Dont let the thing pain you too much. I've given credits to the Binis for influecing some aspect of the Yoruba culture. Now it's the yoruba's turn. GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE You shamelessly want to deny the yoruba influence by going on and on about agbada and Islam. What about the modern buba/sokoto/ cap? No one can deny our influence, globally. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by OneNaira6: 1:17pm On Nov 21, 2011 |

Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by Nobody: 1:22pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Uyi Iredia: Egunsi is eaten across West africa. it's not a nigerian thing, so there's no influence there. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by lagcity(m): 1:23pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
The Berbers created the Boubou. It has been modified so much by the Yorubas and now called Agbada. The modification is quite significant that If a Berber, Arab, or Moor wears the Yoruba Agbada, he/she will attract much attention in Arab, Berber, and Moor Country. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by Nobody: 1:24pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Uyi Iredia: go through the thread, I posted plenty (about 5). The women are reluctant about their attire though. TBH, I think the Igbo ladies should keep their attire, it looks good on them. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by OneNaira6: 1:25pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Ileke-IdI: Evidence full for here. From page 1-page 3. Still waiting on the Yoruba learned Islam before Hausa and Fulani, Still waiting on the Igbo deny Bini influence, still waiting on this modern spin yoruba added to agbada. I'm waiting and i'm waiting? |

Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by UyiIredia(m): 1:31pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Ileke-IdI: Like the Yorubas there are many tribes that were hugely influenced by the Edos. Consider the Ga tribe from Togo (they go as far as Ghana). I suppose that's how the recipe spread. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by OneNaira6: 1:31pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Ileke-IdI: You just called me G@y. How much more personal can one get? Apologize and i'll apologize |

Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by Nobody: 1:34pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Uyi Iredia: Nobody is arguing the Bini influence. Even a part of Ekiti is influenced. some say our dialect is a combination of several factors which may include bini. Look at Ondo, has to be the most retained Bini influence. But the recipe was not spread like that, sorry. |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by UyiIredia(m): 1:36pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
@ Ileke-Idi >>> You seem to imply that the acculturation is one-sided. I do not agree. one naira has pointed out rightly that the agbadas originated from the Berbers. of course, the Yorubas must have made their own version. I have also pointed out that some non-indigenous recipes are used by the Yorubas. The point is acculturation works both ways. Ileke-IdI: then how did it spread ? |
Re: Yoruba, Igbo And Acculturation (or Multiculture) by Nobody: 1:39pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
Uyi Iredia: Accuturation is not one sided. What (cultural attire) is being spread is the subject. I'm also not on colonial perion acculturation. Modern time acculturation is the main focus. Abi you sef wan bring Islam and Arab into this? Do both of us a favour by finding out how the soup spread, plz lol. And the other soups you mentioned are not eaten in the SW, so no influence there. Create another thread for soups. |
