Women are not commodities to be sold.Base your business on goods and not sell women. Many men mistreat ibo women because of the high marriage price and treat them like objects to get their monies worth.Stop selling your women.
he wasn't forced to marry d lady. I'm not in support of extortion in d name of bride price but no man have d right to marry a lady and mistreat her simply because he paid heavily 4 bride price.

Yes na. Female children are investments for poor Igbos.

That's why you'll never see an Igbo man who has plenty children sitting in his shop. He'll always be tying wrapper at home like a trainee cripple and be chasing people away from his herd of daughters.

Oya clap for yasef.

Culture does evolve. No culture is static, and destructive elements of a culture must be removed, else the society will face a disadvantage, that will threaten its sustainability. Almost every culture in the world had cannibalism, but most did away with. So culture is not static.

Moreover, inflating dowry is not for culture purposes. Culture does not force anyone to set a particular price. Whether 10k or 10 million, dowry can be paid and culture preserved. So higher price does not mean higher regard for tradition.

Only the greed of some families explains the rise in dowry.
there is no rise in dowry, people just come online to rant when they knew ahead they weren't prepared to settle down.

How many Igbo men do you see complaining about paying whether Igbo woman o, Yoruba woman o, Hausa woman o, Fulani woman or Oyimbo woman dowry

In fact, Igbo guys are known for paying more than the usual bride price of their bride, why Because we so much value our bride and are happy to have her in our life.

Some tribe collect penny for bride price, but other expenditures will make you scream.

President Buhari collected 10naira or so as bride price for Zhara Buhari, but did u hear that the groom bought expensive jewelries, clothes, etc for the family which is how Fulani's does their own, why not go and tell them to reduce it

Yorubas collect penny for bride price, but the money they spend on the wedding party alone can build an estate. In fact, they spend a fortune on the wedding party which makes their own wedding higher in expense, yet Igbos don't scream and complain Yorubas change their party way.

Yorubas should learn to respect Igbos pls sad angry

you tribalists, turn every issue into a yoruba vs igbo comparison. I am not nigerian, and have never been to nigeria. I dont even live in africa, and most nigerian people I know are igbo and we are good friends. Stop the foolishness.

And yes, I know quite a good number of igbo guys who told me they wont settle because of dowry. What are you saying?

What do you call broke? So somebody should waste millions of naira, in a wasteful venture, in a bid to satisfy the elastic greed of some parents, just to prove to you he is not broke? What kind of mindset is that? Which country can develop itself safely with this approach to life?

A true rich person knows the value of money and invests it, instead of wasting it.

No wonder Igbo has the highest number of single ladies in their 40s such as never seen among other tribes. I never knew it’s an epidemic in Igbo land until I lived there for a couple of years.

In any Igbo church, when pastors say single ladies should come out for prayer, you would think the pastor is asking for madams or mummys to come out. That’s the shocking sight I have witnessed in Igbo land.

My brother until they change their views of seeing things and above their mentality is always tribalist and so adhere to culture and many of them call themselves born again christians

go and sit down, when u are ready to marry, we will know.

My eldest bro graded the road of his bride's community before the traditional wedding just to ensure the road is accessible to visitors and wellwishers coming for the wedding ceremony.

We Igbos don't see it as a big deal, reason we prepare well before settling down, so go and marry from the tribes that give their daughters away for free okay and let's have peace of mind pls cool

What is culture?

It's a behaviour initiated by a group of people that has become accepted as normal over the course of time.

Just like any human behavior some are destructive while some are progressive.

An example of a destructive culture is that of killing of twins in calabar that was stopped by Mary Slessor.

Any behaviour that converts a newly wed couple into debtors is destructive and should be kicked against.

It demeans the woman. Its a glorified form of slavery.

Placing a monetary value on her life diminishes her sense of worth more than enhancing it because she is indeed priceless.

As to wanting to be an Ibo man....with due respect, the pragmatism and richness of the Yoruba culture is perfect for me.

Thank you.
my issue hwre is not about her complaint, but how it was done

You, as a Yoruba man, if a daughter has an issue with her father, is Facebook the right medium to express herself? I expect ANY woman that feels her husband is being exploited in the name of marriage to speak up AT the marriage, there are many who have done it and nothing happened.

Why will she drag her family matter to Facebook, is it right?

You are more concerned about the bride price, I am not, because I know that even the greediest parents have caved in when their daughters put their foot down. These idiots crying on social media act like that is impossible.

That is what they will never tell you and you carry on with a false narrative because you are not in a better position to know to begin with

That is why I asked you to face your culture, because you do not understand that this bride price thing is dependent on not just the family, but the bride as well. If you tell your people that you will not allow your husband pay an exaggerated amount, NOTHING will happen. They cannot stop the marriage.

So, the bride should shut up, because she was instrumental to her husband being dried up. Haba! Thousands of Igbo women marry everyday, why do we not receive at least a hundred of such complaints if these things cannot be negotiated?

its not a big deal in Igbo land....just for the Xmas celebration alone, so many guys from my village graded their village roads, one even paved theirs to a quality higher than what your govt do.

I never said my bro was a billionaire, na, I am too old to brag here cos I gain nothing.

But be aware that doing such things is not a big deal to Igbo guys, we see it as nothing. Try and visit Igbo land during Xmas this year and see developmental projects by Igbo men in their respective communities; its a common practice in Igbo land so long as u have the cash. With 3 - 4million u can grade a 2km road in your village, with another 3 - 4 mills, u can provide borehole water + renovate your village market.

what should I have done? Clapped for a disrespectful daughter?

I was just vexed by how petty people areghese days. If your father unjustly pumped your brideprice, did you have to come to Facebook with it? Was her action sensible?

Tomorrow, when she has issues with her husband, is it not that same father she will run to? If you were her father, would you accept her back after this?

I slightly modified my comment because it was made in a moment of anger, but dragging your family on social media, is one of the worst things to ever do and it pains me terribly
