I understand why Yoruba of today think that way, it's because of Europeans that conquered Nigeria. They hated Benin and help Yoruba, Igbo,Hausa to where they are today. They keep changing history.

Yoruba's will say ekiti are Yoruba even though they hardly understand the language but are the first to refuse urhobo, isoko, degema etc as Benin even though they speak the same Branch of languages and have common ancestry.

The divide and rule is still going on but Benin's will surpassed it, we always do
I'm ekiti and I noticed d Bini influence in my state
Many Yoruba towns up to kwara had Bini influence, including bishop oyedepo town omu aran,I've seen d pic of first king of omu aran dressing like oba of Benin in 1945
I've seen d influences of Bini in ekiti and ondo states clearly
But as time went on u have to understand people change with religion and environment as factor
Bini empire was great no doubt, but everything Has changed
I'm ekiti but I don't hear or speak ekiti dialect
Most Yorubas now only speak d popular central Yoruba we all speak, even I've seen Yorubas of kogi west complaining of losing their dialects to central Yoruba
That's just how it is
For now the only thing d bini ppl have is their past, no other tribe claim them because they want to b part of big 3 tribes in Nigeria, it is also happening to northern minority with d Hausa stuff
I'm sorry but that's just d fact

Read your history the first Oba of Benin is Oranmiyan and he even renamed Benin to the present name.

Ogisos dynasty is dead and dead forever. Our Obaship reign supreme in Benin.
So you haven't shunned tribal bigotry this boy?

Do u know that the now known lagos state was taken out of remo land and ijebu land in ogun state
Places like sagamu had their land carved into Ogun state and places like ikorodu are part of ijebu land
Most of Lagos now were taken out of ogun state and Lagos is d smallest state in Nigeria
There are many kings in Lagos who don't make noise like oba of Lagos, saying that because he is called oba of Lagos then he controls all of Lagos is a lie
The Lagos oba of Lagos control is very small
Ask anybody
Do u know of oba of elegushi
Oba of ikorodu and so on
Awori ppl are the owner of most of Lagos
The area in Lagos that was under Benin ppl was very small
Do u know there is a place called abule egba in Lagos?
Abule means village in Yoruba language, egba ppl are mostly in Abeokuta in Ogun state, but abule egba was their land before
Many places in the now known Lagos had no influence from Benin
The place oba of Lagos has domain over in Lagos is very small
It is because of d name Lagos, everybody thinks he control everywhere in Lagos
Saying Lagos is Bini land is dumb and stupid
Awori and egba and ijebu ppl land in Lagos alone is more than 70% of Lagos
Are they Benin ppl?

Even the small Iga Idugaran the Oba controls, it's Awori language they speak there, not to mention the Eyo Festival songs and incantations, all are done in Awori dialect.

same way Yoruba or Igbo might become a minority in the future.

The Benin's are doing everything to bring those distant cousins under one umbrella.

It will take time but it will happen

They don't 'speak' a version of Yoruba, they speak Spanish. Lucumi is a liturgical language. Nobody uses it for everyday interaction, it's just like an ancient Roman citizen (a native Latin speaker) being fascinated by the corrupted accent & enunciation of a Nigerian Roman Catholic priest conducting mass in Latin.
It doesn't matter what they use the language for or if the language is popular. If you are Yoruba you will see that what you hear as Lucumi is Yoruba.

ORANMIYAN was a warrior and Benin was one of his conquered territory. That was the reason he renamed the city to ILE - IBINU..when the Edo people disrespected him.

He made the official language of the palace Yoruba language but now abolished in 1947.

Oduduwa did not give birth to ORANMIYAN. ORANMIYAN was the great and great grandsons of Oduduwa.
Bros! Permit me to say this that we do not have history and proper documentation at the time of this events. We the Yoruba and the Benin descendants have heard so many stories from the scholars and historians and don't know the exact one to believe.I beg let's just use our discretion, who u meet na ur brother and sister

A friend of mine from Delta State was speaking a particular Yoruba dialect that shares similarity with Ilaje; he asked me to guess the language and I said Itshekiri. He said no it's Lukumi. I was speechless because I always thought Itshekiri is the language similar to Yoruba in Delta State.

Their is even Abule Osun, Abule Ado. And their's nothing like Oba of Lagos he's nothing more than the Baale of Idumota which is his domain even the alaafin of Oyo only controls Oyo town although he his still revered by all other monarchs in Oyo state. The Benin people should stop this nonsense.

I think it was during the slave-trade migration, not only Brazil but other countries too. Then lots of Yorubas indegene of other africa countries like Togo, Benin republic and co.

But the most wide spread Nigerian tribe are the Hausa/fulanis. I think there usual illiteracy, religious fanaticism and the rest is why no one is talking about them.

Ghana been making efforts to drive out the ga fulani tribe out of Ghana since.

The Fulanis have the widest spread but they originally are not from present day Nigeria. They conquered the territories they presently occupy. The Hausas are different from the Fulanis
