Can you point out were in the article an NCC director stated the bold part?

I am tired of repeating myself, all NCC did was set a floor price, Its your duty to understand the pros and cons of floor pricing and its relevance in this age and time.
pls go back and read d article....and just like u,am tired of having 2 ask u who gets d fall 4 all dese increments... or won't u be affected by the increased data prices...?
won't dese potential increments have an adverse effect on the economy....?

Not true.
Just like voice calls, NCC only introduced data floor price (The data floor price is the minimum allowable price per MB).
Before now, there was no floor price so any telco can decide to sell data at any price of their choice.

If it is allowed to continue that way, some of the telcos may fold-up which will lead to job loss and also drive investors away.
Just imagine if Vodacom decides to pull their tariff plans down just to kill smaller telc coys like Lebara.
Rather than wait until that happens(since Glo has been pushing them)NCC decided to introduce floor price. For voice calls, NCCs current floor price is 11k/sec.

The price will still be between the range of 1300-1500 for 1.5G

na wetin dey tire me 4 naija be dis. When ppl d trying 2 resist a bad policy like this increase, some idiots wey feel say him sabi speak English will just come and be talking BS. Will this increase not drive investors away, weren't there already job losses. How will a govt. Dats supposed 2 care abt d suffering masses wake up in d middle of a recession and say dat because Nigeria pays low data rates, it should be increased?!? Ur there trying 2 justify rubbish. U must be a slow poke. Take several seats behind.

If the people providing the services are not running at a loss or complaining, who is NCC or FG to complain and compare with data plans across the world?

Arrant nonsense angry
I wonder o. Honestly I'm just observing events and hoping this is some kind of joke. How on earth does a regulatory organisation like the NCC, that is meant to serve the best interests of Nigerians and keep the telecoms companies in check decide to do something like this. Can someone tell me the benefits for the consumers? What is the big picture that I'm not seeing? This country is turning into something else. As if it's not enough that poverty and suffering is on the increase, they have to make sure everybody is miserable.

The problem I have with textbook-model pipeliners like you is that you are obtuse about the existential parameters that could make market principles untenable or undesirable.

The soul of a free market economy is competition. Pricing. The history of the Nigerian telecommunications industry provide verifiable data that competitive and aggressive pricing has been the engine behind the overwhelming success of the sector in the last fifteen years.

Without competitive pricing, how long would mtn have continued selling SIMs for over 15k? Thus a militating factor on mobile phone penetration.

Without competitive pricing, how long would mtn have continued to maintain that per second billing is untenable? how about call rates? Data access rate? Heck, wasn't there a time there were two way charges for a call? etc

There is a reason why economics is a social science. Protecting niche competitors in a market where they have almost no footprint is the hallmark of a socialist or communist economy.

Competitive pricing should be fair to everyone.
What do you think would happen if MTN drop on net calls to N1 per minute?

Ofcuz, they try all this nonsense with us cuz they know we will do nothing about it.. We the people are the ones giving them power, nothing will change unless we take it back !
landinfo:
I haven't stopped hating anything FG but for pple to protest against this hike in data price for meis a NO NO.....

1. There was 90% increment in fuel price, Nigerian didn't protest cos they stupidly took it & smiled.

2. Foods became invisible in the market & Nigerians didn't protest.

3. Foods, commodities & products now sell @ 100% of previous price for instance the Sniper biggest size i always buy for 1,200-1,300 is now 2,500 or the retailer decides not to buy & even when he buyshe must make sure that u gave him the money to get it for u....Nigerians didn't protest or sign petition.

4. DSS, EFCC, ICPC, etc are now above the law & can beused to intimidate pple & instead of Nigerians to see the handwriting of lawlessness, they applauded the man & said he shld ride on.

5. Nigeria is in recssion but someone knowing that Nigerians are gullible said "recession was just a word"....Nigerians didn't protest cos they were smiling.

6. In life when I slap u the 1st time, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & so on & u don't fight back, the next time I would not slap u, I would kill, maim & bury u be that now.

7. Govt from FG to State say there is no money to pay salary but ask the voters in the concluded elections, pple got as few as 2,000naira to vote any of big 2 parties, in Edo, Ondo, Rivers, Bayelsa, etc APC Ondo outspent PDP from 4,000 to 6,000 plus cos PDP were giving 2,000-3000....& then u wonder why 9JA be like this

8. There is a BILL currently to increase VAT thru telecommunication by 9%, CBN gov'nor said NCC shld tax more after 3mins of calling & now NCC wey don grow wings don increase data tariff, it just means that this directive is just the beginning of testing the waters.

Look at this head like the one who his head was smashed against football goal post.

Is that the best he can do?

Look at MTN also. Even if everyone won't buy d idea, MTN would.

Then the smaller companies should make better services their stronghold and strength. then NCC should make 1gb data to N1000 as cap price. With that smaller companies can offer at that price with better network services than the bigger companies thereby leading to change in market share in data subscribers
As a small company, no matter how good your service is, if you cannot compete on price, you are doomed.

What happened to the price peg of 1gb data for N1000 that I said NCC should do...did you read the front page post about a blogger that started blogging last year, carving a niche for himself and beating others that are professional in the same niche??
