Most of the pictures were taken in America, not Nigeria. Maybe it's because they've LIVED in Lagos and other SW'ern states.

Ezeagu, nwanne odikwa egwu !! Some guy here even said Igbos are the "MOST UNIMAGINATIVE" group in Nigeria !! Can you imagine somebody saying such about people who invented their own days of the week, invented 13 lunar months of the year and named them(just like the romans have jan to dec),invented their own writing pattern!! If such people are not imaginative I wonder whats else

Maybe if we develop a word for jeans in Igbo, then Igbo children can later claim their ancestors invented jeans. grin

Every culture has it's own form of head ties. No one culture invented the head-tie. That's like asking who invented the boat.

Sorry, I think the hat the groom on the second pix is wearing is the only yoriba influence there.

Not talking about the invention of the head tie.
I'm more concern about the modern gele, the colorful full headtie.
It must have started somewhere.

Telling me where the textile was first used in Nigeria does not explain the modern style we have nowadays.

Gele = Nigerian headtie for now. If they call it sth diff in your language, ignore it and think Gele for now.

And are the designs on the gele Yoruba designs?
