“However, we further gathered that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries, including nearby African countries.
Fed. Govt cannot see that other Govt in those countries are doing well and challenge them to get us out of this recession, is imitating them to increase data which will force some people out of online business, how do we get to this point, very soon we will be paying tax for Oxygen, so that the poor can die.

Thanks for this. However, (petition does not work in Nigeria as much as it works in developed Nations i.e. online petition), in addition to this, let your organization involve a lawyer, file an action against NCC and join the GSM operators as parties. Set aside a date that Multitude will besiege their offices nationwide and occupy for a whole day. I will sign the petition but that in itself cannot restrain them.

thank you. however i dont own or work in an organization. plus the petition is to serve as an appeal, and i really have faith the goverment is going to listen to us this time.

[size=28pt] Please tell me what an average Nigerians benefited from Government..... government failed to provide power still they increase fuel, no water, no road,-----Telecom are burning fuel every minute, because no power, how can they cope with this policy, cos there will be a call drop across the country from citizens. This telecom is a private enterprise not government owned biz, government have licensed them and they pay tax as well, if any telecom decides to sell the air time much more lower than any other telcom that barely make them break even would government stop them for not breaking even? how can government view this if Nigeria has the cheapest call and data rate across the world. Recently DSTV slashed all there subscription across Africa accept Nigeria, what did our government say. To my own thought we need engineering technocrats to pilot the affairs of this country, people who understand the technicalities of any problem, and combat such with engineering approach instead of using policy. "policy is more like a decree", it makes people hate and fear ones government. If you want to use this policy to stop people from using social media, it will not work, because majority of ppl who can buy it no matter the cost are the ppl in the social media, every problem has its own peculiarity of approach so far I may call this double taxation. All the African country he is mentioning have light, good roads, hospital, school, etc, and the government love the citizens, and the citizens love their leader. so I don't believe that claim is true. U guys r d reason why the current FG keep churning out insensitive taxes and policies without sparing a tot about how it will affect the common man.....imagine an ncc director claiming dat we have one of d cheapest data price compared 2 oda countries in Africa....smh

Can you point out were in the article an NCC director stated the bold part?

I am tired of repeating myself, all NCC did was set a floor price, Its your duty to understand the pros and cons of floor pricing and its relevance in this age and time.

But you can ask me what you don't understand. Who vex epp? Even if you wan vex, no be with your mate dem?

But i think you should know this-

Unlike voice, there was no floor price for data before now so NCC recently gave a directive that all data plans/offerings must align with a newly introduced data floor price. This benchmark will be painful to data users as some telcos may have to increase their data tariff but it will give these telcos the opportunity of facing how they can improve their quality of service rather than focus on how much competition is selling data.
I disagree that the floor price(minimum allowable price) will be 1.5GB for 3k.
I think it will be between 1200-1500 for 1.5GB.
Does it make small sense now?

Alright ooo NCC's PRO , today is 29th november 2016, just 2days more and we will know if your jargons up there will make sense or remain as jargons

I understand the concept of a free market economy, i also under the concept of floor pricing (which you clearly don't). Then there's predatory pricing

When you understand all 3, lets talk.

The problem I have with textbook-model pipeliners like you is that you are obtuse about the existential parameters that could make market principles untenable or undesirable.

The soul of a free market economy is competition. Pricing. The history of the Nigerian telecommunications industry provide verifiable data that competitive and aggressive pricing has been the engine behind the overwhelming success of the sector in the last fifteen years.

Without competitive pricing, how long would mtn have continued selling SIMs for over 15k? Thus a militating factor on mobile phone penetration.

Without competitive pricing, how long would mtn have continued to maintain that per second billing is untenable? how about call rates? Data access rate? Heck, wasn't there a time there were two way charges for a call? etc

There is a reason why economics is a social science. Protecting niche competitors in a market where they have almost no footprint is the hallmark of a socialist or communist economy.

Here's a scenario of how predatory pricing affects the subscribers

1) The telco's come together to reduce data price so as to stop the growth of other companies smaller companies
2) Once the smaller companies are out of business, the telcos increase the data price and the subscriber doesn't have a choice.

if indeed it's to protect newer entrants, then those ones have to realize their undoing. We need to launch a campaign to boycott them, because we didn't send for them in the first place. There was no public outcry for flamboyant and expensive 4g data, all we always demanded for was good and cost effective internet since inception.
I am not surprised when a northerner is in charge of NCC. They never know the importance of data in the 21st century. Have you seen an Hausa man use a browsing phone? The ones that are privileged to have use it only to defend Allah related posts and buhari. They all don't deserve more than 10mb.

Sir you are right, the only modern "thing" you can see with majority of hausas are their old transistor radios. They want us all to go back to non browsing phones with radio so that we can listen to their prepared lies...

Then the smaller companies should make better services their stronghold and strength. then NCC should make 1gb data to N1000 as cap price. With that smaller companies can offer at that price with better network services than the bigger companies thereby leading to change in market share in data subscribers

This is a mischievous report. The increase was not a FG(Presidency directive), rather it came about as a result of complaints of the smaller companies and new entrants (Smile and Ntel).

How much is smile charging for Internet? Most people use same network for calls and data.

What would you say about smile and NTEL regarding phone calls?
