Here, Jehovah tells Moses that in the past, he appeared in the name of God Almighty while his own name was unknown. Or let's put it in a way you can understand. He was basically saying I appeared in my surname but my name was unknown to them.
Now to verse 2
And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord:
Jehovah says I am the Lord, does that mean he does not have a father? No.

easy to understand. The person speaking was God who is the Lord. Now the question is, was it Jehovah or the Almighty God?

Verse 3
3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.
The person speaking appeared unto Abraham and Isaac using some other person's name not his name. He appeared using the name of God Almighty.
Then he went ahead to tell Moses his own name. His name is Jehovah. Hence Jehovah is the Lord, and God mentioned in the old testament, not the Almighty God.
