actually Wat he said is true, in Brazil race is not done genetically, they use skin tone, some one like Barack Obama will not b called black but pardo(mixed race) there a lot of white people with black skin whose ancestor's are mostly white That c dem self's as black, in a family some will b black skinned, white skinned and brown skinned, Brazil is not like USA where people usually marry from there race alone, there in Brazil everyone almost Hv some ancestors from oda race be it Indian, Asian, Europe and Africa, u can b white but genetically u r black, tomorrow u have children u will b surprised that one of dem is darker than odas, look at the picture of those Yoruba decents, some looks white, mixed and black, former Chelsea player Ramirez might b white after all.
Lol I know all this
Only few ppl on nairaland can argue with me on history
I've read about almost all country on earth
So I know what he was saying
He was trying to derail d thread
I'm the last person u should be telling all these

Very well. BBC Yoruba did a small piece on the Yoruba community in Brazil sometime last year (i'll put it below). Even Ooni of Ife was there last year. If you have time, I strongly recommend you read a book called A History Of The Yoruba People by Prof. Akintoye. Among many other things, the Yoruba diaspora in Brazil is covered in detail in this book.

Very interesting, it's on my bucket list to visit the Yoruba community in Brazil, I would feel very accomplished if I do so in my life.

Thanks for sharing this video. There was a day, I watched one documentary called; "My Cuba" one of the episodes focused on the Cubans of African descent. Their Yoruba is a bit similar to the standard Yoruba, but there are variations in which it is spoken/written just like any other languages. One needs to listen attentively when they speak.
Of course, listening attentively AND by context. Even in Nigeria, there are so many Yoruba dialects that are almost impossible to comprehend

Ife is Yoruba city. The head of your obas is being buried in ife. Fact
good for you people.

Yoruba didn't originate from Benin like the Igbo poster said, Yoruba has their own ancestry. So don't ever insult Benin.

Backward Yoruba, oba heads kill you there

oga keep quite , oranmiya is the son of izoduwa who you guys call oduduwa, he was a banish prince who ran to ile-ife , get your face right , the first rulers of benin are the ogiso
Oduduwa is a Yoruba Oba..he wasn't banished from anywhere. A criminal cannot become an Oba in ife.

Oduduwa was 1000 years before ORANMIYAN was born.

Edo people lied to you.

Do u know that the now known lagos state was taken out of remo land and ijebu land in ogun state
Places like sagamu had their land carved into Ogun state and places like ikorodu are part of ijebu land
Most of Lagos now were taken out of ogun state and Lagos is d smallest state in Nigeria
There are many kings in Lagos who don't make noise like oba of Lagos, saying that because he is called oba of Lagos then he controls all of Lagos is a lie
The Lagos oba of Lagos control is very small
Ask anybody
Do u know of oba of elegushi
Oba of ikorodu and so on
Awori ppl are the owner of most of Lagos
The area in Lagos that was under Benin ppl was very small
Do u know there is a place called abule egba in Lagos?
Abule means village in Yoruba language, egba ppl are mostly in Abeokuta in Ogun state, but abule egba was their land before
Many places in the now known Lagos had no influence from Benin
The place oba of Lagos has domain over in Lagos is very small
It is because of d name Lagos, everybody thinks he control everywhere in Lagos
Saying Lagos is Bini land is dumb and stupid
Awori and egba and ijebu ppl land in Lagos alone is more than 70% of Lagos
Are they Benin ppl?

The actual title is even Eleko of Eko, and Eko is no more than Lagos Island. It was cleverly twisted to 'Oba' of Lagos for political (expansionist) reasons.

That idīot talking about Benin did not take note of the significant fact that the current Eleko was so sloppy with facts that he quoted his paternal grandmother, by birth a Bini woman married into the Eleko royal family and therefore not in any way qualified to make pronouncements on their history.

I think it was during the slave-trade migration, not only Brazil but other countries too. Then lots of Yorubas indegene of other africa countries like Togo, Benin republic and co.

But the most wide spread Nigerian tribe are the Hausa/fulanis. I think there usual illiteracy, religious fanaticism and the rest is why no one is talking about them.

Ghana been making efforts to drive out the ga fulani tribe out of Ghana since.

Nope. Continental breakaway caused it. We were all neighbours before the sea parted us and the land drifted apart. Think of your next village breaking away and drifting apart.

They speak a version of Yoruba!

They don't 'speak' a version of Yoruba, they speak Spanish. Lucumi is a liturgical language. Nobody uses it for everyday interaction, it's just like an ancient Roman citizen (a native Latin speaker) being fascinated by the corrupted accent & enunciation of a Nigerian Roman Catholic priest conducting mass in Latin.

ORANMIYAN was a warrior and Benin was one of his conquered territory. That was the reason he renamed the city to ILE - IBINU..when the Edo people disrespected him.

He made the official language of the palace Yoruba language but now abolished in 1947.

Oduduwa did not give birth to ORANMIYAN. ORANMIYAN was the great and great grandsons of Oduduwa.

I understand why Yoruba of today think that way, it's because of Europeans that conquered Nigeria. They hated Benin and help Yoruba, Igbo,Hausa to where they are today. They keep changing history.

Yoruba's will say ekiti are Yoruba even though they hardly understand the language but are the first to refuse urhobo, isoko, degema etc as Benin even though they speak the same Branch of languages and have common ancestry.

The divide and rule is still going on but Benin's will surpassed it, we always do

you are a big fool.

So it's no longer Benin begged Yoruba for a king? The tune has change to Yoruba conquering Benin?

Oduduwa (Yoruba so called king) was a banished Benin Prince, when Benin was in chaos, the priests sent for oduduwa to be called upon, since he was too old he sent his son(omariyan)to rule.

Oramiyan is Yoruba and Benin didn't like that, they didn't even let him into the kingdom because he couldn't even speak Benin.

He later married a Benin woman and name their son eweka. His son learn Benin and became and obs.

Till today the ceremony of how oramiyan was received is still Been practice
I'm old enough to be your father. If you call me a big fool, that means you have once regard your father has d same. And you have been regarding your father a big fool.
