This shows Atiku understands Nigeria's problem more than many people do.People only steal government's money because they see it as belonging to nobody and even if you fight corruption for 100 years you can never end it because a black man is still a black man. When you privatise those institutions nobody will see any money to steal or can you steal from MTN,GTB and other privately owned companies and go scot free?Government's duty is regulation through tax and law enforcement and creating enabling environment for businesses to grow in form of free enterprise just like it happens in America

That was a task delegated to him by OBJ. Same way GEJ delegated the task of privatizing PHCN to Sambo. Both were figureheads.

-Lord

If you claim he was a figure head and it was a task given to him and we know what happened afterwards.
What do you think will occur when he becomes the head ?

I'm beginning to understand now why OBJ was not in good terms with him for so long and why he wrote in his book that Atiku's background has lots of secrecy.

Some companies are in a bad shape and may not do well after an acquisition. A good number of the privatised companies are doing well. How does the present state of NNPC profit you as an individual ? The present southern sun hotel use to be a government owned hotel but was privatised and is in a much better state. Oando and forte oil were also privatised government owned enterprises. NNPC of today is not working and not profitable . A working NNPC should be able to compete with aramco, Agip , Total , BP and many more . It’s up to you if you like things the way they are but I can assure you that Nigeria is lagging behind in so many areas and the earlier we do away with strategies that are not working the better . Nigeria is too complex as a country with enormous challenges far beyond the mental capabilities of Buhari and I’d wish that the best candidate wins irrespective of the candidate’s party

Believe me, if they will do this honestly, am 100% in support of the sell & also removal of subsidy plus even selling of those obsolete refinery to people that can refurbish it & make it work

Tax reduction on its own will not attract investment and put money in the pocket of the typical Nigerian. What is needed is increased megawatts, revenue generation via taxes and ease of doing business minus corruption. Nigeria has the market! Unfortunately for Atiku he can’t do anything about corruption.

Interesting indeed.
Please how did you measure the positive growth of the companies already privatized to get that conclusion?
Just because a man has pot belly, drives a rolls royce, lives in a 4 storey building means all is okay about him.

For the NSE listed ones their financial statements are available for all to see . No doubt some failed but NNPC is a loss making enterprise and I’m sure you know that state enterprises are hardly profitable in the Nigerian realm. I’m still not sure why NNPC was established but if it was setup as a national oil company as was done in Netherlands , Italy , France , Saudi Arabia ... then it has failed . The government of these countries have for long reduced their interests in their national oil companies . In addition I’ve held informal discussions with two ex CEO ‘s of NNPC independently years apart and they both told me NNPC is not working and filled with multiple issues along with every government ( since the military era ) interfering with its operations .

I really want Nigeria to work but it appears most Nigerians share uncommon visions and desires

To generate 200000mw of electricity, you will need good power generation stations in Nigeria, the size of mambilla Hydro power, which is about 3000mw, the largest dam in Nigeria so far. And you will need about 5 of them.

To construct each dam takes like 6years, that is if they are constructed simultaneously. Of course, the funds needs to be there.

This is 2019. Anyone who promises 200000mw of electricity by 2025 is not being honest.
20000mw by 2025 is possible! their are still 2 NIPP projects waiting for their turbines to be installed.Alaoji, afam, omatosho and most of our gas power plants-even the kanji-mostly operate at half their installed capacity.other projects like the aba ipp,oma power etc is being delayed (indefinetly) because of a lack of finance in the local economy (few if any Nigerian bank can actually fund such a project) and a lack of trust by multinationals like GE in the sector.Technology has progressed to such a level that, offshore wind farms and solar farms can be easily employed in few years.
The problem in Nigeria's power sector,is that its privatisation has been left redundant. The big hitters like shell,GE etc should be left to not only control the power plants, but to also build infrastructure for distributing generated power-making away with the fed controlled transcos and discos.Selling majority of the NNPC to say shell, total etc would actually help our economy .It would result in its being as effective as NLNG (only God knows what it would have been like if it was fed controlled).
For a government that touted "change" as their motto, they are doing nothing to change things in some important sectors.

After Nigeria tackle NNPC then move to NEPA, Police, Railways, Economy etc gradual restructuring is taken place. NNPC is puppet for government officials. Most oil countries are not run the way NNPC is. Private organization side by side with government as overall supervisor and collector will help our institutions. From the location i am typing now this is how the country operate. Even the railway here, Government share then open the business for shareholders/investing company/public to come in as a partner and after the business come to operation the government lease the day to day running of such business to 3rd party-a management firm while the government take home large revenue at the end of the day. If a particular firm is not leaving up to expectation government and shareholders will bring in another management company. This is how they run thing here even the Airports. In Nigeria we sell things to politicians and they end up messing the entire system. So partial bringing outsiders not politicians will reduce the secret of most of government Institutions. Running a country is a business.

Don't talk about the Chinese model. China does not have the bureaucratic, financial, and efficiency constraints we have.

Electricity generation is no longer a government-only affair. PDP governments saw the waste and inefficiency of using government money for projects and decided to liberalize the sector. His promise is not empty as it relies on private-sector led investment.

-Lord
Still my point. Atiku cannot be trusted(and in actual sense cannot) to effect these things you put in "simple terms". He's a corrupt capitalist, political prostitute and an opportunist. Nigerians have had years of empty paper promises from these same set of old, corrupt and senile politicians. Afterall, Atiku has been a member of the same cabal that have put us where we are today.

Kudos to you, you are in the know while most of the kiddies here are making noise that Atiku wants to sell it to himself.

I have been involved in O&G and NNPC is a massive drainpipe on our resources. They are a highly wasteful organisation that busy themselves with mainly irrelevant things and things that bring individuals chop money. No innovation there in over 30yrs. They should break it into 4 or more parts and auction it off to the highest bidders

They forget that if OBJ did not sell the GSM spectrums they wouldn't have had mobile phone to be typing crap with.

What is amazing is that most of them are Yorubas and they pass Tinubus house on Bourdillon and hail him as their saviour whereas he converted that mansion from lagos state property to his own without paying anything.

Zombieism is a viral disease.

Now, they are planning to sell our only means of survival (NNPC) to their cronies so as to improverish us more
