Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Emeritus153: 10:36pm On Oct 09, 2009
@alancruise, canal intl is nt there on sirius4, it was there b4. Aljazeera is nt there since the time i've been using it. @olatiler, daarsat decoder is freezing crtv even if u get 100%. It use to be like that sometimes, only what u can do is to loop srong with ur daarsat decoder. Happy weekend.

@George

You have come a long way and been doing a tremendous work by your posts and response/solutions to newbies questions. Ranging from installation, disecq switch, decoders questions, lnb. You have vast knowledge experience due to possession of most equipments and trying out new ideas/suggestion. That’s why I suggested you should apply for the post of assistant moderator - technology section. Plus you have access and time to be on net (atleast an hour in a day) which is one of the criteria of a moderator. Please apply.

Also remember the Sonicview SV4000 I told you about, it has a feature which enables it to identify satellites, I was trying to check and input frequencies for w3a and sirius4 while using single dish (pas7/10 is also attached through disecq) and going through the frequencies it identified Panamsat4 at 72E. How possible is this. I will check and post the frequency. NB: It seems all satellites have a frequency on which the satellite name and position is broadcasted for identification by special equipments and decoders with such features. Can you receive Panamsat4 at your location?
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by BUTONEDAY(m): 10:00am On Oct 10, 2009
@ Microgiant,
It looks like your receiver is from America and not from Europe.I think that is why it is indicating Panamsat4 72 E.

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by microgiant: 12:25pm On Oct 10, 2009
@Butoneday

Yes I bought it from US through this site
I got to the site while looking for information on cable box that was being used to descramble cable satellite tv in Nigeria. After I purchased the unit and couldn't install, that was when i started my search on net which landed my on nairaland.

Panamsat4/Intelsat 4 is at 72E, on lyngsat only C-Band is beamed to africa, but i am using a 90cm dish and got the signal on a higher frequency range (above 10xxx) that's why I'm asking this question.
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 1:33pm On Oct 10, 2009
@microgiant,
Yes indeed. Panamsat 4 is now renamed intelsat 4 and I'm getting the c-band africa signals on my motorized mesh. I used ZNBC and Congo Tv tps to track (3712 v, 2083 sr and 3729 v, 10500 sr). And yes. All satellites have a way of broadcasting their co-ordinates to recieving equipment which can then decode them. That is why USALS can work well just by knowing the position of one satellite in the arc.

As for being an assistant moderator, I think its up to Seun to decide on that. I have already done my bit.

George_D is correct. Panamsat was bought by Intelsat - so PAS7/10 are now Intelsat 7/10

Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 7:53pm On Oct 10, 2009
@Paps1,
SABC and eTV are both public broadcasters from South Africa and most times their content criss-cross each other in different ways. While one cannot be said to be better than the other, SABC seems to have an edge in the sense that they broadcast on three distinct channels i.e, sabc 1, 2 & 3. And until recently they also had a sports bouquet covering three stations. Here is a dated link which compared the two outfits years back:

alancruise:

@george_d,pls help confirm d station on sirus 4?

@alancruise,
A few stations seem to be playing hide and seek right now on Sirius 4 but I can confirm to you that globecast promo station is still available there. So also the Isreali Network channel which I got on mpeg4. The regulars are there too: BVN, voxafrica, walf tv and STV1. Aljazeera comes and goes. Still don't know why.
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by Paps1: 8:24pm On Oct 10, 2009
@George_D thanks for link.am wondering apart from the etv and Sabc and Gospel stations doesnt SA have any free to air entertainment stations.if u ask me i will say that SA has the best entertainment stations at least for now.i hope Ghana and Nigeria stations would grow far better
Re: Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite Tv (part 4) by GeorgeD1(m): 8:26pm On Oct 10, 2009
@Paps1,
SA may have had an edge in entertainment years back but certainly other african countries are fast rising up to the plate. You need to check out multi-tv to see what I mean.

Buvs,

Just wanna know, is there a possibility of fixing the Strong SRT 4653x remote control (without which one cannot perform any meaningful task with the decoder? Mine slipped and fell from my wife's hand and stopped working. If it can't be repaired, is there the possibility of buying just the remote control? i hope in future Strong Technologies of such happenings.

Most remote controls could be fixed successfully unless it fall in liquid or the battery polarity is interchanged wrongly. What u do is have it opened up, u will see a rectangular box-like device on the panel sometimes close to the battery compartment and not on the surface where buttons are. It has two legs that are usually soldered down on to the board, one of it may have removed or cut due to continual falls. now, use your ingenuity to rebuild the broken leg and solder it back. You should be OK, you can then use a little super glue to hold the device to the board to prevent future occurrence due to shaking from constant usage. u can then save your money.hope this help u and others with similar remote issues.
@Fasone:
Thankx for your internetion. But it can after my dealer had provided me with another one. However, I’ve noted what is to be done in case such a situation arises in the future. I’m very grateful

@ emsky,
DFTV might be a code for old roger. This term was used in season two by enitan. By the way what is the source of this info? If your phone # is in your profile, I would have called you for a discussion.
