to a satellite store and buy one. Try it first and see if it works before attempting to cross it. Chances are that it may not need any further adjustments from you.

And by the way, it is RS-232 and not 323.

Hi Profs, i would like u to enlighten me more on the so call JUJU CARD or ABRACADADRA card. Want to where i could get them n what advantage do they have on the Receiver. Also what model of Decoder suits it.

@jayron,
The JUJU CARD or ABRACADADRA card are one and the same. However, we generally don't discuss such issues here in the open for obvious reasons. You can reach any of our esteemed gurus one on one to be more enlightened.

@Jaron,

Bros you are too Inquisitive… Yoruba pple say ‘’oro tie gun ba so orun lo ti wa’’  cheesy ;Dand ‘’eyi ti okete ba ba ile so, ni ile ngba’’… sorry for this( se I no breach house rule?)  grin ;Dif you read FTA very well, u will concur that the RF cables are always male and female… but for the purpose of ur usage, it must be crossed meaning that the pins/individual cable connection from one end to the other must be crossed. To achieve this, u must get a multimeter to test it ( if u cant buy one, just walk to any electrician to do the cutting and alternating for u and make sure he test it or else ur decoder will be at risk…
Find below the crossing analysis again:
pin1---------------------------------pin5

pin2---------------------------------pin3

pin3---------------------------------pin2

neutral-----------------------------neutral (naked wires)

check this link again https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-152871.0.html

Let me know if u have further questions, its good to ask questions, cos it gives u edge over other and leads to perfection,
Jaron, carry go,

As regards the RS 232 cable, Baba-Egun put it to rest in the past, and I similarly put it in FTA FAQ. You can get the link here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-152871.0.html#msg3466408

@jayron
Do try and read FAQ thread on FTA on this link. By so doing, it will help you further in any explanation you may have with anyone on one to one. See it here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-152871.0.html#msg2534839

I mean RS cable, as said by george, must often u get the male and female from computer village unless u are specific on what u want, u will not get the type george is using, cheers
Enjoy the birdsssssssssss

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 9:38am On Oct 08, 2009
@jayron,
The first and most important tool you need for FTA is an open and inquisitive mind. And that I'm glad to say you have in abundance. Besides that you don't really need much other than the basics e.g

1. A select list of spanners and screwdrivers.
2. A plumb (for making sure your pole is perfectly vertical).
3. A magnetic compass to help you in checking your azimuth to make sure. This will give you a rough idea of which direction to point your dish and save you a lot of time.
4. Online resources like www.lyngsat.com for checking out tracking frequencies.
5. Other online resources like www.dishpointer.com for checking the azimuth and elevation of any satellite for your location.

As you mature in this hobby however, you will discover you become less and less dependent on the compass as then you will be more familiar with your co-ordinates and with your tracking frequency any bird becomes game with the right size and type dish, no matter its position.

@badaru,
I think it's ignorance that makes some people go to that extent of advertising juju as if it's an on the shelf item. These providers are usually merciless with such smart alecs as they can go to any length just to put them where they rightly belong-in jail.

it is better, to ignore such people. and even better not to talk about it on this thread as watching paytv without subscription is illegal.
