Reading the Bible in the morning is the best way to start your day, I have read it cover to cover a few times, not keeping count,just enjoying the process.
Any body out there interested in going through the Bible to test its relevance in to days world ?.
Genesis,
          Explained creation in the most sensible way;
                                              -Light the source of energy was first created to power everything Gen 1v3. It powers the food chain
                                              -Air; Oxygen to make Earth habitable Separation of the firmament Gen 1v 7; outside the heaven, there is no oxygen to support life.
                                              -Land; for life to grow and live on Gen1 v 10
                                              -Plant; primary source of food in the food chain Gen 1v 11
                                              -Separation of the light into Sunlight (for photosynthesis) and Moon and stars (Evaporation, rest etc) at night Gen 1v 16
                                              -Animals created Gen 1 v 20-25 the next in the food chain, fishes, herbivores, carnivores.
                                              -Man created Gen 1 v 26. the top of the food chain, created last.
It is interesting to note this record in the bible existed thousands of years before science "discovered " the food chain.
    ONLY THE FOOLISH SAYS THERE IS NO GOD. THE BIBLE HAS A LOT OF INFORMATION FOR OUR WORLD WE ONLY NEED TO SEARCH IT OUT, if you have more please post.

I'm not an atheist, just non-religious.
You will be shocked that there can be so many contradictions in single book. Its ridiculous; from contradictions in the sequence of creation to contradictions about the events at Jesus resurrection (number of angels, where and when things happened) etc.
It is a lot like the Nigeria we are determined to rebuild, a stark lie. If you took it to court as evidence, you will be severely compromising your case
Beaf, i quite agree that one can be confused by just reading the Bible and seeing what is going around us today. The Bible does not contradict itself but just that we may not have understood it correctly. The bible was written to humans as a lesson book to guide us in all our daily affairs with each other and our creator. it is not a science book or a history book per se but a letter written by the almighty through ordinary men to all so we can know him bettter and live happily with each other. just imagine if all us follow the bible counsel and advises , what a beautiful and lovely place this our world would be !
i may not be able to exhaust here all that need to be discussed but would like to discuss further with you privately. kindly send me your email or phone no to :sparklemart@yahoo.com

golamike:

First and foremost, i'd like to sympathise with you on your displayed level of mediocrity. Secondly, i'd like to know which version of the bible u read and the specific books and chapters that spoke about the bolded! I have studied the old testament many times and i've never come across any portion that speaks about sacrificing a human being as a burnt offering.

You have never read the bible for yourself all you do is read it with a lens and try to filter what you do not agree with. . .Here is just one verse that talks about burning unbelievers and sacrificing them as burnt offering unto Yahweh the God of the Jews. . . . .

"Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods.  In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully.  If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.  Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. [size=18pt] Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God[/size].  That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt.  Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction.  Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you.  He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors.  "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him."  (Deuteronomy 13:13-19)

There are other stories about the God of the bible accepting human sacrifice I am more than willing to show if you want me to. . . . .

Animals like lambs, cows, bulls etc were used for sacrifices NOT human no matter the magnitude of sin committed. Agreed, the old testament contains some laws or punishments for certain offences which are considered violent or out-of-place. But, have u ever asked urself this simple question: Why did Jesus come to die for the world? According to the bible, the simple answer is to redeem mankind! The new Testament speaks about a new life in Christ Jesus. We do not live by the law (old testament) any longer but by grace Roman Ch 8. Please do study Ephesians 2:12-19.

You do not live by the grace any more because the people that created the God of the bible saw it necessary and expedient to change the nature of the OT God and bring in a new theology that will be acceptable to a morally evolving world at that time. . . . .

Lastly, that you do not believe in a thing does not make it false. The reason why some people CAN NEVER understand the bible is because they READ instead of STUDYING it. Moreover, the bible is not a story book that you give physical interpretations to, but a divine book and as such needs a divine interpretation and understanding. Remember the case of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch in the book of Acts 8:26-39. The man was reading a portion of the bible but couldn't pick a thing until God sent His servant to interpret it to him. It is pathetic that many people are not better-off than this eunuch!

What you have stated above is FALSE, there is NOTHING like divine interpretation because if there is then there wouldn't be over 33,000 different sects in Christianity. . . .Very sincere Christians that believe in the divine interpretation myth argue and disagree over many things the bible say, if there is anything like divine revelation then there will be one universal Christian doctrine and sincere Christians will all interpret the bible the same way, but that is not the case and that shows that the divine interpretation is a false assertion, people just use that as an excuse to explain absurdity away. . . . By the way if people have to continually reinterpret the book, why not just write a new book?

[b]I've studied different portions of the bible and i've never found a conflicting statement or principle. [/b]THE BIBLE IS THE MOST COMPLETE BOOK EVER WRITTEN. Take it or leave it! better the former!!

Ok lets start with this one, how do you explain this. . . .

1 John 4:8 says that God is Love. . . .

1 Corinthians 13:4 says Love is not jealous. . .

Exodus 20:5 says God is jealous. . . . .

DARA1234:

Reading the Bible in the morning is the best way to start your day, I have read it cover to cover a few times, not keeping count,just enjoying the process.

Nice, you can keep reading the bible from cover to cover everyday but you can't keep lying about the bible here. . . .

Genesis,
          Explained creation in the most sensible way;
                                              -Light the source of energy was first created to power everything Gen 1v3. It powers the food chain

This is a False statement because if you read the bible it says the heavens and the earth were created first even before light was created. . . . .By the way the sun that powers everything in our solar system was not created until the 4th day of creation. . . . .According to the myth of creation of the bible the earth and plants were existing before the sun and stars were created. . . .It does not even talk about the creation of the planets and other stuffs in our solar system. . . .

-Air; Oxygen to make Earth habitable Separation of the firmament Gen 1v 7; outside the heaven, there is no oxygen to support life.

If only you know what the firmament means to the ancient Jews you wont be here spweing this nonsense you will hide your head in shame, for believing their myths. . .

No things like what you have described above can be found in the bible, you are simply lying, you just went and copied the work of another apologist that doesn't even know what the bible says. . . . .The bible does not talk about separation of light into sunlight, moon and stars, pls show me where it talks about separation of light into sunlight, moon and stars. . . .The bible talks about the creation of these entities on the 4th day of creation. . .

The bible does not talk about any food chain, it does not give the sequence of how animals are created according to the food chain, stop lying. . .

ONLY THE FOOLISH SAYS THERE IS NO GOD. THE BIBLE HAS A LOT OF INFORMATION FOR OUR WORLD WE ONLY NEED TO SEARCH IT OUT, if you have more please post.

It is only a FOOL that will accept the words of bronze age men that says the earth and plants were in existence before the sun and stars as the word of the creator/creators of the universe assuming the universe has any creator/creators. . . .

Dear Readers,

I read the bible from cover to cover six times in six years - 2005, 2006,2007, 2008, 2009, 2010. It has developed my knowledge of Christianity as an individual. It was like a holy pilgrimmage that gave me divine enlightenment, and I was able to understand the ideology of Christ and how he wants us to live so as to glorify Him. My character was strengthened. I have found favour before more people than before. I have also experienced accelerated advancement in my life, and I have resolved to live for Jesus Christ, serve him all my life, and die as a Christian full of desire for GOD. I now live and work in U.K. where a lot of indigenes there do not believe in GOD, like we do in Africa, but my faith has been solidified by six years of reading the Word of GOD.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
   refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
   making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right,
   giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant,
   giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure,
   enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm,
   and all of them are righteous.

They are more precious than gold,
   than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
   than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned;
   in keeping them there is great reward.

Psalm 19:7-11

I believe that it is impossible for anyone who reads the Holy Bible faithfully and expectantly from cover to cover more than once, not to be blessed by GOD!
Jesus bless you all!

Not yet from cover to cover, but the parts I have read and (still reading) is life transforming.Sometimes,I wonder what I have been doing all along not paying attention to this 'life manual' inspired by my heavenly father. dear friends, the Bible gives life,comfort,love,strength and direction.
I thank God for my eloquent,spirit filled pastors,great spiritual mentors but none compares to having a sizzling romance with my Bible. Its exciting to hear from God myself.yaay!!!

How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word(Ps 119:9)MSG.

For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart(Hebrews 4:12)KJV.

@MAZAJE,
LET US HAVE SOME INTELLIGENT DISCUSSION, AS MUCH AS I HATE TO COPY AND PASTE, FOR CLEARITY, I HAVE COPIED THE FIRST 26 VERSES OF GENESIS CHAPTER 1EXACTLY AS IT IS AND I HAVE MADE EXPLANATION IN BOLD, I HAVE ALSO PUT IN BOLD AREAS OF NOTE.ANY RATIONAL, OPEN MINDED INTELLECT WILL UNDERSTAND IT, I HAVE ALSO INCLUDED THE FOOD CHAIN THAT CAME INTO EXISTENCE AFTER OVER 2000YEARS AFTER THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN, WHERE NECCESSARY, I HAVE REFERENCED MY WORK. HAPPY READING;
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.( THIS IS THE SUMMARY OF THE CHAPTER; WHAT GOD DID, IF YOU HAVE EVER WRITTEN A PUBLISHED PAPER, YOU SHOULD KNOW YOU START WITH AN INTRODUCTION,YOU SUMMARISE WHAT THE WHOLE PAPER IS ALL ABOUT)
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. DESCRIPTION OF WHAT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, DARK, NO LIGHT, NO FORM, VOID.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. FIRST CREATION, LIGHT
4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.THE FIRST MENTION OF DAY AND NIGHT AFTER LIGHT WAS CREATED AND A DIVISION OF DAY AND NIGHT
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

DEFINITION OF FIRMAMENT;
     ‘Firmament is the vault or expanse of the sky.[1] The word is first recorded in the 13th century and is anglicized from Latin firmamentum’(MERRIAM WEBSTER DICTIONARY) According to Genesis, God created firmament ex nihilo and used it to make Heaven,  The Latin phrase ex nihilo means "out of nothing". It often appears in conjunction with the concept of creation, as in creatio ex nihilo, meaning "creation out of nothing" — chiefly in philosophical or theological contexts, but also occurs in other fields
.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry [land] appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry [land] Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas: and God saw that [it was] good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, [and] the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed [is] in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, [and] herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed [was] in itself, after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:A DIVISION OF THE LIGHT FOR THE SPECIFIED FUNCTION
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: [he made] the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that [it was] good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

   BELOW IS A SEQUENCE OF CREATION OF ANIMALS THEN MAN
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
DOES THIS RING A BELL OF WHAT SOME ‘’WISE’’ PEOPLE TELL IS THE ORDER/EVOLUTION OF LIFE; MICROBES, AMPHIBIANS, REPTILES, BIRDS,MAMMALS,MAN; SEE BELOW;
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
FINALLY
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

The bible is the single greatest compilation in history. It has been responsible, directly or remotely for many of the greatest events in history. If you read the bible and became an atheist, you certainly read it with an already fixed opinion. God will never force a man to change his mind. Apart from being a spiritual, book, the bible is the greatest political, economical, social and motivational/inspiraqtional book in history. Do you know a lot of economic and political principles where taken from the bible. The bible is the most corrolated book there is, with events thousands of years away accurately foretold. The bible predicted such things as the wireless communication, airplanes, cars and many more. even predited the Internet and global television. It is simply amazing. The bible teaches medical principles that doctors have continue to discover till date, thousands of years back. The bible is such a masterpiece and to consider that it was written by various authors thousands of years apart simply show there is something divine about it
Re: How Many Here Have Read The Bible From Cover To Cover. by edicolove: 7:38pm On May 25, 2011
Check this out:

the book of Nahum chapter 2:

1 He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

2 For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

3 The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.

4[b] The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings. [/b]

Amazing isnt it? The prophet refered to vehicles as chariots. But from the description, you can see he was talking about vehicles. they justle against one another ( traffic, accidents ). They seem like torches ( head lamps). They run like lightnings. Great speed compared to the speed of chariots in those days. Notice he said it will happen in the day of his preparation refering to the endtimes

It's amazing how some people berate one religion over another when the end result is

supposed to be the same. Be it as Christians, Lutherans, Islams, etc. when it's all said and done,

aren't we all trying to get to Heaven?!

HAPPY READING;

All I saw you do is talk about things that to be found no where inside the bible. . . . .

What evidence do you have to show that the earth and the heavens(assuming the heavens means the universe) were created at the same time in the beginning? Scientific evidence has shown that the earth came into existence long after many stars and galaxies were in existence. . .The evidence is all there, go do a little study on cosmology. .By the way who was the very first human being to receive this information?

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. DESCRIPTION OF WHAT WAS IN THE BEGINNING, DARK, NO LIGHT, NO FORM, VOID.

Water on earth before the sun and stars were created, eh? You must be kidding me if you believe in this nonsensical myth that has no basis in reality. . .

We know today that a "day" is the period of time when the part of the planet the observer is on is turned towards the sun, and "night" is the period when it is turned away from the sun, correct?

The very definition of the words "day" and "night" are absolutely dependent on the relationship of the earth to the sun. . . .  Without that relationship, these words cease to have any meaning. Take away the earth or the sun, and there can, by definition, be no "day" or "night."

Yet the Bible claims that:
God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

How? We know that the light and darkness are not really "separated," what we call "night" is simply the earth's shadow. Yet somehow we have "day" and "night" for three full days before there is any sun!. . . . . What's more, God went on to cover the earth with growing plants the day before he bothered to create the sun!,  . . . Plants growing with no sun, day and night with no sun. What was holding the earth and other planets in orbit since the earth was created before the sun according to the genesis creation myth?

In fact, Genesis tells us that the earth was created first, and the sun, moon, and stars were not created until the 4th day of creation,  . .  This is clearly nonsense. . . . Aside from the scientific evidence to the contrary, we know without even bothering to think that a "day" without the sun is a logical impossibility.

Clearly, the bible cannot be trusted as a factual source of any information regarding cosmology.

DARA1234:

DEFINITION OF FIRMAMENT;
It often appears in conjunction with the concept of creation, as in creatio ex nihilo, meaning "creation out of nothing" — chiefly in philosophical or theological contexts, but also occurs in other fields
.

From the same wikipedia where you got your above definition of firmament it also says that "The word "firmament" is meant to correspond with the word raqia, or raqiya` ( רקיע), as used in Biblical Hebrew.
Firmamentum was used in the Vulgate, a 4th century Latin translation of the Christian bible. This term was consistent with the previous (circa 200 BC) Septuagint translation of the Old Testament which used the Greek stereoma, meaning solid structure, and with the notion of solidity advanced explicitly by other biblical passages.[3]

Job 37:18
With Him, have you spread out the skies(raqiya),
Strong as a cast metal mirror?

To the ancient Jews the firmament was a solid structure meant to divide the waters above from the waters below. . recent english translation have change the word raqiya to mean expanse. . . . .

From the same wikipedia entry on firmament it says: "The Jewish Encyclopaedia describes the firmament as follows:
The Hebrews regarded the earth as a plain or a hill figured like a hemisphere, swimming on water. Over this is arched the solid vault of heaven. To this vault are fastened the lights, the stars. So slight is this elevation that birds may rise to it and fly along its expanse.[15] "

The passage you have up there very clearly states that the moon, the sun and the stars were all created on the same day of creation which is the 4th day. . . . .How do you squre this nonsense with the current scientific knowledge and evidence we have?
